The Hollybush

Honestly, I only go here when the Last Post is closed and I’m usually drunk.
It’s unnerving going in after being groped by the rather masculine bouncers outside and entering a pub full of everyone from school then seeing Mr Savage at the bar giving you the casual nod.
I always flee to the toilet after that and cry to myself in a locked cubicle. Except that everyone who walks past can look in without being on their toes. WHY ARE THE DOORS SO LOW?! Can I cry in peace?

It’s not a bad pub. The layout is pretty good Although I’ve never actually eaten here, the food I’ve seen being served to other guests looks decent enough.
The staff, however, need to have a bit of a kick up the backside. They always look like they’d rather be somewhere else, there is always empty glasses left on tables. I’ve sat in for over an hour and the tables around me weren’t cleared once.
The back patio area is, in my opinion, the best in the area. It’s not open on weekend nights though as it backs out on to a residential area.
For a McMullen, I am very surprised at the quality (or lack thereof) of their real ale. Twice I’ve had a pint of AK in there and been very disappointed both times.

I really like the Hollybush. Good atmosphere, usually lively and some nice beers also. Doesn’t get five because the speakers don’t disappate well, so if you’re sat near one, it can be difficult to hear your friends. Not a disaster by any stretch of the imagination, but 5-​stars is well, 5-​stars and means perfect.
Handily located in Loughton, and the staff have always been friendly. Decent sized outdoor area too.

Great friendly pub, always full of people and are so friendly bar staff are polite and welcoming. Great athmosphere drinks are a good price too, they have tellys for sports etc on show too — the music is not too loud but is just the right volume.
There is plenty of room and it is kept clean at all times. There is a nice size garden for the smokers, during the day it is alot calmer and a nice place to go to chill out, in the evening its a very popular place for people to go and start the night off.
Would higlhy recommend a visit!
