Bought a small part for my DSLR which had a minor defect, the shop refused to honour my consumer rights for an exchange, said they sweared by quality of the manufacturer, and blamed me for causing the fault myself instead. I bought the same item from as well(wanted to have a backup), it also exhibits similar minor defects. At least treated me fairly and allowed me to exchange/return. If this is the level of service I expect to receive from York Cameras, I wouldn’t dare to spend more money on more serious items.

This is a Canon Pro shop with a deservedly good reputation. I bought my 7D here for a very reasonable price after leaving the dodgey import shop Microglobe which is just around the corner. The staff are old school old guys that know their stuff and this is really a shop for photographers rather than a place to pick up a point and shoot. The manager, Robin is very helpful and you can tell from the talk in the shop that a lot of the people in here are regular customers. I have absolutely no reservation in recommending this place. It would get five stars if they carried a better selection of tripods/heads rather than a very limited selection of the ubiquitous Manfrotto range.

Run by two old guys, this shop stocks both second hand film and digital cameras. I bought a used Bronica here and the customer service was excelllent. They have a real knowledge of photography and I have been back since just to browse. Updated: 07/02/2013 I returned to buy a new Canon DSLR that was in perfect condition and boxed. I was given ample time to try out the camera and chatted to the two guys whilst they waited. Their presence on the high street is even more significant given Jessops recent closure and anyone with an interest in photography owes them a visit. Good service backed up by two guys who know what they’re doing.

I went to ask for a second hand lens, the old man couldn’t bother to assist me. When I asked for a lens he didn’t even know he had the one I was looking for until he opened his shelf. His attitude was appaling, it was as he was asking me to leave the shop and was selling a 2nd hand lens at almost the same price as the new one. He said go buy it online then when I asked for other lenses to look at. Awful, appaling, unprofessional, I wonder how they still operate, don’t ever buy from them!

Amazing place. Loads of old cameras, camera stuff and general camera accessories, apparently York Cameras specialise in Canon. It’s all UK stock — no imports, second hand stuff, etc. Cleary, these folks are real camera experts, so they know what they’re on about. Bit of an old man kinda vibe which put me off going in. But if you know your camera stuff, they’ll be good to talk to, even just for practical advice. Novices beware, know your stuff and you’ll have a ball. Come in showing your newness to the scene and you’ll leave blushing…
