Most simply, the dodgiest bar I’ve ever been to. I’ve never ever had to Knock on the door to get into a bar before. The whole thing felt sordid, but oh so cool! It’s a basement bar, with very dodgy door and bar staff. I’ve never really been here sober, so there’s not too much I can comment on. As previously mentioned, it seems to be open — all the time. Even at 3am in the morning when all good sense has long been absent from most people — The Bar attracts the fallen like a moth to a flame. It’s not good for you, but it’s oh so pretty. The bar is quite 60s and very tiny. However, even if you’re the only three people dancing your tits off at 3am doing shots, there’s no judgement — so kudos to The Bar.

Well the name says it all. It’s a bar. Nothing really to set it apart other than sheer simplicity. It’s fairly small, below ground, and tucked away into a little side street. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even bothered except all the usual watering holes in the area had closed(it was about 1am when we hit it up) and we were drawn to the neon sign. Beverage selection is minimal with maybe 3 beers(I remember Corona, Becks, and Stella on offer) in bottles and half a dozen spirits that could be made into the usual wells. No menu as far as I could see. There is a DJ in the corner in his own world but putting out some decent dance tunes. So why go here? Well i) it’s cheap given the area — £3 beers and shots, ii) it’s open past everyone else, iii) it’s simple so you can be your wild drunk self, and iv) why not? Keep your eye out for the dodgy old man outside with a massive camera. He kept making us pose in different setting so he could take our picture. He may have been trying to hit on the gorgeous girls in our group but who knows. Another good question is why we let him photograph us but that’s what several beer and tequila rounds will do to you. I like this place for a night closer as you can keep your buzz going, dance like an idiot(I don’t know any other way to dance), and just have fun.

The Bar has quite a unique atmosphere that you would be more likely to find in trendier areas like Shoreditch or Camden. You usually have to pay a cover of about 4 pounds, sometimes they don’t charge, it seems to depend on the mood of the door staff. The club is tiny, with room for maybe 30 people in total as long as everyone is standing. This gives it a slightly claustrophobic atmosphere, but the music is good and the people are friendly, so you will want to stay, you will if you like 60s music anyway. Not one to go to sober, but I am going to say that about any nightclub.
