Solid pub food… a bit pricey(but its London right?) Was walking around the neighborhood, stopped in for a couple of pints and some fish and chips and it was quite good! Worth a visit if you’re near by!

More like a grand dining room than a bar. Crazy nick jagger lip toilets. U probably have to go to believe. Bar staff not the friendliest but it was late. Lots of animals on the walls uncertain green activists would like it although I believe they were fake. Beer appeared pretty good. Some normal ales on tap and an ipa.

We came here for a Sunday roast dinner. It’s a cool traditional pub with an awesome interior — the foxes ass particulary stays in mind. I ordered the veggie roast and wasn’t blown away but quite satisfied. I loved the Yorkshire pudding and found the homemade mint sauce and horseradish remarkable.

Amazing little find that I found on a walk around the area a couple of years back! Just popped by there the other day and was reminded of its excellence because of the décor and experience bar staff! The place has lots of great historic decorations and lots of stuffed animals & rustic kitsch about the place. Great for families and Sunday pints alike and the food is incredible! Can get very busy though but if you get there early, you’ll be able to snag the chesterfield at the front!

Classic pub, classic roast. We were looking for a nice spot for Sunday dinner and found it here. It’s your usual pub, with pub atmosphere and pub noises(the hustle and bustle of London.) They didn’t have a real table for us but they did have a small table with a couch so we sat there. We ordered the roast and it was good, but not great. My beef came with a big yorkshire pudding, which was sadly burned, but the potatoes and veggies were excellent. The lamb was a little too fatty but if you cut it out, the rest was nice. The service was only OK. We had to ask a few things for things like drinks and sauces and our bill. But it’s fine, we weren’t in a rush and they were very busy. Sit back, relax and you’ll have a good meal.

Absolutely lovely place to to dine and have a few pints and a meal, especially on a sunny day. The outstanding item for me was the Sunday veg roast: it was the absolutely **best veg roast dish*** I have ever had. No standard boring old nut roast here, oh no. No more back seat status for this dish. Instead they served me a delectable concoction of glazed carrots, grains, and chopped vegetables, the likes of which I had not tasted before. My companion had the lamb roast which he would have preferred cooked as requested medium rare, instead of medium as served. However after the initial grump he ate it all, demonstrating it was acceptable in the end. The interior is scattered with funny but comfortable mix of odd objects d’art — knick knacks, stuffed animal heads, art deco lamps, and a huge late Reanissance painting in the rear seating area you will swear the eyes of which move with you. It’s all very chilled and comfortable. Staff were friendly and efficient, taking our drink order immediately and serving them fairly quickly, considering it was a crowded Sunday afternoon. I’ll return for more.

My love for this place begins with the fact that it’s called ‘The Hemingway’. I can’t say that the man himself would approve of a slate grey gastropub, a classic British symptom of gentrification but hey… That’s neither here nor there. The hallmark offering of establishments like this one are cask ales, scotch eggs, big expensive burgers and fancy chips. Alright so there’s much more to it than that but I can’t possibly eat every single thing on the menu now, can I?(I can… But let’s not get into that for health and safety reasons…) I came here one dark and dreary weekday evening needing a pick me up after an unexpectedly long day. Naturally this meant I had a hankering for an IPA and scotch egg. Doombar was my saviour that day and the scotch egg, with its gooey, golden centre was the star upon which all my wishes will be made in the years to come. After watching the place fill up as the evening went by, drinking more than I had planned, I found that I couldn’t control my food envy any longer and just HAD to have that beef wellington the guy next to us was tucking into. Thus all my hard earned cash was lost in a moment of gastronomic weakness. The dish however was beautiful beyond what the Ancient Greek poets could express and so I won’t try, but I will say that I’m glad there are people in the world who appreciate the fact that a beef welly does not need to make a single annual appearance as the centrepiece of a Christmas party. Thank God for that and chips on the side please. Great experience. Grateful it’s close enough to walk to but not close enough to be my local as I would literally go bankrupt.

