St. Paul’s Cathedral

This cathedral will blow your mind away with its brilliant architecture and stunning interior design. Delicate and intricate carvings all over the ceilings (hand carved!!!) and gold ceilings that will amaze you. The most luxurious and also historically religious cathedral I’ve seen. Definitely worth a visit!
There’s some cool statues in here as well (we tried reading the names but they were roped off so we don’t actually know who they were).
It is around £20 per person for touring but if you go on Sundays during service it is free. However there is no tour with the service and no pictures are allowed.
Id love to go during an event or during an orchestra concert just to hear the acoustics in the cathedral. There was an organ recital during our visit on Sunday and it was a great experience to hear it being played in such a massive and beautiful cathedral.
Good gift shop underground as well.

One of my favorite sites I have visited in London. Honestly didn’t expect much before I came and only came because everyone said to go. Am I glad I listened! This place blew me away with not only how beautiful it is, but the history that is held inside as well.
Personally, I think it is worth the cost of admission, and if you are physically able, climb up to the stone gallery at the top of the Cathedral. The view is spectacular!

We were at St. Paul’s for Sankta Lucia in December, 2013, and only saw the main area where the service was. The service and what we saw of the cathedral were beautiful, but we wanted to see more if we ever returned. 2016 provided us with that opportunity, and we are so glad we included St. Paul’s on our tour. We wandered throughout the entire cathedral, and were amazed at every turn. The big treat, of course, was being able to enjoy the views from the outside observation decks on a clear day.
Definitely worth the price of admission!

I was here on a Sunday, when there are no tours available, but I was able to attend a morning service. Since there is no tour, there is no fee to just enter for the service. I sat under the dome in one of the chairs set up. Funnily enough, there was a memorial statue of General Cornwallis staring at me the entire time.
There were very few people attending — it felt a bit odd to be one of a dozen people in this enormous cathedral. They may get more people in for the later services with singing, etc.
You can’t go around to see the tombs, etc. on Sundays, but coming here for a service was a nice experience.

Designed by Sir Christopher Wren and constructed during the period of rebuilding after the Great Fire of London, St. Paul’s is a major London landmark. It’s also one of the most beautiful buildings I know of, and is definitely worth visiting if you’re traveling to London.
St. Paul’s beauty doesn’t just come from its Baroque style architecture: its interior is also delightfully bright. Well, most of the interior: St. Paul’s lower levels are home to a crypt that houses some of the nation’s most respected figures — Sir Christopher Wren himself, for example. Poets, scientists and war heroes also rest in the crypt. And I don’t mean to imply that the crypt is excessively depressing or anything like that, but its beauty is very different than what you’ll find in its main gallery. Whereas other major and older churches often go for simple beauty in their stonework, St. Paul’s interior features artwork and gold highlights. It’s truly stunning to see.
Not only can you explore the gorgeous interior of St. Paul’s, if the weather is cooperating you can make a trek to its Golden Gallery, which sits 85 meters above the Cathedral floor below. The reason this is weather dependent is because the walkways actually lead outside of the Cathedral itself. It’s quite the adventure and you’ll need to be prepared to take the stairs during it, but it provides an absolutely beautiful view of the city below.
That said, based on my experience on these outdoor walkways… well, I’ll let the story speak for itself. When I visited St. Paul’s last the church guides who were there supervising people on the top walkway were practically pushing me in an effort to keep the line behind me moving. Well, that’s great that you want everyone to move smoothly, guys, but these walkways get so narrow that there’s really one room for one person at a time. It’s so high up, that the last thing I wanted was for a stranger to attempt to move me in that narrow space. And I wasn’t moving because the people in front of me weren’t moving, so I really don’t understand what their end game was. Worse, when I turned around told them to please not touch me because I couldn’t go anywhere, the people in front of me happened to begin moving — so the docents retorted that «See? Of course you can move!»
Their behavior was, quite simply, rude. While I haven’t let it affect my star rating too much due to the fact that my first visit to St. Paul’s 6 years ago was much more delightful, I will definitely remember it the next time I’m in London. After all, unlike London’s museums, it costs money to enter their churches and cathedrals — and as gorgeous and special as St. Paul’s is, if you asked me to give another penny to them today I admittedly wouldn’t be in the mood to do so. I hope no one else experiences what I did on the outer walkways. And I hope that the next time I visit, I don’t have the same experience, because I would love to be able to fully enjoy another visit to St. Paul’s again in the future.

