Having randomly selected the restaurant for a casual lunch on a Monday I was absolutely blown away. The management were beyond convivial and attentive and the watchful eye they kept on their staff paid off in spades. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was great but the hospitality made it memorable… For a Monday lunchtime I could not ask for more…

Really yummy and the redecoration is nice with a new conservatory, meaning it no longer looks like a train station holding area. My starter of aged feta with beetroot could’ve used more feta — it was the star of the dish but not showcased properly. My husband’s main of tagliatelle in a truffled cream mushroom sauce was magnificent — but he was stuffed to the gills! My main of grilled mackerel with lime pickled potatoes and Gerol onions was nice but I found the potatoes(nice and crispy) to be too salty. However, the rest of the dish was delicious and very pretty and the onions were amazing! The service was great and my Aperol spritz was lovely.

I have always been a fan of The Depot, for the view, the food and the service. My last visit once again did not disappoint on a single one of these criterion. I started with a citrus quinoa salad that was delicious as well as a perfect transition to my mussels bathed in a white wine and garlic sauce. I finished with a pan seared sea bass with an Asian twist. Although the entreé was a bit too salty for me, the overall quality and execution of every other other aspect of the dining experience made up for this minor lapse in satisfaction. I would recommend The Depot to anyone who enjoys fine service and cuisine combined with fine views… so I recommend The Depot to everyone.

Our absolute London fave, for an all-round lovely dining experience. The food is always sublime, the service is happy and welcoming and the setting is simply gorgeous. There is something incredibly therapeutic about dining riverside!

This place is so great, I’m more than happy to trek there all the way from Clerkenwell … I went for dinner with a friend to celebrate my birthday last night and after champagne on the house(well, fizzy water for me as I don’t drink) there was a lovely choice of bread… and they even brought me some fruit and nut bread specially as I’d enjoyed it so much the last time. I had an excellent risotto packed with crayfish and roasted scallops and some spinach on the side — I asked for it without the advertised sea bass which I’m not keen on, and they were more than happy to put a few extra scallops on instead. My friend made short work of some roasted cod with mash and samphire and some kind of creamy sauce — I didn’t even get a taste. He finished with a vast slice of moist chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream and raspberries, but as usual I couldn’t resist the sticky toffee date pudding(spoiler alert — there’s a layer of hidden banana inside — yum). I asked for it without the banana icecream but with a satisfyingly large lake of toffee sauce — and it came with a candle on for my birthday… the staff are really friendly and we had a window table with a great view of the Thames. I might live the other side of London but the Depot has now become my favourite restaurant in the city.

Well — from worst(yesterday at Cantina) to one of the best… my friend Jill has long been a fan of this place and since this was her last week in the UK we finally made time to come for dinner. If only I didn’t live the other side of London I’d never go anywhere else — it was fantastic! I rather unwisely decided to walk, in rather unsuitable shoes, from Putney Bridge along the river — a lovely path through woodland — but MILES further than I thought it would be … anyway at least I built up an appetite for dinner. We bagged a table by the window with a gorgeous river view — and they immediately brought round a basket of interesting breads — I made short work of 2 pieces of really excellent raisin nut bread. While Jill had a light-looking dish of seared tuna, I was in carb-heaven with an absolutely delicious crayfish and spinach risotto with seared scallops — they very kindly did it for me without the advertised brill which I’m not that keen on(AND charged me less — how lovely!) Some extra spinach on the side gave the illusion of health — before dessert: there were about 5 I could easily have chosen — but Jill said I would definitely like their version of sticky toffee pudding, one of my favourites. And she knows that I’m quite picky about my puddings. Naturally, this one was just fantastic — rich, packed with dates and some surprise banana(spoiler alert — oops) — and sitting in a veritable lake of dark, thick toffee sauce. Again, they were happy to give it to me without the banana icecream, and with a bit of extra sauce instead. Yum. And the service was really excellent too — the whole package probably why the place was pretty full and buzzing even on an August Monday night. I am definitely going to the Deport again — hopefully on my birthday, so I can get one of those puds again, with a candle stuck on it. Class.

I love this place and for a good year, it was my next door local and often felt seriously spoilt by it. It really is the perfect neighbourhood, rustic brasserie. The setting alone is enough to keep it popular,(cue Thames backdrop). I’m only thankful that a year after living here I made a visit a few days ago and discovered the bar actually had a buzz(yes, unlikely for sleepy, civilised Barnes but true, a buzz). The cooking is fresh, seasonal and well-prepared. The service is perfect and the staff are just plain charming. Fish and seafood are usually incredible including the sea bass & grilled scallops with crayfish, tarragon & baby spinach risotto. All well-balanced. I must confess they also have a solid wine list. Save room for their puddings they make some of the best English standards around including the sticky toffee pudding with dates & banana ice cream, it is gooey decadence. I often stare out the glorious view near boat race end and wish they would just put a damn table outside next to the Thames, instead of outdoor seating on their cobbled courtyard. They apparently are serving brunches and Sunday roasts now which I’ve never tried, but have returned for their weekly 3 courses for £15-bargain!

Always meant to go here after reading a Q&A with some famous actor who said it’s his favourite place. But have passed it hundreds of times when going through Mortlake without thinking to stop. Finally went after recommendation by a rival restaurateur, which is one to take seriously. The room is utterly delightful. We ate at a window table right on the Thames at a particularly lovely point setting sun, rowers, waterfowl a perfect romantic setting except instead of being with a wife, or indeed anyone’s wife, I was with my Aussie mate Mike, a writer over from Sydney, who has a beard. Anyway, the place was a minor revelation. Busy, buzzy even on a Monday evening quite late, we both had terrific oysters and a huge steak and chips with Bearnaise from a simple, bistrot-ish menue. Not an adventurous combo, I grant, but the latter one of the easiest dishes to bugger up, the former the easiest to poison you, especially on a Monday in May, without even an R in the month. Only one possible gripe I’m a chip fascist and despise non hand-cut chips. These were actually very nice, top end pre-prepared I’d say, but, and I hope I’m not being unfair, they didn’t have the feel or taste of the real, made-on-the-premises McCoy. If they had been, this would be four stars, but for a local place, I’d go back willingly. A nice surprise. Also has an attractive outdoor area, but not river view.
