I read about this place in the book«Quiet London» which had some great suggestions about off-the-beaten-track spots in London city. Slightly Foxed is a book store with a neat second section — it’s literally two minutes away from Gloucester Road tube station and is a fantastic place to sit and read or browse to your heart’s content. Great selection of history, travel and literature tombs — they have many fun greeting cards and totes as well. Go see.

This is a lovely little book shop just a couple of blocks from the Gloucester tube station. It’s very inconspicuous and easy to miss. They have an interesting selection of fiction and nonfiction, and it was fun just browsing and discovering unexpected titles.

You wouldn’t necessarily know it by the name — or looking at it — but this is a second hand bookshop with really good taste. The shelves outside the shop are a temporary home to hundreds of books ranging from £1 to 20p. There are also some great deals to be had, especially if you’re bulk buying, 7 books for a fiver. Inside a little more order is imposed and the books are grouped by author or type, classics for example are to one side by the door. When I was last in I picked up a couple of Douglas Coupland’s and a book signed by the author — I’d never heard of either the book or the author before but you never know when someone is going to be pulled back from the dead and into fashion. A great place to stock your shelves if you’re running low on new material.

I’ve been visiting this bookshop for 10 years now, and they always have some books which interest me. Directly behind the window is a good selection of paperback fiction, typically priced at £3-£4. There is also a display of hardback first editions, but I normally head downstairs where there is a good selection of hardback fiction. These books get reduced the longer they have been on the shelves so you can often pick up a good bargain!

I have to confess that I’ve only been inside Gloucester Road books to browse a handful of times. But that’s only because there’s always a tempting selection outside the shop! The bargain shelves vary in quality, but with prices ranging from 20p to £1 per book(and a special offer of 7 books for £5 on the £1 selection), it’s always worth looking to see what’s there! I have found some useful titles there for myself and the library I work in. And you can’t beat the price! Inside you’ll find a very good selection of quality books at reasonable prices. The staff seem to love working there and are very knowledgeable. The window display is always worth a look if you can tear your eyes away from the bargain shelves. There is also a small selection of book related gifts.
