A great little local. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside it’s spacious and has a garden out back. I loved the church steeple looming over our view. The beer selection, for my taste, could have been better. They had 4 cask ales that were all not terribly different, but decent nonetheless. The food was great. We had a turkish pizza with ground lamb, feta, and coriander. Think and crispy base, kind of like lavash. The spiced aubergine and flatbread starter was also tasty. The Lord Stanley was recommended to us by our AirBnB hosts. Though we’ve lived in London it was never in this area so it’s great to get a local’s suggestion.

A pub, a pub — well what can I tell you about a British pub? I’m sure you’ve seen hundreds of them in your lifetime already? So what to expect here at The Lord Stanley; Well, I though it was a bit pretentious for a pub and the service was suuuuuuper slow! The menu(for both food & wine) is way better than you’d expect in a pub; all sorts of different wines that you can order per glass and more high end cuisine than your traditional ‘Bangers & Mash’ or ‘Fish & Chips’ pub grub. But alas, as good as it looks on paper — you cannot eat the written word and when you DO taste… A fancy description for not so fancy food I’m afraid. To be fair, I’m just eating a thin piece of steak with mustard & mayonnaise for £9,40; not some huge Angus with exquisite dressing. The«pea mint foam» is a dash of pea mash, come on you guys. Ordering a particular red wine — «No sorry, we don’t have that I’m afraid». Ordering a different one«No sorry, don’t think we have it». Can I perhaps ask you to check please, maybe you do have it? I got the shrugging shoulder… OK, well then just a sparkling water for me then I guess… Four drinks + one sandwich = +£30. I think The Lord Stanley is A-OK if you just bear in mind to look passed the ‘fancieness’ they’d like to portray and consider it to be just ‘a pub’ and be prepared to pay more than you expect. The PLUS: they have a lovely garden! Really really nice surprise!

I live locally to this pub and have been many times. A great place to share a beer, and a nice beer garden for the summer, but do NOTEVER eat here. Having said that I have dined here many times with the food ranging from ok to not very nice: Over-priced fatty steaks served as prime cuts, the pasta is sometimes not too bad and occasionally the fish is edible. However last weekend(after promising myself never to eat here again) I saw oysters on the menu and thought, wow, these guys have upped their game. Maybe they’ve changed chefs — and the steak is even more expensive, so maybe they’ve finally started buying some nice cuts. I ordered both immediately. They oysters weren’t the most pleasant, but I was mainly(and stupidly in hindsight) more disappointed with the steak which seemed to be cut from the cow’s knee. or possibly just above the hoof. Whatever it was, there was more ligament than meat and I left half of it on the plate. Unfortunately all of this ramble is leading up to the fact that I spent the next 3 days in bed with food poisoning(presumably from the Oysters). I wrote to them to tell them what their food had done to me and I’ve still received no response. Hopefully this review will stop others from making the same mistake as I did. If you decide to go anyway: definitely do not eat the oysters. Only an idiot would do such a thing at a 3rd rate establishment anyway.

The Lord Stanley… you are ok. The menu appears to have some spunk, but the actual results are a bit disappointing. The roasted sardine and onion dish was tasty, but the onions were so tart they took away from the fish. I also had the pigeon risotto and was similarly unaffected. Both dishes lacked the extra flair to make the meal truly memorable. :(

It’s nice to be able to update a review and upgrade a rating. They deserve it, too. Gone are the surly staffers who poured you a pint and made you cry. They’ve been replaced by nice and reasonably engaging people. The food’s much improved as well and is now tasty and well-prepared. I consider the Lord Stanley a great addition to the neighbourhood.

Love this local gastro pub, nice civilised crowd and good wine selection. I always have trouble with the menu because there are always at least 3 options I want!

Nice layout. Some staff nice others sometimes rude. Food also good and sometimes lacking. Steak is amazing though.

I came here twice in the summer of 2011, to have a coffee before going to the theatre upstairs. I thought the bartenders were alright, even if the service was slow. The bar itself is invitingly spacious and gets a lot of light. If you want a relatively quiet pub in Camden Town to have a chat with someone, this one seems pleasant and relaxed. The crowd seems to be random locals of various demographic groups, but generally thirtysomethings.

The food here is top notch. Seriously the best steak and chips I’ve ever had, and the standard of the other dishes we had between us was excellent! Otherwise it’s a very nice place: good atmosphere, the décor and the building is lovely, good crowd, good and interesting wine list. The only negatives are the small real-ale range(albeit well kept, but this really isn’t a drinkers pub, which is a shame) and the slightly off service, which wasn’t bad but we never felt we were looked after or that any of the people serving were that attentive, it was hard to get service at the bar(e.g. no one else waiting at the bar, the sole member of the staff fiddling with something by the till for a good few minutes without even the occasional glance around not good!). Shame, but I’ll be back despite that for the food!

