A reasonable sized pub off of a side street in the Liverpool Street area, Williams Ale & Cider House is decked out in dark wooden furnishings, lending it an old and cosy feeling. It was a tad crowded and noisy when I visited, which sucked some of the atmosphere out. It’s impossible to enjoy traditional flagstone flooring and dark oak panelling when you’ve got people shouting and spilling their drinks everywhere. The bar staff are really friendly and accommodating and you’ll get served quickly, despite the crowds. There’s a good selection of drinks, which are all good value considering the area. I just walked away from the whole experience feeling«meh» — the décor feels like it’s offering something that the atmosphere just doesn’t deliver. A real pity.

Never would have found this place, if it wasn’t for a friend who used to work there. What a lovely little hidden gem. They have a wide variety of different ales, lagers and ciders. I love the idea how you can buy a paddle for 4 pounds and have a paddle, which corns ins three 1⁄3 pints, so you get a good taste of each beer. Such a genius idea and at a very, very reasonable price! Aside from the beer, the food is ridiculously good for a pub, it’s more like restaurant quality. I got the salmon and prawn fish cake which was superb, it was served with a poached egg on the top, which had a lovely runny yolk when I cut into it. The fish cake was a nice mix of fish and potato, and total perfection. My friend got the only Indian dish on the menu — saag agloo, which was just the right amount of spicy and a sizeable portion. Not a massive fan of Indian, but I gotta admit, I was having a little bit of food envy with this. We played a few board games while we were there which was super fun and the seating is really comfy and ideal for spending a whole afternoon there! Really can’t recommend this place again, and apparently they have a sister venue only a few streets away, which is next on my list to check out.

Williams is decent. Good range of beers(kind of in the name…) and whiskey too!(Not in the name but if it was it would get quite unwieldy) We managed to get a couple of tables. That was a godsend as it gets exceptionally busy. Chips were decent. There’s not much more to say… It’s a classic style boozer that serves decent beer. Toilets are somewhat intimate. If you’re in the area and fancy a drink then you should come along. I don’t know about food(other than chips) but I would expect that it’s decent.