Lovely cathedral which I’m sure I don’t need to tell you about. Biggest dome in Europe is certainly worth seeing though!
There is an entrance fee of £15 (which is a fair bit) but for that you get head set and get to go all the way to the dome top as well (not for the faint hearted as it is quite narrow). The church also doesn’t really get money from the government or Church of England so this is really just to help maintain the place (suppose it’s worth it?).
Fun fact: the church height is 365ft, 1 ft for each day of the year (don’t think Sir Christopher Wren factored leap year into it, who knows maybe there is ¼ of a feet under ground too ha)

You must, must visit St. Paul’s Cathedral. If anything, you should go because the free audio tour is one of the most advanced and interesting I’ve ever experienced. It’s truly a «choose your own adventure» type of tour; if you’re interested in music, architecture, the mosaics… you can learn in depth about what St. Paul’s has the offer. Someone’s good investment did not go to waste!
Besides the audio tour, the cathedral itself is obviously very impressive and took my breath away. You will definitely learn something and have a new appreciation for this London landmark.

If you are interested in seeing a cathedral of epic size, St. Paul’s is a goodie.
There is a fee per person to get inside (I think it’s like 15 – 20 pounds) which allows you to get a headset to hear an audio tour should you choose. The done ceilings and architecture is breathtaking. A many step climb takes you to the Whispering Gallery.

The admissions fee for St. Paul’s Cathedral was something around 18 pounds! I’ve been to a lot of cathedrals in Europe, and most of them don’t require me to pay for admissions, let alone a double digit one. Plus, there are no photos allowed in the church, so I just quickly popped in for a quick look, then popped back out. So compared to other cathedral experiences, this one was more disappointing. It would have been cool to be able to go to the top (again for a fee), but it was a gloomy day so I decided against it.

St. Paul’s is a definite do not miss on your London visit. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the dome is a must see. It has beautiful stained glass and you should walk inside to get the full impression. It is also very close to the Tate Modern museum — you can walk.

There was an event going on in the church so we were allowed free access on the grounds but had to pay 5GBP to go up to the top which was absolutely worth it.

St Paul’s is one of the most magnificent old buildings in London with its instantly recognisable domed roof being a significant part of the London skyline. Unfortunately photography is not allowed inside the cathedral as it is still very much a place of worship first and foremost.
Included in the cost of each ticket is the use of an audio guide which directs you to various parts of the cathedral and explains them in more detail. This is a fantastic but it was difficult to follow as it covers the core parts before going on to smaller areas rather than following a logical order. I guess this is so you can decide which parts you want to see over others but I found it quite frustrating.
The magnum opus of course is the beautiful domed ceiling which you can go pretty much right to the top of. There isn’t an elevator so you have to be prepared for the climb. It’s 257 steps to the whispering gallery where it’s said that you can stand on opposite sides and hear someone whispering to you as clearly as if you were standing next to each other. A further 121 steps takes you to the stone gallery where you get your first glimpse across London. The views from here are great but not as magical as from the golden gallery a further 152 steps consisting mostly of open wrought iron spiral staircases which I wasn’t a fan of at all. The walkway of the golden gallery is very narrow so you may have to wait a while before you get to step foot outside but I promise you it’s worth it.

You can climb up to the top of the dome for a great view of London. The admission fee was on the high side (£18 each), however. We got a coupon for buy one get one free so it made it cheaper for us.

