History
Established in 2011.
Bucking the trend, Tapping the Admiral opened after being derilict (under a different name) for 5 years. Originally named the Trafalgar, the new owners wanted to retain the maritime theme but with a unique twist. The new name comes from a tale of sailors ‘tapping’ the barrel of rum Admiral Nelson was supposed to have been shipped back to London in after his death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
While the story is not historically accurate, the term ‘tapping the admiral’, meaning to take a sneaky drink, seemed entirely appropriate for this little backstreet pub.
