I was staying with a large group of others staying at the Roehampton university campus, with limited places to go this was the nearest pub within walking distance to us. The outside gave the impression of a run down bar or either an old man’s pub minus the old man. I wasn’t far wrong there, the pub is cheaper than the one next door but as this one is the cheaper one it attracts plenty of in savoury characters. With the bar area simple enough and a beer garden at the back this should be a pretty good boozer, but there was so many things wrong. The bar area was pretty grotty & unwelcoming, the toilets smelt pretty awful and possibly one of the worse that I’ve smelt in quite some time. No food served here but there are plenty of take always near by.

As a student from the local college this is nearly the only pub that is within walking distance. That said, it really is a local’s pub. I don’t think they like the students trespassing on their comforting territory. Fair enough. I only have been once due to feeling so out of place and unwelcome. However, other students have had better experiences. During the warmer months it’s got great outdoor seating. A whole left wing is used as a dining area, organised and accommodating. The bar section is rather small, but warm. They have great amounts of ale, beer, cider, and wine. For a Young’s, and being nearby it gets the job done. However, I’ve never felt like I was supposed to have a pint there. I’d rather walk to another Young’s The Green Man 6 blocks away because of the better atmosphere. If you’re a student I’d move on to a different pub, unless you’ve popped in for an early dinner or Sunday roast.
