The Hideaway

A unusual venue that really is hidden away between Tufnell Park and Archway, we would have never have known about it if it wasn’t for the Taste Card.
The good: the cocktails are huge and during happy hour (5−7pm) it’s two for £10. I quite liked mine, however my friend found hers a bit on the sweet side.
The pizzas arrived a bit misshapen and I found mine tasted a bit strange, but this may have been to do with not usually eating chorizo on a pizza. I felt there could have bee a bit more topping, however my friends looked a bit more appetising with green leaves on top.
The service was good and the atmosphere was enjoyable, I would definitely go back for a cocktail.

I thought this bar was A-​OK.
I popped in with Gemma M, just in time for happy hour. We used a tastecard, so it was a total bargain (£11 each for cocktail + pizza + tip!) But even without a tastecard, it would still have been really good value.
The staff were really friendly and my pizza was nice (not the best… but I did enjoy it!) I liked the sound of lots of the cocktails, although the one I tried was a little too sweet for me… It wasn’t bad, but I couldn’t drink two cocktails with that level of sweetness!
So…all in all, it is nice to know that the hideaway is here, especially now I’ve seen Carrie B’s review about the outdoor area in the back.

I have to admit, I’m shocked to see so many reviews (yes, even though it’s only 5 reviews!). I’ve been to this bar twice now and both times there were less than 5 other people there! I guess it really is a Hideaway…
I love the outdoor area in the back — it feels so secluded from the rest of London, almost like you’ve been transported to a little village somewhere. It’s almost like you’re sitting in a house with a roof made of leaves with the sun poking through and a graffiti’d mural on the walls. It’s very pleasant. Last time I was there, we brought a few board games and a small group of us just hung out outside playing and having a couple of pints.
Speaking of pleasant, the staff. They’ve been so lovely both times I went — even though the first time I went I only had a glass of water. They’re accommodating with the food, and quick to make conversation if that’s what you’re looking for.
The food is decent. I’ve only had pizza and flatbread, and it’s good. It’s not stand out. It’s not tantalizingly delicious. It’s pizza. At a bar. But a bit more gourmet than your average bar pizza fare — they have artichokes! Courgettes! Yum! And on Sundays, it’s 2 pizzas for 12 pounds — not bad!
I don’t think this bar is worth a trek, by any means. But if I’m in the neighborhood (which I often am), it’s a great place to walk over to and spend a few hours.

This quite a nice little bar, quite cosy for a shop conversion.
They had a couple of lagers and London Pride from a barrel at the back (although they were not actually sure what was in the barrel and had to ask someone else).

I’ve been meaning to check this place out since I got a coupon for a free mulled wine in December. I never ended up using the coupon but it’s a quick walk down the street from us and we wanted to try something new to meet friends for drinks.
It was completely dead when we arrived around 9 pm but the bartenders explained it was rare. It picked up a lot after 11 and the main floor was bustling. The crowd seemed like our crowd: people in their mid-​twenties in groups.
The drink prices were excessive for the location. It was around £8 for a pint of Becks and a [house] gin and soda.
The music was very hit and miss;. I appreciated the volume was really reasonable until about 10. Before our friends got there, we played a variation of Scrabble (that we brought ourselves) and it was quiet enough for that. And then when our friends arrived, it was a good volume for talking and catching up. It got a louder around 10 but was still fine for drunken conversation without having to yell too much.
Overall, we’ll probably go back if we’re catching up with friends in our neighbourhood, despite the prices. Aces and Eights is still our staple but is too loud for a group conversation. I would like to go back during Happy Hour for more reasonable prices and to try the food!
editing to add: I also just found out they accept the Tastecard Sunday-​Thursday, giving 50% off food orders, so I’ll definitely be back. Just during their 5 – 7 happy hour next time…

Good pub for a few midweek pinties and some pizza. My girlfriend and I are vegan and they were happy to make us cheeseless pizza but when we asked for mushrooms instead they charged us extra? Loose a star for that :)

Love this bar! Great selection of beers and the cocktails are yumm. Nice having happy hour and special offers on certain days. Every time i’ve visited had a great time and fantastic pizza too! Great local bar, thoroughly recommend!

Lovely little bar with great pizza and friendly staff. After a recent refurbishment the downstairs club is excellently sound proofed and nicely decorated, the outdoor smoking area at the back is a lot more pleasant than I expected.

Hmmmmm what can i say about this pub… Firstly its a freakin trek to get there so if you dont like hiking or busses then give it a miss. Secondly its way too small.
Now dont get me wrong im not a smallist, ive never harmed a munchkin and i love intimate venues but come 9 o clock on a friday this place is basically the equivelent of a rush hour tube with a bar. Lots of sweaty and might i add on my visit unattractive people trying to contort themselves into a position where they can raise their glass to their lips before being bumped into AGAIN and spilling their drink everywhere.
This however was one of the highlights as i was also was subject to one of the worst comedy (and i use comedy in the loosest sense of the word) nights ever. The Standup and coming gong show basically is a platform for standups to showcase their material on the way to superstardom, but on the basis of this turnout you wont be losing your favourite waiter /​bartender to the dizzy heights of fame anytime soon. It being a gong show we could have got rid of these chumps much sooner simply by raising a card to brand them unfunny but sadly very few had the courage to dispatch these gagsmiths.
The worst part was that nearly all of these comedians thought they were great despite barely raising a titter during their six minute stint.
im generally a positive person but after 45 minutes i was scanning the room looking for sharp objects to injure myself with to end this unfunny suffering — we were barely half way through.
The only saving grace of this place is the garden and the food. The garden is lovely with a mexican mural on the wall and vines growing overhead and with an icecold corona you could almost be on holiday. The food is pizza with a range of delicious toppings all made freshly on the premises.
If you come in the summer, kick back in the garden with a beer and a pizza and leave before 7:45 this place might just be worth a visit.
Just stay away from the «comedy» i managed to avoid self harming… you might not be as strong.

Huzzah! Something to write home about it Archway! I don’t want to be accused of having it in for Archway– I recently wrote a review of a gift shop across the road mentioning my lack of enthusiasm for this corner of London. But I’m of the belief that honesty is the best policy and I doubt I am alone in my feelings towards this neck of the woods. But the Hideaway makes it worth stopping off on your way through. Late license, live music, cocktails (rather more of those to choose from than draught beers but who am I to complain when there are plenty bottled choices to be made?) and yum delicious, light and crispy stone baked pizzas. Someone got out the right side of bed when they thought this little enterprise up. So if you like pizza, live music, great booze and having the time to enjoy it then get your behind to the Hideaway to discover that all good things really do come in small packages.

One of Archway’s highlights in terms of nightlife! This cosy wee bar is perfect for intimate drinks and chats, not to mention a good selection of bottled beers (bigger than some bars ²⁄₃ times the size) and great original music.
I’ve seen a few acts play downstairs here and it’s the ideal place for it, small, nicely lit and intimate — perfect for great acoustic music plus it was all original (no bad/​dodgy pub covers!). If you’re in Archway go here, try the music and a new beer. Watch the Duvel though… for a small bottle it’s deceptively strong ;)
