Decent for a pub, nice atmosphere but hard to get seats and was a bit overcrowded.

The place looks nice and it wasn’t too noisy inside. It’s conveniently located right next to the Palace Theatre and other theatres. The food was quite good and so were the drinks. The staff were really nice and efficient. Our waitress even spoke a little French to us when she heard my family and I speaking French, which was sweet. Overall a pleasant experience.

Not accommodating of group requests, flat out no to show the national despite us being ¾ of the clientele and no one else complaining

Not a destination pub, but adequate. We had a nice lunch here. Good beers, good service, very ordinary food.

Have a bit of a soft spot for here! Food is good and the price isn’t bad for central London. If you get a seat by the window there is a nice view out in Soho. Some characters to be seen! Been coming here for a few years, they do a crackin’ pint of Peroni. Nice décor in the bar. The place is nothing special about here really but any time I’ve come for a pint or grub I’ve had a good time. Big shout out for Gary the waiter, top guy!

Nice interior and good selection of real ales. My pint was foul and there’s clearly not much here of idea how to look after beer.

I must say I’m a little biased about this pub. I happened to meet my sweetie there when he worked as a bartender.(he was in between jobs until landing his science gig) It’s situated in a great location on the corner of Charring Cross road near the edge of Soho and a block down from the West End. With such a location it tends to get a large group of after theatre goers causing it to be packed regularly. It’s got a good atmosphere, a pleasant but smallish dinning room upstairs. It’s a Nicholson’s pub number 1 on the Theatreland Ale trail. Unfortunately it’s only good for a pint or two, not long staying as the restrooms are small, cramped and rarely have both in working order. I have such found memories of this place, but with changing management it obvious the staff are not the same page and it’s customer service has taken a hit. It’s a real shame, with the right help this pub could be magical.

I went to the place looking for some good beer and fish & chips and I got exactly what I was looking for. They have a decent selection of beer – local choices and imported bottles. The bar tenders were friendly and the service were pretty good even in the first floor bar. This place has a pretty decent menu and I was happy to see that they have a variety of fish to choose from(different types and different sizes) for a fish and chips. I decided to go for the large hake since my friend volunteered to help eat all the chips. I was expecting a large piece of deep fried filet when I saw two HUGE golden pieces of fried fish appeared on my table – it was a pleasant surprise indeed. The fish was very fresh, moist and seasoned well. It was definitely 9 pounds well spent and completely worth my while. Glad to see the pub living up to London’s fish and chips fame.

My brother and I were in London from the U.S., and this was our 4th stop on the«London Ale Trail». It was in a good location, just north of Picadilly Circus, and although it was pretty crowded, the service was good, and so was the beer.

Came here with some guy friends a couple of weeks ago(november-ish 08) when I was visiting London sans my parents. We popped in the pub slightly tipsy(had gone to another pub down the road that I no longer recall). We decided to pop into this pub because it was raining and yucky outside and have another pint… ****try and beat the rain and maintain the buzzzzzzz****… you know what I mean… The pub was warm and friendly and not über expensive as others in this area, bartender was nice, etc. Would be a nice local pub if I lived near it, but I don’t and last time I was in London we didn’t go here but another one down the road… but all in all I liked it. Wasn’t bad. Wasn’t fantastic but was a nice place to chill-ax after a hectic day with a couple of mates.

This is probably a pub that you’ve walked past many times and not noticed, or entered. It sits right on Cambridge circus, hence the name, and is a huge imposing building. I ventured in here for the first time last spring; I’d been to the bead shop and was loaded up with stuff to make some amazing earring, suddenly the heavens opened as i was showing my friends. We decided to duck in here, have a pint and start making things. We ended up staying for hours! Despite it’s central location and size, the Cambridge has quite a cosy feel. It is full of locals, and real Londoners — no trendy media types to be found in here! It smells a bit rough though. Decent, honest pub, shame it’s located where it is.

A small and lively pub in the heart of tourist central. Falls just on the traditional side of touristy, and you can be sure of getting some good ales here. Tends to have all the major sports events being shown: big screens and Sky Sports. I’m not a big sport fan, though, and — like Phil — I prefer being outside for a drink here. They’re on the sharp angle of two streets which gives them more than their fair share of pavement space, and in good weather there will be chairs outside. There’s a dining room upstairs, though I’ve not partaken. It always seems to be a stopping point for me, a quick pint between Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square, or between Charing Cross Rd and Covent Garden.

Good for a quick pint if you’re stuck out shopping in central london, although be wary of tourists. Not bad for an after work drink either, and some half-decent food avaiable upstairs.

The Cambridge is a decent central pub that is always always packed due to its location right in Soho. The crowd are a real mixture of pre-clubbing 20-somethings, tourists who accidentally landed there, and some regulars. The landlady is a particularly nice Irish girl who always will attempt to fit you in upstairs for food, and doesn’t tend to get irate despite the overcrowded nature of the place. I’ve never been anything but impressed with the beer. It’s well-kept, and they tend to have 3 – 4 guests, plus often a trad cider or perry on draught. Generally it’s better to drink here in summer as you can stand outside comfortably and watch the bustling tourist crowds getting into rickshaws and other such gimmicks. Otherwise, prepared to be bumped into quite a lot…
