Small little burger joint in Hampstead. There is a short menu but a few good choices to choose from, the burgers are well stacked and have a decent size piece of meat in them. It was really busy during our visit so the service was a little lapse, they didn’t ask how I would like my beef cooked so it was a bit more well done than I’d like but still tasted good. The shakes took a bit of time to arrive too. The chicken burger was breast meat that had been lightly grilled but lacked the taste of the sauce it was supposed to be covered in. The chips were nicely cut into thin strips and were nicely crisped with some of the skin still on. The décor has a modern urban street style and there is background music playing too. Noticed that they also do take out.

I didn’t know what to expect from Spielburger, as I’ve eaten a fair few burgers in my time both good and bad. As you can tell from the line-up of stars at the top of this review, I clearly think that this is one of the better examples — and this is why: When we arrived there was a children’s party going on. It was about as loud and as crazy as you could imagine. But you know what? The staff were all smiles and apologetic about the noise, plus despite orders being placed by the kids for about fifteen milkshakes at once, our burgers came really quickly. Things to recommend: truffle fries are awesome, but possibly even better is their onion rings. They’re delicate little slices of onion in a tasty crumb rather than some big over the top grease monster that you might get from some restaurants. They’re so good that when I return to Spielburger(and I will return) I’m likely to order my own portion of the rings and not share!(Joey Doesn’t Share Food!) The absolute only nit pick I have is that perhaps my burger was a little well done for my liking — but it was still tasty(I had the Swiss, which came topped with swiss cheese and a portobello mushroom). I ended up using a knife and fork on it because it was so big that it was difficult to pick up and eat without making a massive mess of myself! But really good. I’ll sign off now by adding that the staff there are just frankly awesome, from the way they dealt with that party, to how polite they were with us and the level of cleaning they did after the kids left — they are a total credit to the restaurant.

I thought I wouldn’t like Spielburger. I’m a big lover of burgers and have tried them lots of places, and I thought here wouldn’t be great for me. And I was right, I did find the burger to be a bit overdone and dry. We were never asked how the burger should be cooked and it came out so quickly, it was clearly partially cooked before they started. But why a 5 star review? Because I didn’t order the burger and I’m not going to judge it on the tiny bite my husband let me have(he loved his burger). I had the pulled pork and thought it was delicious. No icky fatty bits, not too sweet, a HUGE portion, and topped with a crunchy red cabbage slaw. I’m not usually a fan of a brioche bun but these were really nice and didn’t fall apart and weren’t dry. I had the onion rings which weren’t what I was expecting but SO delicious. They were small rings from shallots and breaded — crunchy and not overpowering. I could have eaten them all day. Husband had truffle fries which were really good, from the one I had. Other plus points were A&W root beer(but it was too expensive at £3.50 a can) and the amazingly friendly staff. We unfortunately arrived at 6pm on a weekday and there were about 50 million loud, naughty children having a birthday party, but we were assured they were almost done by the mum in charge of the party(they weren’t. the noise and naughtiness continued for another 30 minutes). But the staff treated them all so kindly and with respect. Never an eye roll or a sigh, and they didn’t complain that I heard in the 20 minutes it took them to scrub down the 75% of the restaurant the little darlings messed up. Downside? No wifi or phone reception. The horror ;) We will definitely be back!

Came here for lunch as was craving a burger and Spielburger totally hit the spot. The burgers were really spot on and tasted amazing. The fries were tasty as well, we had the truffle fries, sweet potato fries and cheesy fries & we loved them all. The service was just as great. Their milkshakes were amazing and they even had milkshakes with alcohol in it, which my brother loved. If ever in Hampstead and craving a burger, you have to come here!!!

Do not listen to anyone that tells you the Oreo milkshake is big enough for 2. Sharing it would be criminal. Keep it all for yourself. I’ve tried many many burger places over the last 12 months(along with everyone else in London), and it seems I found my favourite on a day when I wasn’t even looking. Spielburger is welcoming, well staffed, quick, reasonably priced, and well located. Right opposite the tube, the specials sign containing the words ‘Lamb Burger’ caught my friend’s eye and that was it, decision made. The staff are really friendly, without being too much. It’s a nice place to watch the world of Hampstead go by, and it was lovely and warm inside on a distinctly chilly day. So far, so good. We each had a milkshake and oh my God, they are unbelievably good. There’s nothing more to say except Have One Each, they are not for sharing(they’re just too good for that). Then came the food — I had the Cheeseburger, and it was absolutely excellent. It didn’t fall apart as soon as I cut into it(VERY important — Stax Diner, take note), the meat was tender and delicious, and the bun was just right. The fries are perfectly done, and I’m assured that the Lamb Burger and truffle fries were both 10⁄10. I don’t think either of us could have asked for anything more. So trust me, burger lovers, leave Soho behind and get the Northern line to Hampstead — Spielburger is where you seek.

For me this is the best burger place in London. And I’ve tried them all… dirty, honest, Lobster, you name it… The burger itself is a 1st place tie with Tommys burger joint but the rest of their food as well as the great buzz and friendly staff makes it a much more enjoyable experience overall. Don’t forget to indulge in their Oreo milkshake(big enough for 2) and home made lemonade

I love potatoes. My life revolves around a good fry. And you know, because I’m a potato lover from Ireland, I know fries*. Fellow burger loving Unilocaler Amanda and I stood in Hampstead one chilly Sunday thinking we really fancied a roast and wondered where to go. Then we saw the Spielburger sign and thought, ‘screw it, burgers it is!’ This place is fun and cool, and I loved their friendly and relaxed vibe. We were greeted by very hip servers wearing Marvel t-shirts who warmly welcomed us and even recommended things they thought we would like. Following these recommendations was a success, I loved the smokey burger topped with pulled pork and the truffle fries. I would have loved to have enough stomach room for the peanut butter shake but it was not to be. We left full and happy and thoroughly charmed by the lovely staff. *Yes, I am mocking you :-) I’m from Ireland, we’re really good at that.

You know why we love the Unilocal app? When you are craving for Truffle Fries in N London, you throw it into the app and out come the gem that is Spielburger. My house burger with gruyère and bacon was wonderful. Juicy with a bit of bite and great fluffy brioche bun. Didn’t fall apart and held integrity throughout(yay!) The sweet potato chips were thin and well cooked, so perfect. On the other side, the chicken burger was huge and the truffle fries– lovely texture with a good hint of truffle but not too strong. Wunderbar!

Good addition to Hampstead… And as others have pointed out — it is one of the best options for a burger in NW. Brioche buns do go well with a burger, fresh salad garnish, thick chunky dry aged beef. It is not bad at all but not sure if it has enough… My burger came slightly under toasted, meat is slightly too gamey… with £7.50 a burger, I thought it needed something slightly more special, lacking that wow factor… My reference would be dirty burger in Kentish town, which is more casual and smaller but juicier and cheaper. Overall, very satisfied and Would eat again but not enough to entice me keep going back…

I first went here with the kids I nanny for a quick and easy dinner after school and couldn’t believe how delicious the burgers and onion rings were– and kids eat for £5! I brought my husband back a few days later and we had truffle fries and the hot burger, topped with jalapeños, guacamole, and cheese. It truly did not disappoint and was one of the best burgers I’ve had in London so far. I love the slightly sweet brioche bun and perfectly seasoned, not too greasy burger. The fries aren’t too thick and have the perfect amount of crunch. On top of the great food, the staff is very friendly and I like the casually cool vibe of the restaurant. I would recommend spielburger for a quick and easy lunch or dinner out.
