Overton Grange Hotel

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago primarily for somewhere nice to stay for the night, and the price of dinner and breakfast is included in the night’s stay. It’s also a little way from Ludlow, so means you can sample some of the wine, without having to walk back from somewhere else!
I’ve eaten in a lot of restaurants around the country in the last couple of years, including Michelin starred restaurants, and sometimes not been overly impressed. This place certainly did impress me, starting with the selection of pre-​starters, tiny appetizers, which included quail’s egg with tiny pieces of shallot. I could go on and easily detail each course, but all were excellent. A highlight would perhaps be the pre-​desert (!) of star-​anise crème brûlée, which was heavenly and far better than I’ve had in France.
All in all, when including the lovely petit-​fours that came with the coffee, I had 7-​courses, all of which were excellent! Service too was attentive and unfussy. I had the feeling, that I’m sure readers have had, of that warm feeling they get inside when you know you’ve discovered somewhere really good — I had this here. Thoroughly recommended.
