Description

Specialties

The Gate brings exciting, refined Indo-Iraqi Jewish cuisine to Islington. Ingredients are sourced and cooked with care to intensify flavour, resulting in beautifully presented delicious food combinations for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Set against a fine backdrop of high ceilings, original Victorian features, moody lighting, solid ash stained tabletops and industrial steel bar stools, The Gate displays cosy details within a wonderfully comfortable setting. The Gate flaunts individuality along with its vegetarian delights, a rare find in London.

Diners are warmly welcomed by a relaxed atmosphere where they can choose to have a drink at the bar on arrival or be seated ready for their hearty feast. Award winning à la carte dishes feature alongside the new Mezze menu. Weekend brunch (served 10am until 3pm) is also new at The Gate, and the set menu is great value for 2 or 3 courses.

History

Established in 1989.

The Daniel Brothers started trading in Hammersmith in December 1989, knowing nothing about running a restaurant, simply knowing that food should be celebrated. Inspired by their cultural background, they created a menu which blended Indo-Iraqi cooking with traditional Jewish food. Over the years, French and Italian influences have matured their seasonal creative dishes into delicious international cuisine. The Gate has become a successful family-run vegetarian restaurant, recently quoted as London’s most popular vegetarian restaurant earlier this year. Michael and Adrian have produced 2 cookbooks and have recently been nominated for other awards, not to mention the back catalogue of amazing reviews.

The Gate Hammersmith is temporarily closed for refurbishment until 1st October 2012.
