I find the taste to be more like the ones I’ve had back in states, which probably doesn’t mean«authentic» but having eaten my share of Vietnamese food all over CA and from little Saigon(places my Vietnamese friends have taken me to), I would stay this place really is not bad, especially when I live so close by it. It’s my neighborhood go to phở restaurant for sure

Sometimes you just want reasonable oriental food served with beers, smiles and unintrusive music. And no w*****s yelling into their mephones. This place has all these things and long may it remain so. Friendly & charming staff. Thanks again!

My absolute favourite place for Vietnamese soup noodles. Their chicken phở(flat rice noodle in a light fragrant soup) is full of flavour and I also love their bun hue(rice vermicelli in hot and spicy broth) with beef. The restaurant is full of old world charm, and I love how unassuming the place is. The prices are even student friendly(£15 pp), and it would appear they now have another location in Shoreditch(Huong).

Really authentic and delicious! The slow cooked pork with the pickled carrots, cabbage and beans sprouts are really nice.

Do NOT come here for a QUICK meal. The service here is e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y — s-l-o-w. I thought maybe this would be a product of busy weekend nights, but no it’s been tried and tested on quiet weekdays as well when only 2 other tables were dining in the restaurant but it’s like the waitresses have the air of people stepping in for the night who don’t really think it’s their job to tend to you… Not that they are rude, just a bit aloof… Vietnamese coffee is good and genuine, you get the individual filter over the glass brought to the table if you order it hot. I really like the broth that comes with the phở, it’s very fragrant and you get freshly chopped chili and a bean sprout garnish to add as you wish for a more crunchy and spicy variety. Rice noodles were all is a stodgy gloop which took a while to separate for eating purposes. The prawn toast(when it finally came, not as a starter like we’d ordered it as, but at the end of our meal) was worth the wait. Tried the Vietnamese pancake too, which was interesting but over all quite bland and sort of fell to pieces during consumption so probably wouldn’t bother with that again and go for the summer rolls instead. Poor old Viet Garden. Even though the service was sloppy, it is incredibly cheap with most dishes around £6, and I would still rather dine here to support a family owned business than many of the larger corporate owned places on Upper Street which tend to be packed with people, but many of them not of a higher standard.

I used to live near this Viet restaurant, meaning I have eaten there quite a few times, although not in the last year. Decent Viet food, not spectacular & never overly busy. The staff are lovely and the place is decent. Recommend if you are in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there.

Really excellent place, the food is great, the service is friendly, and it is good value. We had a particular good dish of braised pork with duck eggs, absolutely delicious! The décor is a bit basic and tired, but you can easily forgive that. I’m definitely coming back!

Used to live nearby with my cousin, who often went there when too lazy to make dinner. Simple place, sometimes busy, sometimes not. Staff spoke Vietnamese, service was good and the waiter was nice to us, as my cousin was a regular. We took some summer rolls, they were fine, nothing exceptional, maybe even a bit poor in their content. Also took some deep-fried aubergines, as much as I liked them, they are not a Vietnamese dish. «You have to eat that londonish Phở» he kept on telling me, half laughing. So we ordered the«special Phở»…I’ve never seen a Phở that features pork, chicken and beef. I guess that’s why it is special ! Tastes was not so great, it can do the trick, comforting if you crave for a bit of Phở scent. Definitely not the best, but not the worse. Let’s say it’s edible. (to be honest, I’ll actually go back for these fried aubergine. damn me and my love for fried stuff.)

At least it’s open late… I was having a late-night wander after an excellent(but unfortunately finished) show in Islington and, typically, starving– and getting close to 10PM on a Sunday night. Now, aside from Walkabout and whatnot, Upper Street on a Sunday night pretty much rolls up the sidewalks. Which is unfortunate– it’s hard enough to find something decent around there as it is. Enter Viet Garden. Now, I love me some Phở. Shaken beef. Bun. 33. Something about the freshness and the grittiness and the avalanche of flavours that fling across your palate and spice. Vietnam and Thailand would have to come on my desert island cuisine tour. Especially as all the chili would make the food last longer. The phở was a big blob of glommed noodles in a decent, but nothing special. broth. Very few bits of meat. A teensy plate of bean sprouts/lemon/chili. No sauces. There was chili ginger chicken, but again uninspired. On the up side, it’s open, cheap, and with pretty good service. £20 for dinner with drinks including service. Um. Yeah. 207 Liverpool Road London N11LX

Well priced vietnamese cusine located on liverpool road. The Bun Xa is excellent but so is almost everything on the menu. it’s often quite busy but it’s rare that you will have to wait for a table. Definatly worth trying especially if you haven’t tasted vietmanese cusine. Has won many cheap eat awards and it’s easy to see why with main courses for under £6.
