huge portions of chips and good flavor for the fish and batter, plus they let you bring your own bottle. It’s the sort of place I would consider eating at from time to time bearing in mind of course that the food isn’t healthy by a country mile. Cod and chips or plaice(very heavily battered) and chips are probably best value for money, rock is tasty but not as large a portion, haddock is also good but a bit on the fishy side. There are also things like pickled eggs, battered sausages, and savaloys. I once ate one of the savaloys– cant recommend them particularly. takes a bit getting the food cooked but otherwise a satisfying dining experience, and food here does a good bit to stave off cold days and hangovers lunch specials are 3.50 for a smaller portion — honestly preferable to the huge portions of chips at dinnertime

The worst fish & chips ever! The place looks very old and uninviting too. Stay away from it! :(

I’ve never had any success coaxing any friend or partner down to the Flying Fish with me. This is despite the fact that as far as I see it, you can’t argue with a £4 lunch deal(including drink). £3.50 if you eat in — although there’s never much evidence of anyone doing that. Fish and chips is usually too bloody expensive everywhere these days, so this is a welcome throwback! As is the fact that you can get pickled eggs, onions or gherkins here — not that I ever order any of that stuff, for Christ’s sake. My scampi and chips was… well, I’m not going to make any outlandish claims for it, but as I see it, at that price there’s not much complaining to be done.

Great fish and chips and BYO drinks! Got all the favourites on the menu and we went for the shared platter for 2 which didn’t disappoint. Bargain prices and really nice fresh fish in a friendly and unfussy venue.

Had lunch here with B the other day and it was pretty good value at £4.50 for a portion of cod and chips. We ate in the room out back which was fine; comfortable but basic. If you are in the mood for beer or wine you can bring your own with no charge. The fish is fresh and the batter was ok but could have been a little crisper. Chips, while not greasy, were very pale and not that tasty. Not somewhere I would be rushing back to, or would be raving about to friends, but this is a decent pit stop if you need some hearty food in a hurry.

I was pleasantly surprised by this fast food restaurant amongst all the other grotty takeaways, namely fried chicken, along Camberwell Church Street. The Flying Fish offers a variety of fish including cod, haddock, plaice, hake, sea bass, freshly battered to order. Only gripe is the chips. They’re equally delicious, but find myself consistently leaving a handful or more covered in bad potatoey black bits(you know what I mean).

This is a great fish and chip shop. I’ve been trying to cut back on takeaways this past year, but the one place I am happy to break the rule for is the flying fish. Coming home from a hard days work I am often drawn on a detour home via the flying fish just so that I can tuck into one of their tasty cod and chip portions. At £6.00 for a deliciously flakey cod and chip I think the price is reasonable. The owners are incredibly friendly —- if you’re into your football your bound to get decent commentry on the game of the day from the owner as he’s footy mad! This place has a bring your own resturant. Camberwell — you either love it or hate it. Those that love it have got to understand it and its because of local establishments such as the flying fish that add to the character of the place that you grow to love camberwell.

A posh fish and chippy, which is good if you fancy the classic meal with a touch of style. It’s not your average chippy with the usual battered cod option. Instead you’ll find a huge list of fresh fish to accompany the not-so-posh-but-very-good chips. Of course, this all comes at a price, and if you’re looking for more than just chips then expect to shell out over a fiver. There is also a small restaurant out back with a bring-you-own option. It’s often quite empty, but if you’re buying from the chippy anyway then why not sit down too.

One of the best fish and chip shops in South London, which is also an eat in restaurant — a bring your own bottle affair! Quality fish, and a wide range — not just your average cod and chips, try sole, plaice, haddock, monkfish, hake, scampi — even shark depending on availability! They also serve peas, beans, mushy peas, roes, sausages, the whole caboodle. Portions are big, and both fish and chips are not overly greasy. The place is all very clean and hygenic looking. The downstairs eat-in restaurant is clean and comfortable. Not ideal for a date, but good to escape with a loved one and to share a bottle of wine and some good conversation. Quality fish and chip shops are hard to come accross in South London and this one is definitely a find.

This is a great addition to Camberwell Church St: a proper chippy. The portions, while a little on the small size,(2 small portions is bigger than 1 large one), are always hot and the staff are friendly and helpful, and most importantly look very clean! Lunchtime offers are particularly a bargain, with £2.50 for a small cod and chips. The cod is delightfully fluffy and light. Downsides include the terrible trend for charging for sauce and the fact the door is open a lot, so you have to wait in the cold for chips sometimes. There’s a BYOB restaurant I have yet to try, but it again seems very clean and convivial. The Flying Fish is open until 11pm weeknights.
