St Mary’s C Of E Church

This lovely church is in my old London neighbourhood. I enjoyed walking past and the days when the congregation held open tours were always nice.
A Grade 1 listed building, the present church has stood since 1776 on a site much older. Although now the location is unfortunately net to a garish modern flat block, some of the charm of the 18^th century remains.
The building is very well maintained and the people are incredibly welcoming. It’s quite interesting to look at all the plaques on the walls and to just enjoy to the calm nature of the place.
As a neat note for an American (or those interested in wartime histories), Benedict Arnold and his family are buried in the crypt. These days there is a stained glass window commemorating this fact.