I had Sunday lunch here and it was also my first time hanging out in Victoria Village. First of all, I instantly fell in love with this part of London. It’s a low-key, unpretentious area with lots of unique bar/food joints. Lots of people and their pets chilling everywhere, enjoying the social ambience. If it’s a nice day definitely walk around; we came through the park to get to this pub. The pub is a great place to meet up when the weather’s nice. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the sun with full glasses of prosecco. Our friends ordered chicken, my boyfriend got the lamb and I got the fishcake and sweet potato. All were absolutely amazing. Quite filling too because I couldn’t even order dessert, which for me is completely abnormal. Definitely check out their interiors because it’s a beautiful space with lots of dark woods and comfy seating. The toilets are awesome, it feels as if walking into some homey room with funny erotic art and funky wallpaper. Would love to come back and try their dinner menu!

Since the Hemingway opened a larger, crazier sister pub nearer to me(The Hunter S) I haven’t been here much. But last weekend, I needed a pub near a park with good food so the Hemingway seemed like the perfect choice. I was able to book a 6 person table for 4pm on a Sunday but told I can only have the table for 2 hours. Now to me, this seems to be the opposite of what you want on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Not that we were in any way rushed but this time limit of 2 hours did loom over us, especially as we’d ordered the beef wellington(almost identical to the one at the Hunter S) which has a 45 minute wait. Anyway, we were asked if we wanted desserts — I said yes(as usual), others said maybe and one person said they’d just like a coffee. Unfortunately, and weirdly, they don’t do any coffees so we decided to skip dessert to go elsewhere where everyone could get what they wanted(i.e. my house with a stop at E5 bakehouse on the way home). I do like the pub but not sure how I feel about the Sunday time limits. It has some outdoor seating, they can accommodate children but it’s bit full of hipsters to allow them to wander around too much.

I’ve just shared a very, very good Beef Wellington here. It was very high quality beef fillet, cooked to perfection, in a crisp pastry. It was served with green beans tossed in little bacon bits(mmmmm bacon), kale, well cooked chips and a Yorkshire pudding. This was the best pub meal I’ve had in a while, and at £19/head, great value for such good quality steak. The pub itself is a nice setting, with some tables outside to enjoy the sunshine. The staff were pretty friendly too. The only negative comment, is they didn’t have any keg ales, which I’m always disappointed with in pubs these days. It was a choice between Deuchars IPA on cask, or some beers like Sierra Nevada by the bottle. With so many great London craft beers around, the beer choice was a little bit disappointing.

The Hemmingway is another ex local drinkers pub in a residential street that has been recently done up and re-opened as a gastro pub. But dont let this put you off(nor it’s slightly off the beaten track location bang in the middle of Victoria Park and Mare Street), it’s a really special place that I highly recommend visiting. It’s all big wooden tables, leather, striped wood floors and modern décor, with taxidermy and other curiosities adorning the walls. Now who wouldn’t want to sip a pint while stating at stuffed monkey heads and Mexican day of the dead artwork? The staff are friendly enough, but provide really fast and efficient service, which is actually a lot better than over friendly, but totally useless hipster barman wannabes. Drinks are reasoninly priced(£6 for double Bombay Saphire is good, beers are European and £4ish a pint, with isn’t cheap, but not terrible either, but far from cheap). Food menus look really tempting, but I didn’t try anything on this visit as I was all about the gin, but want to go back for dinner soon. The back room(a little room filled with a big table, bench seats and an amazingly comfy chaise lounge) seats up to 20 people and is a great place to reserve for a small private party. Toilets are really smart too, and you get classical music piped in to help you pee in a classy fashion!

The Hemingway has been in the neighborhood a little longer than my boyfriend, so I literally can’t imagine the area without it. It’s become my bf’s local pub, and I’ve probably spent more time here than any bar back home in New York. The Hemingway has two faces: pub and gastropub. It really excels at both, which is no small trick. It’s a gorgeous space to get a drink or three and just catch up with friends. There’s board games, big couches, and occasionally a projection screen they bring down for big matches. The front of the space is perfect for big groups, as is the snug in the back. The gastropub menu is smallish(seems to be standard for gastropubs in London?), but there are always changing specials available. The base menu is wonderful, with my favorites being the gnocchi and the beef stew. The Sunday lunch is also really good with all the staples. The dining room is small, but comfortable. We haven’t had room for dessert too often, but the few times we’ve had it, we’ve loved it. The guys who run the pub are usually on hand, and they’re really terrific to chat with. They’ve worked all over the London bar scene and are really knowledgeable and ambitious. I couldn’t ask for a better neighbor – and at least I have the park around the corner to burn off all the calories spent here!
