St Andrews Walk-in Centre

I’m been sick, not just sick, but can’t get out of bed, my skin hurts, I can see a white light kind of sick — please note I have dramatic tendencies. It hit me Monday and by Monday evening it became apparent that I needed a doctor. I’m in the process of registering with my surgery and they won’t seen me as a walk in so at 6am on Tuesday I stumbled out of my flat to find someone that could give me antibiotics.
I know what I have, I had it so much as a kid that I can diagnose myself, tonsillitis. The white spots are a dead give away. Anyway, I trek all the way to Whitechapel walk-​in centre to discover that they will see me but a doctor isn’t there. So They can tell me what I have but I’ll have to wait around with my raging fever until the early evening for him to pop in. Hells no! After some sobbing to the receptionist she threw me a leaflet for the next closest walk in centre in Bow. She pointed me to the bus stop and sniffing as I went, I dragged my sorry self to Bow.
After much wandering around several council estates in Bow I find the place. It’s not open until 8am so I sit myself outside on the curb. I hope I’m painting a sorry enough picture of myself for you.
10 to 8 and I notice a light on inside. The receptionist is in. I pop my head around the door and ask if she minds if I wait inside. She looks at sorry little me and insists I come in and sits down. Gives me a tissue and a form to fill in and I am first in line to see the doctor. Now this might not seem 5 star to you but after 8 years in London and many walk-​in centre experiences, this sort of kindness is almost unheard of. Normally they won’t let you wait inside, don’t smile at you and sign a lot when you tell them that you know what you have.
Thank you to the lovely people here I got my prescription and was out within an hour. It’s a small, community doctors and they know who their regulars are. A wonderful NHS experience, for once!
