From giant grass fields, to fairytale-esque woods, to a golf course — Wimbeldon Common is a little bit of all things to all people. I’ve been here for the Village Fair(nice, if lacking covered space on a sunny day) and have walked and wandered across the forest-y parts toward Richmond Park. It’s all lovely.

Not sure if this place is really worth the time on a visit, but nice nontheless for green space refreshment.

Richmond Park gets all the love, but I actually prefer Wimbledon Common. It’s smaller, more secluded and less popular with joggers and cyclists than Richmond Park. This makes it more peaceful and seem more of an escape from London than Richmond Park. My favourite part are the woods, where wandering along the wide dirt tracks under the the mingling branches overhead is hugely evocative: I could easily imagine a Robin Hood film being shot here! Definitely somewhere I want to return to.

Perhaps best known for being the home of the Wombles, Wimbledon Common is a large green by Wimbledon Village. At its southern end, there’s a large open green where the Wimbledon Village Fair will be taking place on the weekend of 20th June. Towards the northern end, there are woods where people go jogging and horse riders use the pathways too. And no, I’ve not seen a Womble yet. They seem endangered these days, even on TV!

Wimbledon Common is literally the hugest common I’ve visited since being in London. The whole common seems to go on and on forever and seems like it’s divided into two parts. There’s the part of the common which can be seen, some water, lots of grass, lots of open land basically. If you walk a little deeper into the common there’s a wooded area, where all dog walkers seem to let their dogs run around. A small gravel path goes straight on as far as the eye can see and there are trees on either side with the aforementioned dogs running around. Wimbledon Common is like a «split personality» common with the tame wide open space and the slightly wilder hidden space. I do like this common, there is not much to actually«do» but great if you fancy a *realy* long walk!
