Vue Islington

Big cinema located in the middle of a small shopping centre. You will find plenty of bars, shops and places to eat around here as well as the O2 music venue. The cinema is located on the first floor and appears to have plenty of screens, the inside looks over the centre of the shopping area and you can see the Angel of Islington sculpture out the windows.
The inside is big and spacious, but there aren’t a lot of places to sit and wait before your film. The screen I went to was of a good size, but all the premium seats are in the centre so if you just pay the standard price ticket it’s likely you will be to one side or too close to the front. There is plenty of legroom and the seats are still comfy and that’s a definite plus when you have legs as long as me.

I went to a screening last night for «Straight Outta… «and the customer service didn’t disappoint!
The tickets were purchased online so when we arrived at the cinema, we only had to retrieve the tickets from the automated machine… No waiting in line for us lol.
When ordering from the concession line, the server really paid attention to detail. She asked how I wanted my salsa and cheese spread on my nachos and she wasn’t satisfied until I gave her very specific instructions. She’s going far in the industry of customer service.
As I was leaving the concession counter, a row broke out behind me. Someone decided to form two lines instead of joining one line. There were two women rowing with two men on who was next in line and I felt empathy for our concession server… She didn’t observe the situation in its entirety to know which pair to believe because she was too busy serving me.
Fortunately, a professional smile never left her face and the server didn’t lose their cool.

Really hit and miss here with the staff, sometimes you get friendly people and other items people really not interested in being helpful.
The last few films I’ve been to see, staff come into the film and shine lights to check for people videoing, it becomes very distracting and can spoil the film.
For the location and facilities, it’s definitely overpriced. I think it could use renovation with the seats and then would justify the ticket price more.

I came in a perfect mood ready to watch a good movie and the black lady working behind the counter had such a attitude it just ruined everything so I went to find the manager and he could care less! Been coming here for years sadly I don’t want to come here anymore with this kind of customer service.

I frequent the Vue in Islington on a weekly basis. As it is in the N1 Centre, there are a lot of shops and restaurants (chains, of course) to visit before or after a film. The facilities are clean and generally prompt. The queues can be quite long whether it be to retrieve bookings or to buy from the concession stand, so make sure you get there at least 15 minutes before your film starts. All in all, a fine cinema.

A local cinema for North Londoners, in the N1 Islington Shopping Centre, a few minutes walk from Angel Station. They have a large foyer and there are plenty of cubicle in the Ladies (the one near the screening rooms is tiny, only two cubicles). The seating in all the Screens are tiered so great views wherever you sit.
Do not like that they put the lights on as soon as the credits roll (they say it is for health and safety, so people can see if they need to leave during the credits) and it is on a timer for when the film finishes, so if it starts late, it comes on sooner than it should! Annoying.

It shows new release movies on nice screens with comfortable chairs.
An upgrade to VIP won’t kill you and the chairs are pretty nice. If you are on a date, make them pay for this, it’s only fair since you’ve agreed to join them.
Otherwise…hmphhh. The concessions are sloooooooooooooooower than the buttery drool atop the popcorn. So slow. It’s magnificent to watch the sheer inefficiency of the entire operation. Luckily ticket sales and getting into the theater seats isn’t quite so painful, but good god someone hire a COO of concessions, these people need some direction in their lives.
It’s overpriced, but not so much so that I will stop going. Sometimes you want to see a film aith 400 people on a large screen and you will pay for the privilege. Own it. At about £12.50, the pleasure is yours.
*Easy access from Angel tube.
*The commercials before the most recent movie were THIRTY MINUTES. So no need to rush.
*I noticed they have special low-​volume autism showings for kids/​parents, worth looking into if so desired.

This is the best cinema in central london in my opinion. Its very clean and very quiet! Me and my dear friend went to see The Riot Club on its opening night and almost had the screen to ourselves!!! I shouldn’t even be Unilocaling about this cinema as its such a hidden gem!

I’m a big fan of Vue Islington. It’s my local theater, so maybe I’m slightly biased, but the tickets seem a bit cheaper than other theaters in central London, the screens seem much better, and they play tons of movies.
Also, between you and me, they have an excellent Ben and Jerry’s selection.
Never disappoints.