London can be a marvelous city to visit. So much history. The monarchy enthusiasm is contagious. The public transport is useful for locals and tourists alike.
In the middle of it all is St Paul’s Cathedral. Iconic. If you go to the top you can experience another Whispering Gallery. It’s a space of 30 meters (according to the provided info) and you can talk softly to each other across it. Architecture at its best is beautiful, functional and surprising. This is an example of all three.

I didn’t take the guided tour (with fees). I used the audio tour (free). It is very very well organized audio tour. You can go by your own pace. Little touch screen device will show you what video to play when you are in area of the cathedral.
The architecture, the history and the statues are beautiful.
If you are ready for some challenge, you can climb up the narrow stairway up to the top of the cathedral… hundreds of steps.

Yes, I will admit that I came here with my family during spring break to do the tourist thing and check out St Paul’s Cathedral.
It is a beautiful church with a lot of history. I would recommend using the headsets to learn about the history of the church. I would also recommend going to the top of the church because you can get a beautiful view of the church and city.
The only sad thing is that I could take pictures of the inside of the church — it certainly was beautiful.

At first I thought I was being ripped off having to pay £18 to enter the cathedral, but at the end of my visit I realised iy was totally worth it. If not for the insight into the history this country and the people who have fought for it, then for the exceptional views from both inside the cathedral and the outside view of the whole of london. The views were spectacular and you can quite easily spend all day in there.
After climbing the 257 steps to the top of St Pauls, I went down to the café that is amongst the crypts and enjoyed a delicious gluten free chocolate cake and tea.
I also would like to say that the staff were very friendly and keen to talk in great detail about the history of each thing in there.

La plus grandiose cathédrale de Londres. Couvrant son dôme, des peintures embellissent son intérieur en décrivant la vie de Saint Paul.
La meilleure façon de les contempler au plus près est de monter par l’escalier se trouvant à droite de la coupole et d’accéder ainsi jusqu’à la «Whispering Gallery». On peut par ce biais, expérimenter le phénomèné acoustique d’où vient son nom. Depuis un autre escalier, on arrive à la «Stone Gallery», à né pas louper puisque grâce à elle, on bénéficie d’une vue plongeante sur la nef.
Pour les téméraires, ils peuvent monter jusqu’à la «Golden Gallery» et au bout du compte, se trouver dans la «Golden Ball» sur laquelle s’élève la croix dorée qui surplombe la city.
Dans l’intérieur du bâtiment sont exposés des monuments et des œuvres d’arts. Les sépultures de nombreuses personnalités anglaisessont exposés au sein de la crypte situé dans le transept sud, que l’on trouve juste avant de grimper les marches qui donnent accès à la galerie des murmures.

Você não precisa ser muito religioso, cristão fervoroso ou qualquer outra opção para visitar a St. Paul’s Cathedral. Muitos vem pela arquitetura, outros para conhecer as «catacumbas», ou talvez para subir todos os 500 degraus até o topo e ter uma vista privilegiada… Não importa sua razão, a verdade é que a experiência por aqui vale a a pena.
Eu não sou muito adepta de pagar um monte de dinheiro para visitar uma igreja, então aproveitei a própria missa de domingo para entrar e conhecer a catedral. É realmente impressionante, e ainda que esta não seja a construção original, já que ela foi destruída durante o grande incêndio, parece ser muito autêntica e especialmente fiel a original.
Se você é um fã de coral, órgão e tudo mais a visita é um prato cheio. Entre no site para saber os horários de apresentação e fique maravilhado com as vozes e com a acústica do lugar.
Se quiser, ao final de sua visita, pode dar uma passadinha na loja embaixo da igreja e levar uma lembrança para a sua vovó, com certeza ela ficará muito feliz.

Eine der schönsten Kathedralen, die ich bis jetzt gesehen habe. Liegt sehr zentral, gut angebunden an den Underground. Nette Caffè’s in der Nähe. Von innen überwältigend groß und sehr detailliert eingerichtet. Nur sind leider keine Fotoapparate erlaubt.