Nice all-round pub in an area where high standards of comfort and style are not always easy to come by. It’s just of the main drag of Camden Road and well worth the short walk if you’re local. The bar is equipped with friendly locals, a decent wine selection and a seasonally changing menu with some interesting and ambitious dishes. Could do with a few more veggie options, but clearly that’s not fashionable these days… [EDIT: There were TWO whole veggie mains on the menu this weekend, without a boring risotto in sight — as well as one excellent starter. This is a huge improvement, and I was happy to stay and eat for a change! More like this please!!]

This review comes with a disclaimer: I was not the unfortunate soul that experienced the rather disappointing Sunday lunch at The LS, it was my handsome flat mate and occasional sex pest Tommy. I will be writing as his proxy. «I went for Sunday lunch at the reputable LS pub on Sunday July 25. Sunday lunch is a hefty £20 for a shared meal — usually half a chicken, roast potatoes, mash and vegetables. Food a plenty for two. However… On Sunday evening(when I was particularly hungry from a 120 mile cycle) the food was distinctly poor. We were presented with a half a dry chicken, tasteless mash that looked like processed baby food and some limp cabbage which constituted as the normally „plentiful vegetables.“ Disappointment didn’t quite cover it. We complained and were given a portion of chips… hardly a suitable substitute for a 20 squirrel meal. To sop it off the service was unwelcoming and complaints were received with a ‘couldn’t care less attitude.‘ Two of my fellow bike riders had dessert, chocolate cake, which was also fairly tasteless and unappetising. All in all a massive let down from the LS.» So there it is. Judge for yourself. I can only hope your experience is greatly more comforting than young Tommys.

A great place for lunch or evening meal. Excellent food, well above standard pub grub and all cooked in the central open bar /kitchen area. As a pub there are few to match it in the area

The Lord Stanley is a lovely Gastropub situated in the less explored areas of Camden and It is this residential feeling that gives this place its added charm. Inside the pub is spacious and well lit with an open kitchen in sight. The food has always been of the highest quality if not a little pretentious and, as a result, expensive. Having said that I have never walked out feeling I overpaid for my delicious steak or burger. Though I am not a fish man my friends say the Haddock was excellent.

The bar was nice, the drinks were pretty much the same as at most British pubs… but the thing that gave it 4 stars were the chips and garlic mayo dip. Oh. my. stars and garters… I love garlic, i love chips, and drinking a glass of vino with these amazing bits of heaven was the friday happy hour epitome of the month. I would agree to come back here just for these. Also, the hummous and bread was amazingly good, and I usually don’t like Hummous! Not sure on the costs as my coworkers bought it(I just helped eat it, bwahahaha) but so worth whatever they paid for it! The layout was nice and it was filled with afterwork types… well, after work!

Really good food, nice and open layout, and very friendly staff. The paté starter was good. The lamb steak with roasted root veg was excellent! Finished off with the chocolate, pear and rosemary tart with clotted cream. It was so different and wonderful. The rosemary was a real surprise and very delicious! My friend enjoyed his food very much as well and the brown sugar meringue with passion fruit was delicious! I would recommend this place for sure. Good beer selection and a good neighborhood vibe.

After a fairly challenging day yesterday I went straight to one of my favourite pubs around Camden — The Lord Stanley. It is a lovely, relaxed athmosphere — with an open kitchen and a bar staff that smile(something that I personally rate highly, especially after a smile deprived day). I guess you would call it a gastropub but without the pretentious pitfall of the wannabee foodie. The food is lovely — their starters are great, normally there are about 5 – 6 on the menue. I tend to order a selection of them and mix an’ match. The prawns with alioi are yummy(please buy mints for the day after, though) and I was quite impressed by the minted peas and chorizo dish, too. The starters range between £4,50 to £ 6,50 and are plentiful. Mains are a nice mix of homely and tasty(the rabbit stew with ale knocked us out — all we wanted was our cosy bed and passive entertainment. So do not try that in advance of a night out in Camden) And if you only want something to soak up the alcohol, try their spicy hoummous with bread — hmmm. Its is a real mix of people there — which is fab for the people watcher within you. Nobody is particulary phased if you come in over– or under-dressed. Good selection of ales and wines. Go and try it and let me know how you liked it.

Seemed like a substandard Gastro pub to me. I didn’t eat so cannot comment on the food but while I was pleased to see a couple of ales on tap, they were hard to get to due to the service. I guess the food is very much the priority here as they seemed to have a lot of staff buzzing around, but only 2 dealing with drinks orders. The layout around the central kitchen/bar area suits a restaurant better than a pub too because wherever you are sat in the room, you can’t see most of the other patrons. They consider themselves traditional with a twist and I guess I can see what they were aiming for, I just think the twist is too great. There is a walled garden area that I didn’t see(too cold) but might be worth a look in the summer.

This pub placed near Camden Road became a good gastro pub not long ago, but that was just the beginning of the end. The place itself is fine, with a quite large beer garden and a nice ambient, and with a good selection of courses and wines. The problem is the staff, that not only gives excessive priority to the people who wants to eat(what’s the matter if you are just thirsty?) but it’s also quite rude and disrespectful. The waiters are OK, but the people in charge treats you like you owe them something, despite being an usual and going with big groups of people. It’s really a pity, but the nice place is not worth feeling that you are bothering them.
