We went to Yum Yum by chance for lunch on a Saturday. Service was a bit slow but very courteous. We had vegetable tempura and pumpkin sweet corn cakes as appetizers. The corn cakes were quite good while the tempura was just average. For mains we had beef kang penang and pad bai gra prao. Both were very good; as good as we’ve had outside Thailand. In contrast to previous reviews we thought the décor quite nice with an authentic thai beachfront restaurant feel.

I have been to YumYum in Stoke Newington and I have a very positive view of the place, so imagine my delight when I heard that Yum Yum was coming to my neighbourhood, Walthamstow! My husband booked the table as soon as we heard the opening date and we excitedly looked forward to our visit which was yesterday. When we got there, I was quite disappointed with the interior. There was not much of an atmosphere and the furniture was pretty basic with the layout of the tables not being well thought out. I felt like I was in a canteen. There was chair used to block access to where the fish tank was because I believe the work was still going on, but it did not look professional. All this is understandable as its all still new, but I was expecting a bit more for such a pricey restaurant. My main gripe about this place was the food. I must say the food was very bland. I am a lover of Thai food, however, this was the worst Thai food I have ever tasted. There was hardly any flavours to what we ordered and the starters(dim sum and prawn spring rolls) where quite tiny and hard(just like the ones you get in a supermarket and throw in the oven), and for the price we paid I was hugely disappointed. The mains were not any better and made me doubt they had a qualified Thai chef in the kitchen. We didn’t even bother ordering desserts as we were so disappointed and didn’t want to further ruin our taste buds. Now this all might be because they are relatively new and it will take time to get things right, but for now, I dont think I will step in there in the near future.

Yum Yum have a branch in Stoke Newington and have recently open this branch in Walthamstow. I called to make a reservation and inquired if they were having a soft launch, I was told yes — a soft launch entails 50 off food for a determined period and is used by business whilst they iron out any creases. So I arrived and asked to confirm what the soft launch entailed, I was told there is no soft launch. I said that I had called and was told this whilst making a book, all I received was a no. The food was lovely but the service was appealing. We waited agenes to be served, and was not offered any water evenythou there was a person who appeared to spend the whole evening walking around with a bottle of water. We waited anyway for the bill. We asked if we could have a takeaway and was told no but was offered the service by another server, this was a mistake as we then had to wait even longer. I noticed a couple walk out not sure why. We didn’t pay service charge. Yum Yum is not cheap and I expected better service at those prices hence the low stars
