The Phoenix

Quasi für uns die «erste Kneipe am Platz» nach Feierabend und dann und wann kehren wir hier ganz gerne ein für ein oder zwei Feierabendbiere.
The Phoenix ist ein recht gemütlich eingerichteter Pub, Bier schmeckt gut, man bestellt es am besten gleich im Pitcher, ist günstiger…
Es gibt hier auch was zu Essen aber das haben wir komischerweise noch nie ausprobiert, irgendwie zieht es uns doch jedesmal wieder weiter.
Fazit: Als Starter ja, aber richtig alt werden wir hier nicht.

Had another nice evening with a glass of Pinot and good company. Need to try the food again!

Good beer, not so good food. Famous fish sandwich, not very tasty. Great place to watch world cup, im sure.

As I understood, this place was closed for a while for refurbishment so I am writing about the new Phoenix now!
The food was amazing. I’d describe it as gourmet pub food. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and me and my friend couldn’t decide so we chose two and shared them. We went for the beer battered cod and chips (a necessity every time I visit old Blighty from Vienna!) and duck on a bed of cabbage and sweet potato. Ohhhhh dear, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Everything, even the chips, were amazing and we were even too full for desert — which rarely happens. I was dying to try the sticky toffee pudding!
The only reason it has 4 stars is because the waitress we we were assigned wasn’t very good. It was also a little confusing because normally you would place your order at the bar. It was clear that she was meant to assist in the busy lunch hour but she wasn’t very attentive at times. I do have to add that the pub had only recently reopened its doors when we ate there so by now I’d expect it to be better. The other staff however were very attentive and our table was cleaned quickly and efficiently as soon as we finished.

Not a brilliant place. Food average and beer quite poor. The only saving grace is the friendly staff

It was nice to be able to avoid the smoke here before the smoking ban came into force, but beyond that I found it a bit on the dear side and there wasn’t really anything special about it.
I haven’t been back since other pubs have been smoke free.
