working in the area at the moment and well impressed with Tad! have been a couple of times and it’s was very enjoyable. seemed very traditional, fresh and the service was polite and prompt. great for a quick pide kebab roll on the move or a sit down meal from the chargrill.

Great tasting food. Tastes fresh and delicious. Staff at the enterance, which I’m assuming are the cooks and hosts, are great. The waiters/waitressess on the other hand aren’t very friendly. I may be preceiving that because I’m from America and we can be overly friendly lol Other than that no complaints. BTW I had the Iskender and it was amazing :)

Great family restaurant and tasty home food. I’m a regular customer use to visit Tad at least 3 times a week. Usually go for the daily special: the main course comes with salad, rice, bread, marinated onions. The bill is always reasonable.

Good food, good prices. A neighborhood place that does brisk business for locals. If you like Turkish food it satisfies and for those who don’t, there are other options on the menu.

Went into here after a recommendation from my flatmate, I went here for a lunch takeaway and had a shish kebab and also a grilled aubergine dish. The food was cheap at just under 4 pound for each, and it was fantastically cooked, with a great bar-B-Que sauce and the meat was grilled to perfection. The aubergine dish was perfect and as good as any I have had on my travels. Also good for veges as both my flatmates are, and they were more than happy with the menu selection here.

Tad! It’s not a preppy dude with floppy blond hair, Nantucket reds, and boat shoes. It’s a yummy Turkish restaurant with an odd name that sounds like it should be sailing off the coast of the Vineyard. Or maybe Tad means something like food in Turkish. In which case I am dumb(sorry for all the East Coast references, Londoners). Tad stands out for me from all the other Turkish restaurants in the Hackney area thanks to the unusual dishes and the ginormous proportions. We had something called the Yogurtlu Adana, which was a kebab over flatbread, drenched with a tasty tomato-ey stew and drizzled with yogurt sauce. The bread soaked up all the savory flavor and became these delicious little gloopy blobs of yumminess. This dish also came with rice, salad, and a tasty grilled onion. We also had a really good kisir(cracked wheat salad) full of fresh parsley zest and a good-but-not-special-in-any-way hummous. The meze starters came with a basket of grilled bread, resulting in an IMMENSE amount of food. I ate so much I was in a serious food coma afterwards. Seriously, I fell asleep in the middle of work. I guess that’s what I get for doing work in bed after an intense Tad experience. No, not that kind of Tad, that sounds dirty…

This is fav for lunch time, though i have been here a few times in the evening. Good food, bu not as good as Mengal II for evening meals. Local to work, so handy for lunch as they do a great Lahmacun for £1.30. Filling, tasty plus healthy-ish as it’s full of salad n veg, chilli n garlic sauce. Does the job. Nice.

The Tad Ocakbasi Meze bar is one of the classier Turkish restaurants on Mare St. in Hackney. For me it is much more inviting than your avearge Turkish restaurant. First of all, the outside seating is a feature not possessed by many other Turkish restaurants in the area. The orning provides shelter from the often drizzly weather, and the wooden seats are a classy touch and a nice change from the usual tacky plastic outside furniture on Mare street. Expect to receive more food than you think you will get. I ordered the Lamb shish which was beautifully tender. My friend had the mixed grill, which to finish eating is no small feat, he managed to make his way through the abundance of different meats. The shish was around 8 pounds, and the mixed grill around 13 pounds. I guess it depends on how much you can afford, and how much meat you can stomach. The staff really care about your experience, and take the time to have a chat with you. Their interest is genuine, and I did not find the their very personal style of service at all meddling. The Tad is open 7 days a week and is fully licenced.
