A big groups of us came for a work lunch here over Christmas. We booked out the upstairs area which was great. The staff were friendly & gave us prosecco on arrival then kept the drinks flowing. The problems started when the food arrived. We had pre ordered around a month in advance, and the waiters came round and took our names when we sat down. They then brought the food out and got every single one on our table wrong. I went to the bar to question this with the waiter and rather than apologising or offering to rectify the problem he replied ‘you’ve moved seats’. Erm, no, we haven’t. The food itself was also poor — the roast potatoes were pale and soggy, and the carrots cooked to the point that they mushed when I tried to stab them with the fork. A nice place to come for a drink, but I’d definitely avoid the food. Many better options in the immediate area.

Two friends of mine from Germany were visiting London and were excited about the obligatory Fish & Chips. We were at the National Portrait Gallery and then looked for a pub nearby. We found a free table in the upstairs dining room of The Marquis. Looking around me and seeing the food on other people’s tables, I regretted having sat down. I tried to stay positive but the food really was awful. Everything was bad quality and looked just cheap — the fish & chips, the soup, and the bread. You can probably go there for a pint but don’t waste your gut on the food.

Boring beer. Bad food. This place isn’t terrible. It’s just really not good. The beer range is dull and unsurprising. The food is varied but impressively bland. I had a chicken burger and onion rings. It was almost tasteless. Seriously, a tasteless burger. It’s almost impossible to get wrong. The potato skins are also tasteless apparently. This is fine if you just want food in your stomach or a drink, but you can almost definitely find somewhere better.

We had a difficult time finding pubs in this area that appealed to adults. We ended up upstairs for lunch. The farmers plate was a nice change to the usual pub fair. Seating could be cramped depending on how many clients there were. Only real downside is that the upstairs was poorly ventilated and much too warm.

Not much to say about this pub that would make it stand out from your typical London experience, but that is a good thing. Had the soup and fish and chips and ate in the upstairs dining room with only one other couple. It wa a little after 3pm, and the main floor was packed which is why we moved upstairs. Service was good and fast, and we liked the food. Thumbs up overall.

We came across this pub on our way from Leicester Square to Charing Cross. It’s downstairs bar area is always busy and lively. It has some nice beers on offer and one can sit at the big curved windows to watch the world walk past. It’s upstairs eating area is nice as well and they offer a great cheese board and some decent wines. Great place to spend a couple of hours after work or before going for a show.
