REVIEWOFMUSEUM, including shops Superb, huge collection, with wonderful docent-led guided tours of various parts of the museum. Lovely garden dining area(and good food!) and phenomenal collection of design items, old and new, art, and rotating exhibitions(tho must admit I was not interested in the one on Alexander McQueen, which was open for 24 hours on the last day). Lovely, if expensive, items in shops. AND — entry to the regular collecton is FREE!

This shop is such a delight! The first time I went here I could have bought just about everything. Even stuff I knew I would never use or need for that matter. Maybe it was the high of seeing such amazing things!!! My only problem with this last visit was all the things I wanted to purchase were sold out!

One of the best museum shops around! If you’re looking for something arty or for anything fiber-related, this is the place. Always better than typical museum shop fare, the V&A usually have at one exclusive line of items(fabrics, haberdashery, books, etc. etc.).

I love this shop. I never actually buy anything, but I can spend a good half hour wandering around and appreciating and/or laughing at the things they have on offer here. Plus, it’s attached to an awesome museum.

Situated smack dab in the middle of the museum, you see that this place has all of the normal museum souvenir-type things. Aside from that, I would skip it and just focus on the wonderful things they have at this massive museum. I almost prefer it over the Louvre only because it’s much quieter and less crowds of tourists.

Looking for a unique gift at a reasonable price? Well, the V&A shop has some lovely, pretty things that might just do the trick. A William Morris printed mug, Cool Britannia memorabilia, beautiful art books are amongst many choices of items you might walk away with.

The V&A shop has an amazing selection of jewelry and accessories. How can one not love a place that sells giant sparkly unicorn brooches?

For my mother I got a bracelet of knotted silk. I bought a stamp set for my cousin here as a gift. Of course they also have cards or postcards. The scarves are expensive. They also sell a fashion origami set so I was folding jackets and skirts in class.

I always find that museum shops are a great place to buy cards and presents, as they have a really interesting selection of not only exhibition related buys, but unique items. The best thing by far about the V&A shop, which I visit without even checking out the museum, is their jewelry selection. This is very fitting since as they have such an exquisite jewelry gallery upstairs and many of the pieces reflect periods that I’ve seen in the gallery. Although in no way are they tacky copies that you often find in museums, they’re by fabulous designers in their own right, who have taken inspiration from history. The shop is elongated and glass cabinets run parallel to each other down the length displaying the items, this really helps as it’s often very busy, but you can peer though the cases from both sides. It’s very well staffed and It’s easy to grab a shop assistant to take things out for you to try on. They have everything from very modern, individual and wacky pieces, such as the huge Marion Vidal wood and ceramic necklaces to classically inspired Castellani pendents and charms. The prices begin modestly, but can rise up to the hundreds for the more precious items. Along with the jewelry, they of course sell all the usual museum paraphernalia, yet even this is better than your typical museum selection, with beautiful cards and even a pricey clothes selection reflecting the V & A’s interest in beautiful textiles.
