Came upon this little place wandering in the back streets. It’s situated next door to its big brother Sardo. Lovely little seating spaces outside to watch the world go past.
The pizza was delicious. Went for the plain, tomato, garlic and oregano on the sourdough base. 10″ pizza at under £5.00 you can’t complain. Crispy base and amazing topping. Ladies who served there were very pleasant and chatted away encouraging and advising customers.
Definitely go back to this place!

The people who work here are so nice and the food so delicious and affordable that I’m frankly shocked that you’re still reading this instead of eating lunch there.

Sardo Cucina is the recently opened café and delicatessen arm of the popular Sardo restaurant next door. In the category of Well Priced Little Italian Deli Lunchtime Takeaways with Seating, I am happy to say I haven’t experienced better.
I’m really surprised I’m the first to review, and gutted that I didn’t have a chance to take many photographs. I went this week for a working lunch and was very impressed. The upstairs has the usual lunchtime takeaway layout, with a long counter and small seating area. All clean, bright and classy, with Italian deli dry goods and bread on glass shelves in the window.
The downstairs seating area I thought was wonderful — very smart and cosy. We sat at an old farmhouse type table, on modern white metal chairs, and the table was laid with a funky seventies coffee storage jar full of cutlery, school-​cafeteria style thick glass tumblers for water. Once our meals arrived, and the middle of the table was studded with four wide, generous plates of the most attractive salad I have ever seen, I was in absolute raptures. It all added up to a jolly, heart warming table scene– it looked like a casual, boho family lunchtime in a cottage of foodies with good design sense.
The menu offers salads (a selection of scrummy components are on offer behind the counter. As well as crisp leaves, there are gorgeous looking Italian antipasti type things — huge slices of marinated aubergine, plumptious mozzarella, a cold tomatoey pickley stew etc). Also homemade soups, gourmet sandwiches and a small daily selection of hot dishes such as gnocci, pasta, meatballs and mash. The cakes looked nice too.
It’s proper restaurant quality food, available to eat in or take away. Kept hot so you don’t have to wait. For such good quality fayre, I was surprised by the prices — most of the hot dishes were around £6 to eat in or a fiver to takeaway, and the soup was about £3 I think.
I had the tender pork medallions (topped with a little spoon of soft Italian veg stew) with a slice of deeply cheesy potato gratin. Lunch heaven. Dainty portions of comfort food in lovely surroundings.
