The Selkirk

The Selkirk is a great pub just opened up in the suburbs of Tooting. The girls and I from the #London Bloggers Supper Club, attended the opening and presented with a tasting menu from head chef Daniel Stevens (Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s sous chef for 4 years). The Selkirk is more than your local drinking hub, they are striving to bring your pub classics with a twist, with competitive prices and a very relaxed atmosphere.
On arrival we were greeted with a delicious cocktail that showcased the owner’s freshly made Lemonade. A selection of English and French cheeses, proscuitto, and freshly made parmesan croquettes were offered to sample before being spoilt to a 4 course tasting menu, with matching wines. If you are a foodie, you would appreciate the difference the Selkirk brings to the table, comfort with class.
With the food perfectly cooked, and served steaming hot, there is not much to complain about.
If you just want to head for a good olé drink, check out their amazing glasshouse seating and come join the fun for a bbq in their courtyard for summer.

A good mate of mine has his office around the corner from here so it was without much hesitation that we came here for an impromptu lunch a week ago.
As it’s down a quiet street it is more of a local pub and they have outdoor seating. My hayfever was ruining my day so we elected to sit indoors that day.
The staff we quite friendly and I had fajitas which were tasty, whereas my mate had this rather large burger which looked «amazeballs» (as he said).
If I lived/​worked around this area I would definitely come back here; the other reviews seem to paint a fairly good picture. The other patrons/​diners all seemed very friendly and as we were there pretty much at opening time yet it had a decent amount of ppl there, I can only extrapolate that this is a local spot.

A SW InstiTOOTion.
Back in the day when I lived in SW on first arriving in London town I lived in Tooting and oh how I loved it. Infact on arrival, this was the first local pub I inhabited. It’s great. Friendly, welcoming with a good crowd and great food and drinks. It offers comfort, a great menu, games and a good pub quiz.
I’ve since returned twice in the past couple of years for one of my friend’s music events that she’s run here and thankfully the pub is still all of the above.
Just what you want from a local pub.

Well worth visiting.

I really like the Selkirk. It’s not on the main roads of Tooting so is more of a local affair, but is popular and hosts quiz nights and comedy. It also serves food, although this is of the slightly more expensive gastropub variety.
It’s pretty big and has a number of inside sections and an outside area. Also holds board games!

I have to say the chief merit of The Selkirk is that it is the only half decent pub in Tooting. And I won’t hear otherwise.
It is a bit trendy, a bit cool, a bit hip, but it’s comfy, it’s clean, it’s a pub rather than a trendy wine bar, it’s the only pub in London I know to have bar billiards table (all be it a slightly knackered one).
The staff are very friendly (though I’m not sure that everyone was satisfied with the recent change in management. I find the new gaffer affable, polite and he appears to have a good memory for his punters), the clientele are on the whole pretty inoffensive.
The beer is good, though to be honest I am getting a bit bored with Tim Taylor’s Landlord. Nice pint but it is just every where. And I think if you are going to have two beers on then better to have one session beer and one with a bit more oomph. They also do a comprehensive range of lagers and ciders and the wine list really is very good. Very good indeed. And they have Hendricks gin! A most unusual gin.
The food is, I’m afraid, not satisfactory. A large, rather random, and very expensive selection far more suited to a bistro than a pub. But those of you who have read my reviews before will doubtless be tutting under your breath and praying that I shan’t bang on about it any more. So I shan’t.
Now then. On to the stuff you really want to know.
1: It’s expensive. Too expensive.
2: You can book tables any time, any day. That is just not right. It’s a bloody pub, not a restaurant. There is little point dropping in on a Sunday unless you have booked in advance. Last couple of occasions I’ve been in the only seats that weren’t booked were the two bar stools. Wind your bloody neck in Selkirk.
3: I don’t like children in pubs. I just don’t. I’m sorry but I don’t think it’s an appropriate environment to take young children. Especially if they are left to run feral. There are too many children in the Selkirk. On Sundays it’s like a bloody nursery.
However. It IS the only nice pub in Tooting Bec/​Broadway, it does have a nice atmosphere most of the time, there is a lot going on with comedy nights, pub quizzes, a music club which meets upstairs, all sorts. Well worth a visit if you’re in that neck of the woods. After all, there isn’t any where else to go.

We visited this pub in the evening and managed to grab a nook with leather sofas and a bookshelf full of bad thrillers, flower-​arranging guides and old accounting manuals. Outside the nook it seemed a bit gastro-​pubby, but with a nice crowd and decent beer with no braying Ruperts. Looks like they have a decent comedy night every other Wednesday.

Lovely pub only a few minutes walk from the tube but set back enough to attract a friendly mix of people. Great selection of beers and a very friendly set of bar staff. I’ve yet to visit on a warm/​sunny day but I’m looking forward to going back in the summer and making the most of the large beer garden.

This is another great pub in Tooting. It’s tucked away just behind the high street and has a huge garden with a conservatory out the back. It has a few sofas and a real fire which they light in the winter to make it very cosy. Another good thing is that they have a load of board games which you can use; chess, scrabble, cards; great for whiling away a sunday.

Came here on a very cold day for a Sunday roast as my wife had been years ago. Certainly did not expect it to be so busy. The place was heaving with young professionals and families. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly.
We both had roast chicken and we basically got a whole chicken on a platter which was cooked very well indeed. An abundance of vegetables as well. It was a big portion and just what I needed on a Sunday afternoon.
Would definitely recommend the Sunday roast!

Ahhhh The Selkirk. Many a hungover Sunday I have spent here gorging myself on Roast dinners, lounging across comfy leather sofas with the Sunday Papers. The way a Sunday should be.
The Sekirk is a pub that has a pretty extensive menu. All the usuals are on there, homemade burgers, steaks, fishcakes and the like plus a few more interesting extras such as Pumpkin Pie and a constantly changing Specials board. The food can be a a bit hit and miss here, they seem to do the basics well but when they get a bit more adventurous they lose it a bit. Last week I has Haddock baked in Hollandiase sauce served on Cheesy Mash Potato, which sounded nice in theory but was all very bland and looked pretty aneamic. The service isn’t great but at the same time it isn’t awful, you need to make yourself known at the bar and more than once I have had to ask where my food/​cutlery is. However, if you can get a table on a Sunday they do a darn good roast. Served on a big wooden chopping board is your choice of meat and everything that goes with, always more than enough and excellent value for money.

Great, friendly atmosphere, and the pub quiz on thursdays is a lot of fun.

Probably the only decent boozer in the area. Great beer and cider selection, and good sized beer garden. Didn’t try out food. You will get a rather eclectic crowd, due to its location. I went in wearing cricket whites and didn’t get abuse, which is nice.

Love this place.
Slightly away from the road but only just around the corner fro Tooting Broadway tube station, it has good food (pizza night curry night, great burgers), good drink (Timothy Taylors and Deuchars for the ale addicts), and a nice big beer garden.
It is also, without doubt, one of the friendliest pubs I’ve ever been to in London.
They have a late licence, a quiz night, and occasionally have Sky Sports, live music, and comedy in the room upstairs.