Eine sehr schöné Kirche Londons, die für mich wie Westminster Abbey zum Must-​See in der Hauptstadt Großbritanniens gehört.
Es ist eine beeindruckende und meines Wissens die größte Kathedrale Londons.
Hier traten berühmte Hochzeitspaare wie Prinz Charles und Prinzessin Diana vor das Angesicht Gottes und den Traualtar.

Leinwand. Eine tolle Aussicht hat man von der Kuppel, dieses Mal jedoch real.
528 Stufen, die sich lohnen. Eine weitere Attraktion der St. Pauls Cathedral ist
die Flüstergalerie. Der innenliegende Umlauf unterhalb der Kuppel hat eine
verblüffende akustische Eigenschaft, den Schall entlang der gekrümmten Wand auf
die gegenüberliegende Seite zu leiten und dort zu bündeln. Die geflüsterten
Worte kann man auf dann an der Wand deutlich verstehen, aber immer nur an einer
bestimmten Stelle. Völlig verrückt. So gewaltige Entfernungen legt der Schall
ohne Hilfsmittel sonst wohl nur noch selten auf der Welt zurück. Im Jahr 1981
gaben sich hier übrigens Lady Diana und Prinz Charles das Ja-​Wort.

beeindruckend und sehenswert, 111 meter hohe kuppel;; aber sehr teuer

Très belle cathédrale. Il faut du courage pour arriver jusqu’en haut mais on est récompensé par une vue superbe sur Londres. Donc il né faut pas hésiter à la visiter !!

Optisch für meinen Geschmack wesentlich interessanter als Westminster und was besonders schön ist, auch nicht so überlaufen.
Zu empfehlen ist die Flüstergalerie, die durch ihre besondere Akustik besticht. Auch wenn man leise spricht, kann es am anderen Ende verstanden werden und man guck von oben direkt auf den Hauptaltar. Tip: Von der Flüstergalerie aus geht es noch mal ca. 200 Stufen über sehr schmale Treppen bis ganz nach oben auf die Spitze von St. Paul‘s. Von einem kleinem Austritt hat man einen atemberaubend Blick über London. Man sollte aber schwindelfrei sein.

Sehr schöné Kathedrale. Hat mir persönlich besser gefallen als die Westminster Abbey. Besonders die Katakomben sind zu Empfehlen.

Beeindruckende Kirche, der man auch auf jeden Fall eine Besuch abstatten sollte. Schade, dass leider so viel abgesperrt wird, so dass man sich mit so vielen Menschen auf einem kleinen Fleck umsehen kann/​muss, obwohl die Kirche so viel Platz bietet. Auch zu empfehlen, sind die Grünflächen in der Umgebung für eine gemütliche Pause mit Sandwiches & Co.

St. Pauls ist für Touristen auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert! Englischferne Personen können sich ein Headset ausleihen, um interessante Informationen rund um Kriche und Geschichte zu erfahren. Besonders gut fand ich persönlich die Aussicht, die man von ganz oben hat!!! Dazu muss man an die 300 Treppen steigen, mit zwei Zwischenetappen! Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, meiner Meinung nach hat man eine bessere Aussicht als vom Millenium eye, zudem hier viel billiger!

Deuxième plus grande Cathédrale d’Europe derrière Saint Pierre de Rome. C’est un petit Saint Pierre d’ailleurs.
Ce qui est dommage c’est qu’il n’y a pas d’esplanade ou place devant l’entrée permettant de prendre du recul pour admirer le monument et accessoirement le prendre en photo.

A CAtedral vale a visita! Não só por ser o lugar onde a princesa Diana se casou… mas pela arquitetura e a beleza de se domo. Faça a subida ao topo… são mais ou menos ums 400 degraus… mas a vista é incrivel e inesquecivel!

