Decent selection of cycling accessories, and they’ll fix your bike if you have a problem like a puncture, although I found the prices higher than others in the area. However I was disappointed when I tried to take it in for a light service. The guy basically told me there was no point riding my bike unless I was going to replace a million different parts and pay for a major service. I was trying to get a quote out of him for a less complete service that didn’t involve taking my bike apart and paying £120, but I couldn’t. He was generally quite disparaging about different parts of my bike like the tires and my basket, which even if it’s true in the grand scheme of bicycles, there are nicer ways of saying it. My bike isn’t fancy, but it’s pretty solid, only a year old, rides well, so I don’t think all the replacements he was suggesting were strictly necessary. I didn’t like this aggressive upsell. Another bike shop was happy to just replace my brake pads and make sure the brakes, bolts etc are safe to ride, which is all I wanted and all my budget would allow.

I had a terrible experience at this bike shop. Someone tried to steal my bike and warped my back wheel in the process. When I went into the shop the guy working there accused me of buying a stolen bike and essentially blamed me for my near bike theft by leaving my bike securely locked outside my building overnight. He gave me a two day turnaround time for my bike to be ready and said I would get a phone call. I didn’t get a call so I went into the shop to pick it up, and found out that the new wheel hadn’t even been ordered yet. The owner apologised and ordered it and said it would be ready in another two days and when I went to pick it up in the morning, the same guy who was beyond rude to me when I dropped it off was 10 minutes late to open the shop, making me late for work in the process. That said, the repairs and replacement wheel, tyre and tube were done well, but the service was awful. Should’ve pushed by broken bike to PUSH cycles, lesson learned.

It’s 4.5 stars actually(since no one gets 5… right?). I used to patronise a nearby E London Bike S**** shop(it rhymes with Crack) but just recently something bad has happened there & whatever it is impacted in a v negative way on customer service. They basically shone me on for 3 weeks telling me the work on my bike would be done this thursday — next thursday, blah blah blah. Out of loyalty to the really cool guy that USED to be at the shop I hung on but eventually, in frustration, I took my bike back off them(that’s a 1st for me). I tootled off to these brilliant guys. The work plus a complete service done to a high standard took 4 hours — yes you read correctly, I had my trusty bike back the same afternoon. Let’s examine that equation for a moment: 3.5 weeks/NO work done vs 4hours /GREAT work done + prompt communication = no contest.

Following my comment on Ms_Bling’s review, this bike shop has been around for quite a while, at least 6 years, when I first moved to Stokey. It isn’t cluttered now — admittedly it’s a small shop and they want a reasonable amount of stock on display, but you can still wheel a couple of bikes in there for them to have a look at. I’ve popped in a few times but never made a major purchase or had a service. I’ve always found the staff really helpful, one took the time to demonstrate how to properly change your rear inner tube as I kept getting punctures. The only bad thing I have to say is there collection of clothes, or lack off. I went in there at the start of winter to buy some tights and they just said that they don’t do them.

Hoorah! Finally, we have a bike shop on Stoke Newington Church Street! I’ve waited for this much-needed local resource for so many years. It’s just typical that it arrived just when I hung up by bicycle clips and my old bike seems past repairing and past saving any more. Still, it’s my New Year resolution to get back on a bike this year, which might mean investing in a new set of wheels. So I’ll definitely be popping in here in the near future to check out their stock. Past encounters have proved disappointing so far, with unattentive and disinterested staff(maybe they were shy?), and a shop so cluttered and crowded you couldn’t get near anything to have a good look at it. But I’ll give them another chance. They are my local bike shop after all, and I’ve waited long enough for one of those!

The people in here are so friendly. I went in to get a broken mud guard looked and, and to replace a back light. The staff helped me being in the bike and had a good look at it. After breaking my heart with writing off the bike as a death trap waiting to happen, he cheerfully sold me a back light. It was a bit like having a kindly grandfather tell you off. There’s a good variety of stuff, which is good quality but also a little pricey. Its an independent bike shop as well, which I prefer over the larger chains. The staff are very knowledgeable about the bikes in the shop, and will be able to advise you better than most chains as well.
