The Greyhound Pub

Popped after a recommendation and left somewhat underwhelmed.
Am impressive looking menu with some great twists on some favorite dishes except my first and second choice were off!
What do they say «Fur coat and no knickers»! Defiantly suits the restaurant in the hotel. Staff were surely and really could not have been bothered if we had ordered or not and made little effort to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. really just going through the motions. Young ladies with little idea of what service is really about.
Food was unmemorable which was disappointing as the décor and location indicated that this establishment was once something.
Just as we about to leave a new member of staff arrived to clear and engaged with us and appeared genuinely pleased to see us. Shame her contempories could behave the same way.
Return … unlikely.

Have usedthis pub for over 20 years, Sad that my last visit was awfull!
Overpriced wine and food, the roast beef dinner @ £14.50 each was probably one of the worst meals
Ive had misfortune of eating.
Ignored by barstaff to busy chatting amongst themselves, to serve me.
Real shame used to be a good pub, will not frequent there again.

I haven’t been to the hotel part so I cannot speak for that, nor can I speak for the food (except that the menu doesn’t seem very vegetarian friendly). We went here on a Sunday night and it was very crowded in the main room, but we brought our drinks to an adjacent room and it was very lovely and quiet. It’s a bit more expensive than I would like to pay (prefer The Sun for drinks/​prices), but the staff I spoke to there seemed very friendly and he was quite helpful. I would go again sometime, though there are better around.

Great for a meal, a drink or a quiz!

Large pub with several bars and lounges. Pleasantly situated in prime location opposite Carshalton ponds and close to the town centre and several green areas. A large car park to one side. At one time a good local pub/​restaurant with b&b and plenty of character. It had a quiet «over 25s» bar.
Seems to have changed in recent years in an attempt to go ‘up-​market’. Food and drink are now both over-​priced and unexceptional. If you want a drink and a basic meal then you will get better value at any of the three other pubs within 200 metres of it.

I like this pub. There is little doubt that it’s the best in Wadhurst but I always feel it could just be, well, better. They keep their Harveys well, it has a great deal of character and beautiful open fire places, a large beer garden & some interesting photos within. Hell, it even has a stuffed antelopes head with a hook on its nose that you can attempt to toss a ring on to (the ring is on a length of string attached to the ceiling, you kinda swoop the ring onto the hook!!!). Sounds good uh? There is one big problem though: Every time I go in there is a bunch of loudly swearing yobs leaning on the bar. They swear noisily, without consideration and in front of all comers. It’s awful. I’ve noticed this several times. Surely the Landlord could shut them up? If he could, he’d take this place to a new level… with five stars to boot. Let’s see…

This is a lovely pub situated opoosite the ponds of Carshalton. It is a huge pub inside with lots of character. The one room has a modern feel with pool tables and sports tv’s whilst another has a more traditional feel with a real log fire. There is something for everyone. It has a fancy dining room for those going for a sophisticated meal or meals can be eaten in any of the bar ears. The food is fresh and delicious although maybe on a little on the expensive side but the pub is located in Surrey so to be expected. The bar provides a wide selcetion of beverages and real ales.

Youngs pub set in a listed building. Now also a hotel, which has resulted in expensive food, which is not that great consequently overpriced, as well as the drinks it offers. Atmosphere has taken a nose dive recently too since the hotel was built. On the plus side is nicely decorated and has got outlook over the Carshalton ponds opposite.

I was looking forward to stopping here as we stayed here in January or February this year and enjoyed the stay.
It was therefore a great disappointment when we came this time and the place seems to have undergone a complete change.
On arriving at the hotel/​Pub and standing at the empty reception for 5 mins I then toddled to the bar to ask if anyone was available to check us in (5 mins later someone turned up). On our previous visit the rooms where pleasant and clean however this time we where given the disabled room the room initially didn’t smell quiet as fresh as I expected, and it just wasn’t as good as we had experienced previously.
On the evening we ate in the hotel but to spend £100.00 on an average meal Ok it did include a bottle of wine, but I found a bit disheartening, however not wanting to embarrass or upset others I have put this one down to experience as I also did the real ale.
Ok I know us northerners like a head on our bear but even without one I do like a pleasant taste to it (though I am up for education but have drunk a lot better brews down there).
Oh well nice to have tried and lost than not tried at all but will give this place a miss next time. I will have to find somewhere nearby decent because the partners mother and sister live nearby and I need something to look forward to. !!!

Das Greyhound Hotel und Pub liegt mitten im Herzen von Carshalten, einem Vorort von London. Das Hotel, welches gerade neu renoviert wurde stammt aus dem 18. Jahrhunder und war damals eine Postkutschenstation. Die 21 Zimmer sind modern eingerichtet mit TV, Telefon etc.
Im Pub wird Young‘s serviert. Young‘s ist eine Londoner Brauerei mit verschiedenen Biersorten. Vor allem Ale, eine Art dunkles Starkbier, ist eine Spezialität. Aberüber englische Biere mehr in einem anderen Bericht. Mahlzeiten sind a la Carte ganztägig zu haben. In dem großen Saal werden regelmäßig Verkaufsveranstaltungen für Kleidung Schuhe usw angeboten.
Der Salon und die Public Bar werden meist von Einheimischen besucht. Es wird freundlich und schnell bedient. Das Essen ist reichlich und gut. Die Bedienung freundlich. Aber wer nicht im Restaurant sitzt, muß seine Getränke, wie allgemein üblich in GB, selbst von der Bar holen.
Auch hier sind Kinder und Jugendlichew unter 18 Jahren in der Bar ohne Begleitung Erwachsener nicht erlaubt.
