West Brompton London Underground and Overground Station

Not even really sure what the point of this station is. Yet another in the list of pointless station.
Across the road and around the corner from Earls Court why do we need West Brom?
Really?

Way more convenient and tons less crowded than the Earl’s Court Tube Station, West Brompton is on on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line between Earl’s Court and Fulham Broadway stations. It may be a good alternative if you’re headed to the Exhibition Center, especially if you’re coming from the Wimbledon area. It is directly opposite the Brompton It is also on the London Overground between Imperial Wharf and Kensington.
Yes, they have the usual ticket barricades and Oyster readers. The station is in Zone 2.

The station is on the district line, wimbledon branch. It was very close to the Earls court station, only a 3mins walk. You could also get the exhibition center through this station. Recently, it offered another great route, which you could use to get to Westfield shopping center. Only takes you 6mins to be there by London overground. The station itself was also very nice.

West Brompton is a very pleasant station. It is quite small and is on the district line before Earls Court. It is really easy to get to Earls Court building from this station as it is right outside. Trains usually aren’t held here for very long and the tube comes through here frequently. You can use oyster cards here and it will make your journey much cheaper.

Surprisingly little known to those from outside the area, West Brompton is something of a hidden gem, with a wide variety of destinations available. It’s used by over 3.3 million people every year.
It’s only 5 minutes’ walk from the Warwick Road exit of Earl’s Court station, but more importantly it is actually closer to Earl’s Court 2 than Earl’s Court itself, and gets a lot less crowded when there are events taking place.
Situated on the Earl’s Court to Wimbledon branch of the District line, it gets direct trains both to Edgware Road and Upminster, as well as Wimbledon. The two Underground platforms have an attractive high-​level canopy, with ivy-​clad walls and planted borders. These platforms were opened in 1869 as a terminus from Gloucester Road, and were extended to Putney in 1880. The station building is a small but neat example in a creamy stock-​brick Italianate style.
Adjacent are the National Rail platforms on the West London line, recently christened part of the ‘Overground’ network after London Underground took them over from Silverlink. These platforms opened in 1866, but the service had a very chequered history, with services suspended between 1940 and 1999!
There are two services: the Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction service every half hour, augmented in frequency and extended to Stratford via the North London line in the peaks. The other service is operated by Southern, and runs hourly from Watford Junction (on the London-​Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool line) via Kensington Olympia, and onwards to Clapham Junction, Gatwick Airport and Brighton (cut back to Clapham Jn in the evening, and on Sundays).
The ‘Overground’ platforms have lifts to the street level, and there’s a level connection from the Clapham-​bound platform to the Earl’s Court platform. The platform to Wimbledon is accessible only by a flight of stairs.
On the far side is — unbelievably — a small nature reserve, with a pond, on the site of former sidings, themselves on the site of the former Kensington Canal. Foxes sometimes trot along the platform at dusk. The sylvan theme is reinforced by the presence of Brompton Cemetery on the other side, above the station.
If you look really carefully behind the lift tower on the Kensington-​bound platform, you can see an elegant stone arch among the bushes — from the original pre-​railway bridge over the Kensington Canal.
There are several pubs around, all serving real ale — the Atlas (see separate entry) around the corner does good food and good ales, and there’s a small pizza joint across the road. For drinks, the Tournament is a ten second walk, opposite, and also provides the nearest loo.