Die Kathedrale ist eines der Wahrzeichen von London. Die Geschichte reicht bis in die Anfänge Londons zurück und man spürt die Jahrhunderte wenn man durch diese heiligen Hallen wandelt. Sichtbar gemacht haben die Kuratoren die Geschichte in der Krypta. Wenn man vom Restaurant-​Eingang her die Krypta betritt findet man auf der linken Seite in der ersten Halle einen Nebenraum mit einer Videoinstallation. Mein TIPP: Einen Paltz auf dem Boden mit dem Rücken an einer der Säulen und einfach mal die Zeitreise genießen. Es sind mehrere Filme mit verschiedenen Schwerpunkten. Wenn man alle sehen möchte braucht man etwa eine halbe bis dreiviertel Stunde. Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Das beste was ich seit langem in einer Kirche solchen Ranges gesehen habe!!!
Hier die wichtigsten Punkte in Stichworten:
Status: Top-​Sehenswürdigkeit! Lohnt sich ist und sollte gemacht werden. Auch die Kletterei auf den Turm bis zur obersten Galerie sollte man nicht auslassen
Besichtigungsdauer: Man sollte gut 2 – 3 Stunde einplanen, wenn man die Videoinstallation und den Turm-​Aufstieg mitnimmt.
Gute Besuchstage: Bei unserem Besuch war es nie übermäßig voll. Wir haben die Kirche über den seitlichen Eingang zur Krypta (links des Hauptportals) genutzt, da es hier selten Warteschlangen gibt.
Unterhaltungswert: Mittel, es handelt sich um eine Kirche und dafür finde ich es angemessen.
Informationswert: Gut, gutes Prospektmaterial und der Audioguide lohnt sich. Die meisten Infos bekommt man kompakt in der Videoinstallation.
Kosten: Der Eintritt ist für London normal (Erw. ca. 15, — EUR /​Ki. ca. 5, — EUR) Es gibt Sondertarife (Familien, London-​Card, etc.)
Fazit: Eine London-​Klassiker. Ich finde es gehört zum Pflichtprogramm und bietet auch die Gelegenheit in einer der Seitenkapellen einfach 10 Minuten Ruhe zu finden — schön in dem sonst eher hektischen London.

St. Pauls ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.
Wenn man sich kein Ticket kaufen will, kann man einen der vielen Gottesdienste besuchen.
So kommt man zwar nicht in die Gallerien und Gänge, aber man hat einen hervorragenden Ausblick auf die Kuppel, denn der Gottesdienst findet fast direkt darunter statt.
Am Eingang erhält man ein Programmheft, auf dem der Gottesdienst zum Mitlesen abgedruckt ist, aber auch so kann man den Priestern gut folgen, denn sie sprechen klar und deutlich.

St. Pauls ist auf jeden Fall eine Besichtigung wert. Die Architektur ist beeindruckend und es gibt viel zu entdecken. Wer noch nicht zu viel gelaufen ist, sollte unbedingt hoch zu Whispering Gallery und den höher gelegenen Galleries. In der Krypta gibt es ein Café mit Selbstbedienung, das relativ preisgünstig leckeres Essen bietet. Leider muss man Eintritt zahlen, um in die Kirch zu kommen: saftige 11 Pfund als Erwachsener, Kinder zahlen 3,50 Pfund.

St. Paul’s war eine unserer Stationen im Jahr 1994, als wir mit der Schulklasse in London waren.
Wenn ich heute nochmals nach London gehen würde wäre dies auf jeden Fall auch auf meinem Ausflugsprogramm!

Personnellement je l’ai pas visiter à cause du prix (c’est étrange de faire payer une église, non ?) donc je né sais pas si ma note est vraiment objective. Tout ce que je peux dire c’est que vue de l’extérieur il est très beau, il est près de la City, pas loin de la Tate. ll y a un mac donald pas loin, lol. Non on se demande juste ce que cette église qui ressemble effectivement à st pierre de Rome fait en plein milieu de Londres, pas très loin de buildings modernes. J’aimerais bien connaître l’histoire ou les raisons de sa construction. C’est pas courant à mon avis de voir un contraste comme ça. Autour de ce lieu les rues sont très chics aussi et il y a une office du tourisme pas très loin: cela court pas non plus les rues dans Londres.

