History

Established in 2004.

Set in a modern, glass-fronted building, the Paternoster sits right next to St Paul’s Cathedral, providing the perfect metaphor for London today: the modern juxtaposed against the traditional. This theme continues inside, the Paternoster is set in a bright, airy, open plan space, but still retains the traditional values that encapsulate the British pub.

I’m surprised by the bad reviews here. Although one of the things I like about it is that it is rarely packed out, and you can get service pretty quickly, which may be some connected. Nonetheless I have been frequently over the last few weekends. Admittedly only on the weekend. And I have found e staff to be excellent. It’s a Youngster Pub, so the prices etc are standardised and not particularly cheap. But it is definitely better than the two and a half stars or whatever it has right now. Quite large inside, and not as corporate feeling as some in the area.

Poor service, expensive menu, terrible food. We waited over an hour for our food and when it arrived the quality was extremely poor. Almost no vegetarian options and nowhere near good value for money. Extremely disappointed!

This is a large, light and airy pub, which belies its ugly exterior, set on the corner of a modern development, a stones-throw from St. Paul’s Cathedral.
It’s a Youngs pub, so the beer can always be depended on. I recommend the ‘Special’ which is consistently good, and I’ve been drinking here on and off, since the place opened.
Bar service is good, meals were ordered from the bar in the old days, but nowadays your food order will be taken at the tables. I have only eaten light snacks here, so cannot really comment on the food — which is priced on the high side — as is normal for this area.
Clientèle are mostly local office workers with the odd stray tourist mixed in. Toilets are modern and clean, which gains one star in my book. There are a couple of tables outside in the lane which, due to the high surrounding buildings, can often seem like sitting in your own personal wind tunnel.
One star off for continually hiking the prices.

Went in paid £12 for two JD’s and coke and a shandy, which is fine for London prices. The décor is very nice but we then ordered 4 bowls of cheesy chips that totalled £16. Considering its supposed to be a warm inviting place for friends and family to meet and enjoy great traditional British food and drinks, we expected traditional chunky chips. Instead we had what looked like warmed up Mc Donald fries with cheese. Disappointing :-(especially for the money we paid !!

Fabulous location; ok pub. They’ve got a lot of space and tables inside, but it’s a Young’s pub so you basically know what to expect before heading in.
You could certainly do worse for a quick pint, but you could also do a bit better. There’s a few other pubs nearby that have a bit more charm and atmosphere, but if you’re not fussed for the details and you’re in the area, plop down by the big windows and watch a sea of suits walk by.

After a Flickr photo event this was the venue for the celebrations at the end of a long clue hunting day. I wasn’t expecting the astronomical prices for a decent drink. The décor seems rathe confused with a mix of glass and old traditional seats and sofas, with a mix of a Victorian feel. Catch my drift?

The Paternoster aims to be quite a classic looking pub in St Pauls, which is pretty dominated by more modern bars. However, considering how expensive the drinks are in here, you may as well go to a nicer bar. The food is OK and the menu is quite large and what you’d expect of this type of pub, the food is also pretty reasonable considering the area and how expensive the drinks are. Seems to attract a mixture of people including tourists, City types and people who work at Barts hospital just over the road.
