If you have ever had Mexican food prepared by Mexicans in a restaurant owned by Mexicans, or anything even close, you will be disappointed by Wahaca. As the spelling of Oaxaca suggests, this is «Mexican» food for people who have no idea what Mexican food actually is. It is very creamy and tastes almost Italian influenced. The chips were cardboard covered in sour cream. The«avocado salsa» in my burrito contained zero avocado. Do the chefs ever see fresh tomatillo? Probably not. To be fair, I shouldn’t have expected so much coming from Los Angeles to a place that has very very few Latinos. Stars for a clean, friendly and well-managed chain. The quality of the ingredients were fine, just definitely NOT authentic Mexican. I would honestly rather go to Chipotle.

For the last week I’ve been in two different Wahaca restaurants and the service was terrible in both. Food is tasty! The environment is really interesting and nice but the service is just really bad. Waiting for ages for everything — order, drinks, bill. Bad. Bad. Bad. Its putting me off every time I want to enjoy their food.

I like Wahaca, I like the way the menu is structured, the little plates for sharing, there is choice without it being overwhelming; the food is tasty and arrives quite quickly. The kitchen staff is impeccable. However the waiting staff is slow, some of them a plain rude. We ordered our drinks, nothing too complicated, mine came wrong and the waitress just dumped it on the table and left before I got the chance to say it’s wrong. An other waitress apologies and took it away and it took 20min to get the right one. After my friend asked 3 times if we can order we finally did. I do like this place, but the staff gets worse and worse

If I could give less I would. The food was bland the black beans were an over kill and tasteless the staff was so inattentive they served me tap water in a dirty glass with a bean stuck to it. Idk if I’m so disappointed because I’m Mexican but I guess you get what you can here

When i was in London, i was in a bit of a Latin withdrawal crisis. I’ll admit maybe i was a bit homesick… so Wahaca was amazing. My buddy and i created a Wahaca Wednesday tradition. They have great drinks, great soft tacos and omg the guacamole. The location at Shepherds Bush is ideal, not too crowded.

Wahaca is a great place for a casual dinner which is fun, interesting and tasty. 3 of us enjoyed some small plates, the Wahaca selection plate is a good choice as it showcases a good variety of items from the small plates section and saves you alittle money too. Favourites include quesadilla(both mushroom and the famous chorizo and potato are great) the taquitos, crispy tortilla rolls filled with lovely fillings, topped with salad, sour cream, cheese and tomato. Infact, many things here are served with a little pile of salad, which makes me very happy! We also tried the fish tacos between us, lovely, fresh salad and crispy fish, served with a surprisingly flavourful rice and beans. I would say that the small plates, tapas style, are better than the large plates, they are better value for money, tastier and showcase a wider range of flavours. Dessert was a shot of chocolate, which is different to the usual hot chocolate, closer to proper drinking chocolate, chocolate cake, which was abit boring and… churros! Now shoot me down for saying this but I’ve never had churros before and I have to say, this place has ruined me for churros for the rest of my life because they were awesome; crispy, crunchy, soft in the middle, slightly fatty tasting, in the best possible way and served with caramel dipping sauce… totally yummy! We also enjoyed some nice cocktails; Hibiscus margarita and Hibiscus Mojito but the menu showcases quite afew interesting options, soft drinks sounded nice too. All in all, an enjoyable meal, food is served very quickly, is fresh and moreish and good value, this places gets busy though so go super early!

If you ask me, I am not a massive mMexican fan and I would never have walked into this restaurant. Luckily I was invited and I ate here. To my surprise this place is actually really tasty and priced very reasonably. there is a huge selection of street food as well as the normal main courses including tacos burritos fish chicken beef… you name it. They also do special drinks and virgin cocktails which were all very tasty. We ordered so much(almost one of each) I cannot possibly remember which dish is which. This place is very good for groups if you like sharing or if you want to try lots of dishes.

Met my sister-from-another-mister here a month ago. Hayfever was KILLING me, omg it was so bad and I needed a) to hide inside b) some alcohol to numb the histamines a little. I also needed about a thousand tissues for the almost constant sneezing I and the other diners were subjected to. The service was a little slow unfortunately but the food was good: I had a burrito, my SfaM had something veggie which she liked and we shared some… broccoli? That doesnt sound right, but Im sure it was broccoli! Anyway, handy location, wasnt really busy so we got a table immediately and food OK. I’d probably come back if I was at Westfield and wanted ‘Mexican’, though there is another one inside right?!

Okay, so, this is really not ‘authentic’ Mexican food. More like Mexican-inspired. On the other hand, if we disregard that, it’s pretty decent. I really like their taquitos and the drinks, and it has a pretty nice atmosphere. I wouldn’t come here alone, it’s definitely a place for friends to share. That said, their tapas are small. Good, but quite small for the price. I did like the chicken dish I ordered just for myself this one time though, it was spiced quite well and the cilantro rice was yummy. Staff was friendly but kind of scattered especially during busy hours — not really their fault, though.

No, it isn’t perfect. No, it isn’t a family run, hole in the wall. As a Californian I should stay away out of respect. However, they have a decent tequila menu and make a nice passion fruit margarita. I usually order the sweet potato taquitos, and something from the evening specials or the sonora steak salad. The side of sweet potatoes are sweet and spicy and my husband really likes their burritos. The staff tends to be a bit dazed and confused, but there are a couple good servers at this location.