Detras de San Pedro en Roma es la catedral mas grande que existe, la cupula es inmensa y se puede subir hasta arriba, aunqeu las escaleras sean estrachas y haciendo curvas merece la pena. no es aconsejable para personas que tengan miedo a las alturas.

L’entrée (13 euros) étant tout de même chère, on se contentera de la contempler de l’extérieur, car cette immense cathédrale est très impressionnante. Elle est même visible depuis le Tate Modern, de l’autre côté de la Tamise: offrant une vue panoramique vraiment magnifique. C’est un des monuments incontournables de Londres !!!

Einer der schönsten Orte in London. Nicht nur die Lage der Cathedral, mitten in der City of London und das Umfeld, sondern auch der Bau an sich, lohnt einem Besuch.
Die Ausmaße sind schon beeindruckend und wer sich die Zeit und die Kraft nimmt auch die vielen Treppen zu steigen, kann einen der schönsten Ausblicke über London genießen.
Ebenso ist ein Besuch auf der Whispering Gallery, Flüstergalerie, ein Muss für jeden Besuch dort. Natürlich macht es in der Gruppe am meisten Spass dort queer durch die Kuppel zu flüstern.
Architektonisch hat sie viel zu bieten, Innen wie Außen.
In der näheren Umgebung finden sich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten und schöné Plätze: z.B.:Courts of Justice, Temple Church, Fleet Street, Temple Bar, Millenium Pier, …
Es gibt jedoch nur 4 Sterne da der Eintrittspreis zu hoch ist (wie fast überall in London).

Tiene una cúpula impresionante. La Catedral es preciosa por dentro y por fuera, mas que preciosa yo diria espectacular.
Se puede subir hasta arriba de la cúpula, conocida como ‘la cupula de los susurros’. Y puedo dar fe de que es cierto. Te pones en un lado de la cúpula, hablas susarrando a la pared y ese sonido llega al otro extremo.

Sencillamente espectacular, con una cúpula tan impresionante. Además, está todo muy bien cuidado y conservado. Y se puede visitar prácticamente íntegra, porque se visita desde la impresionante cripta (con tumbas de personas conocidas-​recuerdo ahora a Wellington-​) hasta lo más alto de la cúpula, sí, hasta arriba, subiendo muchísimos escalones, eso sí, y cómo merece la pena! Tiene muchos detalles que observar, y es un sitio que merece la pena pagar para entrar. Tanto debió gustarme que no lo recuerdo como caro, y eso que no recuerdo bien el precio! :-)
Además, si ya estás por la City, puedes aprovechar para subir andando al Monument (que no está lejos) y seguir hacia la Torre de Londres, como parte de un buen día por la City.

Es imcreible ver su imponente cúpula desde lejos. Exteriormente es un edificio fabuloso. Sorprende tambien su fachada trasera.

un monument absolument magnifique qu’il faut à tout prix visiter si vous aller a Londres! il faut monter à pied jusqu’en haut ce n’est pas facile mais il faut le faire le vue de là haut est absolument renversante!

Eine beeindruckende Kirche, doch leider muss man hier Eintritt zahlen, es sei denn, man besucht einen Gottesdienst.

Pourquoi faire London Eye si l’on peut faire St. Paul’s? Bien sûr la cathédrale en soi est déjà très impressionante de par son architecture et de par son côté historique. Mais en plus de ca on peut monter à trois niveaux: la Whispering Galley, la Stone Gallery ensuite et finalement (après d’innombrables marches) on arrive à la Golden Gallery qui donne une vue époustouflante sur la ville à quelques 111m du sol. Par contre à éviter pendant les week-​end à cause du grand nombre de touristes qui se disputent alors la place. Abstenez-​vous également si vous êtes claustrophobes, les couloirs étant assez étroits, surtout vers le haut.
Finalement je vous conseille de vous renseigner quand ont lieu les nombreux concerts, j’étais arrivée par hasard pendant les répétitions d’un concert qui allait avoir lieu le même soir, et l’acoustique est géniale!

