Decided to eat out but local to hotel in greater London as it was bit of a hike into London proper after work. A fair wee walk from the Holiday Inn but need the exercise so worth it to nosey around the locale. Sited on the High St, we decided to try The Windmill based on some local comments on nearby establishments.(Least worst option you might say). Large pub with plenty of covers and mostly empty aside from some workies propping up the bar. Nice outside space which would be nice on a good day. Plenty of signs advertising Gaelic sports so, easy to conclude an Irish theme could be on the cards. The menu was limited and adverts that on specific evening were burger n beer but not on our visit. Average prices, except for the steak options which were expensive when compared to our hotel prices. Orders were placed and the waitress then came up and advised that there was no lasagne left(ordered by the wee fella). So he opted for fish. I don’t know whether it is an English thing but his replacement choice of battered fish was served with skin on(same as in a visit to a café in Seahouses when my missus fish came whole — entirely — battered!). Other courses were OK — not owt to write home about but not offensive either. We were full and declined a sweet — but ice cream was sent out anyway — nice gesture but honest — we were full and poor that it went unfinished despite a valiant effort. The staff were friendly enough but one barmaid had some basic language challenges & something seemed lost in translation(East European?) when ordering drinks and food. In summary — mmmmmmmmm — just about OK for bite to eat and would have liked to have visited on a busy or weekend evening and try the outside garden.

Best Roast in London! I’ve been in there a few times now and always a great atmosphere. The staff are great and helpful. The prices are cheap.