First off, this is not Mexican food. There is feta. There is a distinct lack of authenticity throughout. It claims to be authentic and Mexican. As someone who has eaten a lot of Mexican food in both the US and in Mexico, this is neither authentic Mexican, Tex-Mex nor anything in between. Also: Oaxaca. Don’t treat your audience as idiots. Now that that’s out of the way, I can review this place for the general tastiness of food and such. Decent enough dinner, if a bit tiny. They say that the«street food» dishes are designed to be shared tapas style. This would work if they weren’t so measly. For the most part, however, they tasted alright. Our server was a touch slow, but very responsive and friendly. The best part of the meal was the churros. Fresh, cinnamony, and with a nice chocolate sauce Still. Not Mexican. But a decent meal out if you want something Mexican-ish.

Decent enough Mexican-inspired food without blowing my socks off — a nice enough location with friendly staff. I enjoyed some things more than others; highs and lows really emphasising the average star rating I have given with this review. I want to emphasise the Mexican street food INSPIRED nature of the food on offer; I don’t think anything there would be welcomed as authentic by Mexicans or true fans of their food, but that doesn’t mean parts weren’t tasty. I just think describing dishes as «truly authentic» Mexican then throwing in feta, or Lancashire cheddar, is a bit of a mixed message. My favourite dishes were the spicy pork tacos, the queso fundido(which wasn’t so much cheese fondue as a cheese-sauce-topping for some cactus leaves, but was delicious anyway) and their«citrus fizz» drink(basically a non-alcoholic mojito). I was extremely disappointed however with their chicken taquitos. Described as «tender, marinated chicken» it was actually rock hard, burnt and tasteless chicken owing in part to the deep frying. It may well have been tender and marinated before it went in the fryer, but it was completely ruined. My wife and I went tapas style, grabbing a load of smaller plates to share — however we couldn’t share the pork tacos as they came with beans(not advertised) and my wife hates them. So that too was disappointing. All in all, if someone wanted to come here again with me, I wouldn’t be against the idea — however there are many, many better options so I doubt I will be returning to Wahaca(the spelling of this name really bothers me) on my own accord.

I feel sorry for you Brits when this is considered the best Mexican restaurant in London. My complaints… 1. Guacamole should be made to order not«made every day». When our order came, it was slightly brown. Fresh guacamole should be bright green. 2. The MSC fish tacos — my goujons were burnt to a dark brown. It looked like pieces of turd. Fried fish in tacos should be fried to a light golden color. Also, the fish just seemed like it’s processed & not fresh by the shape & the batter. It shouldn’t be the shape of a fish stick(or as you Brits call it… a fish finger). I did enjoy my tamarind magarita & the tortillas from my fish tacos with the smoky chipotle salsa. Maybe the meat items are better and more authentic.

I ordered the Beef Burrito and was disappointed with the actual amount of beef in it. Just a few strips and the rest was filling(rice, beans, cabbage, green rice, etc.). The ambiance was nice, but not Mexican at all. The music selection was mostly Salsa and Cumbia. Not very Mexican. To me, this was more of a Tex-Mex restaurant, but the flavor was not what you’d find in Texas or Mexico. There are other dishes on the menu that sound appetizing but I’m not sure I’d return to try them. Then again, the restaurant was pretty packed so they must be doing something right.

Man, I haven’t even finished yet and I have to write a review. Some friends and I tried to get into the one at South Bank the other night but there was a 90-minute wait for a table, so I knew I had to pop in another time. When I found it at Westfield in Shepherds Bush, I had to jump in. I’ve ordered a sweet potato side, slow-cooked pork burrito and the Tequila Experience. Sweet potato — I don’t know what they’ve done to it but I’ve never had anything like it. Crispy on the outside and so smooth and sweet in the middle. Perfection. I’ve made the mistake in the past of eating traditional Mexican before and adding cheese to the burrito. I learnt my lesson that time. The pork is so tender. It falls apart in your mouth. Jesus would say«Fuck you, Judas, I’m hanging around,» if this were served at the Last Supper. And the tequila! I’ve only had two of the three but they are so smooth, babies’ arses everywhere are jealous. Looking forward to the last. This is a must-do if you like food and you’re in London. I will be returning again before I leave.

Super cheap and yummy Mexican, sadly, only average service. The hubby and I shared chips & salsa, chicken tinga and pork pibil. We both loved the kick in the chicken tinga… as well as the extra kick provided from the fiery sauces on the table. My pure classic margarita was delicious but a bit on the small size. If you’re gonna put a ton of ice cubes in my alcoholic bevvy, at least fill it completely to the top of the tiny glass! We visited Wahaca on an early Sunday afternoon… a time in which it seemed that 50% of the tables had young children eating. Not sure what this place is like in the evenings, but steer clear on Saturday/Sundays lunches if you can’t handle a «yelping» child or two. :)

Wah-can-i-say?! Its super good! I know my tacos being from Southern California, The pork pibil tacos have great flavour and though they are a bit on the small side theres a small price attached to them. £4 for 3 mini tacos. This may not be proper street style, but i think the flavours are there and they are delicious. I love the tequila options and the fact that they have jamaica and horchata. SO good! I eat here when I start to miss mexican food.