Les enfants reconnaissent aisément la cathédrale St Paul pour l’avoir vue dans de nombreux dessins animés: les 101 dalmatiens, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins .Son gigantesque dôme est le deuxième plus grand au Monde (après St Pierre de Rome). L’acoustique y est étonnante: Dans la galerie des chuchotements, sous la coupole, un murmure d’un côté s’entend distinctement de l’autre côté à plus de 34 mètres. Dans la crypte se trouvent le tombeau de Nelson et celui de Wren, son architecte.
C’est dans cette cathédrale que Charles et Diana s’étaient mariés le 29÷7÷1981.

Alle die nach London kommen sollten sich unbedingt diese Kathedrale
ansehen. Sie ist wahnsinnig schön und erinnert ein Bisschen an den Petersdom von der Architektur her. Tip: einen Gottesdienst dort besuchen. Wenn man nicht ganz so lange bleiben möchte, kann man auch leise die messe verlassen. In der Weihnachtszeit werden dort auch Weihnachtslieder gesungen.

St. Pauls Cathedral.
Der große Brand Londons ist eine der wenigen Geschichtsdaten die man sich immer gut merken kann 1666. Und im Prinzip kam dann Sir Christopher Wren und hat alle bedeutenden Bauten Londons auf den Trümmern errichtet, so die vereinfachte Form für jeden, dem die 20 000 bedeutenden Monumente der Hauptstadt zu viel sind — Wren ist im Zweifelsfall immer richtig. Und man fragt sich auch heute noch, wie er die ganze Arbeit bewältigt haben mag.
Allein der Monumentalbau von St. Paul würde eigentlich als Lebenswerk reichen an anderen historischen Stellen hat man Jahrhunderte für solche Bauwerke benötigt, hier waren es gerade einmal 35 Jahre von Planung bis Fertigstellung, und der Baumeister erlebte das Ganze noch mit!
Nach dem Petersdom besitzt St. Paul mit 111 Metern Höhe (kann man sich auch wieder prima merken) die zweithöchste Kirchenkuppel der Welt. Das Hauptschiff ist mit 170 Metern Länge ebenfalls außerordentlich groß, man wollte hier eindeutig Macht und Erneuerung in einem demonstrieren. Das war nach dem verheerenden Brand vermutlich auch bitter nötig, zumal die Vorläufer von St. Paul ebenfalls mehrfach und in kurzen Zeitabständen durch Feuer zerstört worden waren
Man betritt die Kathedrale über das Hauptportal in der Westfassade, durchquert hierbei mehrere gigantische Säulenhallen und erlebt sofort die enorme Länge des Mittelschiffs, das durch wuchtige Doppelpfeiler mit korinthisch gestalteten Kapitellen von den niedrigeren Seitenschiffen abgegrenzt wird. In den riesigen Pfeilern befinden sich tatsächlich kleine Räume, die unter anderem Treppenaufgänge und Sakristeien beherbergen. Unweigerlich zieht es einen zuerst in den gewaltigen Raum unter der riesigen Kuppel, an dem sich der Raum seitlich in die beiden Kreuzschiffe ausdehnt, Hier fühlt man sich ganz klein unter dem hoch aufragenden Dach,. Eigentlich bräuchte die Kathedrale all das schmückende Beiwerk gar nicht, all die mit Gold und feinen Fresken überladenen Decken, die eingelegten Kassetten, die Statuen, die Simse mit ihren reichen Ornamenten diese alle sind faszinierend und lassen lange verweilen, allein der Raum, den dieses architektonische Meisterwerk entstehen ließ, wäre auch ohne den Schmuck überwältigend.
Besonders ist hier, dass man die eigentlich unerreichbare Höhe, die diese Kuppel verkörpern soll, begehen kann. Steile Treppen führen über gefühlte 1000 Stufen auf Galerien, von denen die Berühmteste natürlich die in 35 Meter Höhe gelegene Flüstergalerie ist, von der aus man nicht nur einen wunderbaren Blick hinab in den Kircheninnenraum und die ameisenkleinen Menschen hat, sondern auch die optimale Akustik erleben kann selbst aus 40 Metern Entfernung hört man hier jedes Flüstern von Gegenüber endlich auch etwas, das den Kindern der Touristen hier Spaß macht. Und man kann all die Kuppelmalereien genauer besehen, die sich vom schnöden Erdboden allenfalls grob abschätzen lassen.
Zurückgekehrt auf die Ebene der Normalsterblichen kann man dann auch gleich den Rundgang antreten und die zahlreichen Kapellen bewundern, von St. Dunstans Chapel mit seiner Schirmwand aus Eichenholz bis hin zum Wellington Monument, dazwischen unendlich viele Erinnerungsstätten für berühmte Namen, darunter Lord Leighton (der mit Leighton House), Samuel Johnson (Statue), Nelson (Denkmal) u.v.m.
Man sollte sich dann aber auf jeden Fall in die ausgedehnte Krypta begeben (auch wieder spannender für Kinder, da kann es immer potentiell spuken…). Hier liegen wiederum eine große Menge berühmter Menschen begraben, unter ihnen wer wohl? Ja, immer richtig: Christopher Wren, der sich sozusagen mitten in seinem eigenen Denkmal begraben ließ sein Grabmal trägt denn auch die stolze Inschrift: Lector, si monumentum requiris, circumspice. Beim weiteren gefolgsamen Circumspizieren findet man dann auch andere angenehme Menschen wie die Künstler Turner und Constable aber auch die für England typischen Kriegshelden wie Nelson und Wellington. Zwischen den unterirdischen Säulen herrscht eine eigenartige Atmosphäre, die manchen beklemmen mag, aber eine eigenartige Faszination des historischen Geistes erstehen lässt. In jedem Fall fühlt man sich erst einmal fremd, wenn man wieder in der relativ unverzierten rauhen Welt der Londoner Innenstadt aufgetaucht ist.