At a time when I was thinking of bumping this Vue up to three stars they go and give me reasons not to. The prices are far to high. At a shade under £15 for some screens this is unjustifiable, they’ll tell you that these are their ‘Xtreme’ screens (huge screens which, due to their size, one tends to sit further away from thus practically eliminating the point of a huge screen) but when the film you want to see is only showing in these huge screens then you are not left with much choice but to pay the over-​inflated prices.
This isn’t an isolated occurrence, though, as Vue cinemas everywhere over charge.
Aside from not receiving value for money (standard adult tickets are over £12) this place was on the up — ever so slightly. Often times there still is small, chattery groups when I visit. Again, this is a pan-​Vue/​ODEON problem. However, The staff have recently found they’re smiles. For a number of visits now whoever has served me has been pleasant and rather cheery. On my last jaunt my server was positively buoyant!
And, what’s more, the toilets are actually quite clean.
One step forward and one step back. There it is.

My local movie-​theatre… And probably one of the better cinemas in London (Lucky me, woo!)
The lobby is nice enough, obviously as with any cinema it’s ludicrously overpriced for snacks and drinks. The staff are all friendly enough (this has definitely improved over the last year IMHO).
The actual theatres range from small-​large — I much prefer the Vue Extreme theatre (screen 9 I believe) as the screen is massive and the sound quality is out-​of-​this world!
Definitely worth 10-​minutes travel from Leicester Sq as the cinemas there are absolutely appalling in comparison!

And they finally had the good idea to remove the twenty-​odd TV sets from the 1990s in the main lobby.
Still a bit expensive on week-​end nights, but the seats are comfy and the picture quality is excellent.

Yeah, it’s not Every Man, or as comfy as the Screen on the Green… and yeah, it gets rowdy, especially when you’re on an opening night and you’ve got loud and drunk folks watching the movie right along with you… Yeah, it’s too loud, and you need ear plugs to watch a movie in this cinema. Yeah, the staff are non plussed, and the security guard looks and sounds like a 2 bit version of Sly Stallone in Cop Land.
But hey. It’s a blockbuster mainstream movie house. And it has pop corn and candy.
So put up, or shut up… ;-)

It’s a decent cinema. They tend to have all the big new films in, and the seats are comfortable. However, I have never had a film start on time, often I don’t get to enter the screening room until moments before it’s supposed to start. 30 minutes of previews and commercials are a bit much, and I never buy my concessions in the cinema itself. I always toss a pack of chocolate in my purse because they charge an insane amount of money for food there. Three quid for a small bottle of water? Not likely. If I had better options in the area, I’d use them.

Probably one of the better cinema options in metro London, if not just for its proximity to the Angel station.
As with anything concerning entertainment, admission can be pricey but not intolerable. Place is tidy and generally well run.
Plenty of dining options within walking distance.

I’m not a fan of Vue cinemas because they are always cold and uncomfortable and overpriced. This cinema is no exception.

Uggggghghghgghghghg.
This theatre is terrible. It’s your typical Vue, with overpriced tickets and concessions. The screens are a decent size (although I feel they’re larger at other Vues around the city in more popular locations) and it’s clean enough.
Where is loses points though are location and staff. Both — horrible.
First, location, which is in the shopping plaza in the hear of Angel. It;‘s right next to an O2 Music Venue which means you have to walk through a cloud of smoke from the giant group outside just to get into the theatre. Awful.
Then, because it’s smaller but located in popular Angel, it’s always crowded. And the staff is terrible and does nothing to move the lines along. I’ve seen so many bored teenage workers just sitting there while people look lost or confused trying to use the automated ticket machines (the only way I saw to buy a ticket, but it was so damn crowded, I could have been mistaken.)
Avoid this theatre, avoid this whole scene, go somewhere better.

I’m used to visiting Cineworld cinemas which tend to be a lot nicer than this

I don’t mind visiting this cinema to see some diabolical 2-​star chick flick because that way I don’t have to combat the masses of yuppie Angel-​ites and the hoodlum youths of greater Islington swarming the screening room like a thousand angry bees.
But if I wanted to see a high-​profile new release? I’d rather jump off a cliff.

Overall I like this cinema and visit quite often but it’s OK, not perfect. The cinemas themselves are pretty good and a reasonable size and there is usually a good selection of films on offer.
On occasion (last night included) it appears there could benefit from a few more employees working there to keep the place better organised, especially when crowded. With the £12 ticket prices, you would think they could stretch to that. They could also do with more ticket machines in the entry area (1 out of the 4 broken) as it gets pretty busy at the weekend. Online booking system is also temperamental at times.
