The café sits nicely on Muswell Hill high street welcoming any customer who wishes to have a coffee, a big slice of cake or a fresh panini. The coffee was large, affordable but nothing too special. However, the café made me feel at ease and comfortable. I had a pain au chocolat which was large and wholesome but didn’t taste like an original one. Still yummy! I have to say the service was really poor and that’s why mainly i’ve given it 3 stars. Pop in if you’re walking past definitely!

Oh coffee and cake … or cake and coffee … what a delicious combination. This café is not far from the busy high street in Muswell Hill and it is amazingly nice and because of that amazingly busy. Not really a place where you can sit outside, but they have two very nicely decorated floors inside. They offer a wide range of savory and sweet treats, from crepes, over to eggs in many nice variations, plus super delicious Brownies, cake and other great baked goods nearly everyone will find something to eat or nibble on. I could not resist taking home a brownie, which was dense, chocolaty, sugary and delicious … mhm …

Views of Parks, Walks, Gardens and Flowers from Muswell Hill to Finsbury Park at The Stable D’or. Oil Paintings by Annemarie Langhard and Ben Baker. Annemarie and Ben attended Hornsey College of Art from 1960 – 66. They married in 1964. Ben’s paintings are of views of roads, gardens and parks. He catches the changing mood of the weather, light and place in a way that reveals the excitement of his experience. Annemarie comes from a Swiss farming background, the love of nature and the seasons has never left her. She has a love of gardening and out of it comes her observations of shapes and colours, inspired by trees, fruits and flowers. They have held various exhibitions together in the UK and Switzerland. This is a really beautiful collection of paintings, showcasing the very best Muswell Hill and Finsbury Park has to offer. There is also a scrumptious variety of cakes and snacks on offer at the patisserie so you can relax and enjoy taking in the beauty of your surroundings. A selection of Ben and Anne’s works is being shown at The Sable D’or Patisserie in Muswell Hill until 1st May 2011.

Friendly stylish café. Great to hang out in to grab a latte, eat one of their salmon and cream cheese pancakes or just a latte. I like to sit read the papers and draw a cartoon or two there. Lots of other media types, Muswell Hill greenies, mums with kids and some of the artists who hang their stuff on the walls. Problem is… doesn’t stay open in the evenings, and it’s certainly not cheap… but is cheerful.

Great coffee and macaroons. Sable D’Or is a good looking café in the middle class ghetto that is Muswell Hill. Serving up great coffee and the oh so popular little coloured fancy macaroons that the french, allegedly, love. This trendy high ceiling café features as my first, only and so favourite coffee house in old Muswell Hill. I also have sampled the cooked breakfast which was OK but nothing exceptional and my wife’s crêpe with seasonal fresh fruit was also OK although the knife that they’d been chopping garlic with was used on the fruit, interesting flavour! So it 5 stars for the coffee and macaroons but one star off for the non exceptional garlic flavoured strawberries. I shall return.

I only recently started working in the area, but Sable d’Or has very quickly become my favourite place to stop for coffee or a bite to eat! All the staff are very friendly and service has always been very good. With their healthy but tasty menu, combined with a great selection of fresh juices and smoothies, I would strongly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxed meal.

I was in London from September to December 2006. 3 times a week I was commuting to work by taking two buses. That’s right two not one, and buses not subways! The only thing that made that commute alright was Sable Dor Patisserie in Muswell Hill. It was right next to the bus stop and while waiting, I’d run in and grab a pear torte. Glazed pears on top of a soft cake surrounded by a crispy crust… Grab extra napkins. Don’t know if it was the cold or the wait, but it was the best pear torte… no, the best torte… dare I even say, the best pastry I’ve ever had! Fair warning, this was the only thing I ever had, so it’s 5 stars just for the pear tortes!

This is my favourite coffee shop in Muswell Hill. It has lovely food — does gorgeous crepes, freshly baked breads, croissants and brioche, and all manner of gorgeous cakes. Its coffee is great, although it was a bit of a disappointment when they stopped selling coffee in the large cups and went all standard size. It gets really busy at week ends but there’s seating upstairs(which feels slightly more intimate than the downstairs) and displays works on sale from local artists. They seem to have a high turnover of waiting staff but all we’ve come across are very capable and friendly.