Payer pour entrer dans une église … lamentable !
Je me faisais une joie de pouvoir visiter ce monument. Hélas pour pouvoir entrer dans la cathédrale, il faut payer plus de 5 livres par personnes: à 2 ça nous coûtait donc environ 15 euros ! Pour visiter un lieu sacré ! Seigneur, tes voies sont vraiment impénétrables !

A visiter un endroit obligatoire à Londres
La cathédrale fait désordre dans la City puisque le style est complètement différent. Le dome est magnifique, vous entrez par la Nef. L’entrée est de 6 livres. La structure est magnifique, la cathédrale est magnifique vraiment il faut y aller. Allez dans la crypte où se trouve le tombeau de Chrsitopher Wren et Lawrence D’Arabie.

Superbe Cathédrale !
Saint Paul est vraiment à voir ! La cathédrale est superbe de l’extérieur et très agréable avec ses plusieurs jardins tout autour ! Mais de l’intérieur, il faut payer pour visiter entièrement la cathédrale ! C’est le seul aspect négatif, il faut environ 5 livres par personne pour avoir l’honneur de visiter la cathédrale de l’intérieur.

Superbe
Une très belle cathédrale qui est située pas loin de la Tower of London, elle est très impressionante, aussi bien de l’extérieur que de l’intérieur. Ce qui m’a particulièrement impressioné, c’est le dome, qui est je crois un des plus grands d’Europe, il y a une gallerie à mi-​hauteur de laquelle on peut regarder dans la nef, faut pas avoir le vertige !

Belle cathédrale
Belle cathrédrale perdue dans le quartier des affaires de la City. La façade est impressionnante, par sa taille et par la richesse du décor (beaucoup de statues).
