I was told about Wesleys Café by someone who had been to London before. They told me that there is a little cafeteria-style place to eat in the basement of a church. There are only so many food options near Westminster so I decided to give it a go. Verdict? Well… it was ok. The thing is this. I got there right between their breakfast and lunch menu, which meant that I either had to wait 20 minutes for lunch, or I could only eat whatever they had left over. There was no breakfast. So I had a jacket potato with bacon and mushrooms. It was decent. I also ordered a bag of crisps and when I attempted to pay, the cashier tried to tell me that the 20 quid bill was too big. Then after I told her that I had nothing else, she reluctantly took it from me. I would say that overall, the place is fine for a quick snack. Or make sure you come after lunch starts. The atmosphere of the place is a cafeteria in a basement, but clean and with highlights. Not too bad overall, but nothing to write home about.

This is a cafeteria in the basement of a church. There is a little sign across the road from the main entrance of Westminster Abbey to cue you in. Ambience is a church cafeteria. It has several set menus for the day – huge portions. Meat and vegetarian options as well as a small salad bar. The curry was great, but the fish just tolerable. The heaping vegetable side options made up the deficit. Free wifi is a bonus. Much cheaper and faster than a tourist eatery in the area.

Wesleys’ off-street basement location makes it little tricky to come across but is well-worth seeking out. The café is organised like a canteen with seating for perhaps 120 and a selection of commendable snacks. I took a hot chocolate which I would rate at 6⁄10. Wesleys Café is also very quiet — a neat retreat to catch up with work or schedule an important meeting.
