Shoryu Ramen is my favourite Ramen shop in London(right now), so when news came in that there’d be «Shoryu to Go» I was all ears. Today I finally tried Shoryu Go and might I say I was pleasantly surprised. I stuck to my usual and went for the Piri Piri Tonkotsu Ramen(I’m addicted to chilli). First off I love the two-piece pot that the ramen comes in — the bottom half contains the broth and the top contains your noodles and toppings. Upon reading the instructions Shoryu suggest heating your broth for 3 mins in the microwave… This was way too long for me. We don’t by any means have a a powerful microwave at work, but a minute and a half into heating this bad boy blew the lid off! So how was the taste… All good for me! Noodles were just to my liking(chewy) Pickles, Chillies, Spring Onion were aplenty the only gripe I had with the Ramen was the fact that it came with teeny tiny slices of Chashu(so unnecessary). I probably would have been happy with two regular sizes slices than the doll-sized versions they dished out(check my image for a closer look) you may need a magnifying glass. I enjoyed my take-away Ramen lunch on a whole, so if you’re already a fan of Shoryu like myself head over when you have the chance, you just might like it!

I’m sad to be giving this 3 star but I know if I give it any more I would be bias claiming to be Shoryu number one fan. I would give it 3.5 if it’s allowed but I’m hoping on my next return I can give it better. But sadly on this experience certain things let me down. This is Shoryu’s 5th branch now if you include Stratford and it’s previous pop up on Regent Street which is also very similar to this one. It’s Shoryu’s attempt to make ramen possible to take away with a few seating inside along the bar and the window for those who would like to eat inside. This eliminates the service charge which is quite attracting but of course you lose out on the pretty bowl and instead ramen is served in a polystyrene container. But that’s not the problem. Sadly on this visit the broth was weak and not enough depth like the usual Shoryu ramen I’m used to. And with the quick turnover my noodles weren’t boiled long enough so were still quite hard until I reached the bottom of my ramen where the remaining noodles cooked itself in the hot broth. Somehow portion felt smaller too. But the fillings were perfect. I was still given two generous slices of pork belly beautifully tender and soft. My stained egg was also runny and yolky like expected. But for £8.90 for a takeaway you do expect better and more. I actually opted for the ‘Go Package’ where for £12.90(although I paid £10 during soft launch) you get a choice of ramen, a choice of hirata bun and either a coke or a diet coke. And luckily I did as it was that steamed bun that took away all the problems with my ramen. They have really improved their recipe to get that hirata to the level of deliciousness it is now. The bun so airy and creamy and large filled with a very well marinated tender pork belly one could hope for. Nice cucumbers and lettuce in there for that added texture. Next time I might just opt for 2 of these priced £3.50 each as £12.90 is quite dear. There are also packaged sushi and desserts offered which I couldn’t fit in. Although it is a take away with no service charge I actually thought service was very good– chopsticks handed to me and chefs checking if things were okay. A great lunch spot but I really hope I just went on a bad day where the ramen stock was not up to scratch. Also I hope prices can be more affordable, maybe with £10.00 a Go Package a permanent deal.
