History

Established in 1997.

Solid Floor was founded by Dutch designer Eelke Jan Bles. After training at the Dutch Academy of Photography, he worked for 7 years as a professional photographer, before deciding to study Urban Geography at the University of Amsterdam.

Eelke has always been entrepreneurial and set up Solid Floor Amsterdam in 1994 whilst still studying. A student exchange program took him to London and the U.C.L. Bartlett School for Architecture and Planning. He decided to stay and make London his home and in 1997 he opened the first Solid Floor showroom in Clerkenwell.

Co-​owner Rob Weems joined Solid Floor in 2003 and oversees the daily running of the Solid Floor showrooms and offices. He also personally handles all collaborations with leading interiors designers and architects. Rob has helped grow the business and developed new business directions. For example he took charge of our outstanding range of natural carpets and rugs.
