I really enjoyed Roadtrip. Having skimmed some of the reviews, I gather it has a very different vibe at different times of the day, so this review is limited to the weekend(Saturday) late night version of Roadtrip. We were at cornershop earlier in the night and ambled around for a bit after that shut. Most other places were shut/full/too intense and a friend suggested Roadtrip. It’s a fairly small place but easy enough to get to the bar, and average(for the area) priced drinks. There was a decent level crowd when we went it, but by 330 it was packed! They have a few couches inside, and almost everyone was dancing such that if you wanted to sit you could. Fun music selection — general upbeat electronic(mostly housey but not limited to that genre), good crowd, and open till 5am in an area where most places shut down annoyingly early. Definitely worth checking out. As an added bonus they have quite a chill smoking area outside. It’s heated and just pretty cozy somehow(probably because it was perpetually quite crowded from around 330).

After being searched and having to show ID, my impressions of Roadtrip remained glim. It tries to model itself after an American diner with the flare of Fenzie and Grease. I get it. Rock and Roll. Bathrooms need to be cleaned more readily. For a crowded place, a bathroom attendant could go the miles. Drinks are priced as they should be. Get ready to sing your heart out to oldies.

This was the second pub for us on this particular Saturday night pub crawl and also we were told we will have only one drink, somehow we got stuck here longer than was comfortable. First we had to show ID and our bags were looked at when we got in. Really? For such a mediocre place? Secondly the bar in itself is rather dingy and smelled … not very nice. Third the toilets are also … ugh. It tries very hard to be a rock and roll kind of place. They have a downstairs area for live music, but I’m not sure what kind of gigs they put up and I’m really not interested. After having tasted the wine, which could have been used to strip paint of walls, I was sure that this is not the place for me.

I agree with Katie, its a great venue and you really feel you are part of the show. Watched Miss Neutron Bomb( ) there tonight and when the gig started to take off, suddenly the whole room was dancing and having a wild time excellent. She is a great singer with a good band(originally from Columbia, very soulful voice, doing some great numbers and rounding off with an excellent Velvet Underground Walk on the Wild Side which really complimented her voice.(Later on I did not think much of the less friendly staff at the Roadtrip bar or the DJs upstairs, who managed to keep even people who wanted to dance from having a good time)

We went here the other week after a work event and although it was a miserable and rainy Monday there were a few other people there and it seemed to be a buzzy place when busy and livelier. We received good and friendly service and the drinks were nice and it’s in a convenient location for Hoxton and Shoreditch and is only a few minutes walk from Old Street tube.

came here for a pre gig drink as it was convenient to the venue we were going to. it was a bit of nothing bar. despite the fact that it had comfy seats, and a pretty spacious outdoor seating area(which would be lovely in warmer weather), there was just nothing that done it for me in here. the music felt like it was trying too hard(although to be fair, it was a quiet night and it could just have been the bar staff playing their own musical preferences which is fair enough) and the drinks were super expensive. i know that’s fairly standard for the area, but i think you need to have something which makes a bar stand out in order for you to want to return, and this bar didn’t have anything for me — not even the convenience of location.

I quite like this place. The staff are really nice and the cocktails are quiet good. They décor is a bit odd but then again, this *is* Shoreditch. So it’s kind of what you’d expect from the area really. There are quite a few comfy couches about and there’s quite a large beer garden in the front. Overall, not a bad place to grab a pint.

They normally have some decent music downstairs, so I will pop down for a look if in the area. Otherwise nothing really special.

Hidden in the basement of the Roadtrip bar on Old Street, The Workshop is a really cute little gig venue. It could hold about 50 people at a squeeze, but when I went here there was about 20 people comfortably perched on the wooden stools. There is something very intimate about gigs at The Workshop due to its snug size. There was a bar down there but it wasn’t open when I was there — I’m guessing there wasn’t enough people to make it worth their while! If you hear about a gig going on at The Workshop, definitely give it a go — I was pleasantly surprised!

This place was good enough. I came here to watch the Superbowl with an American meetup group and I liked it because it reminded me more of a bar rather than a pub. Not that I have anything against pubs. The staff was friendly and the large space was great. The downstairs area is a little claustrophobic because of the low ceilings but you don’t have to go down there if you don’t want. I also like the fact that there were outdoor heaters for their seats outside.

I went to Roadtrip last night for a Superbowl party and thought it was a decent spot. The other reviewers have explained the décor. I will say that the staff were amazing given that there were about 400 Americans Ex Pats crammed in for the big game. I got some fries and they were very fresh and good. The wacky sauce for dipping was an interesting choice in my opinion(I think sticking to ketchup is the way to go) but not a huge deal. I would love to take advantage of the outdoor seating when it is a little warmer. If they play the superbowl next year, I would go back.

If Roadtrip were a colour, it would be beige. Something of a nothing. Whilst it pains me to write up places that are generally quite average because I know few people read them(after all, it’s more about the 4 and 5 star reviews) I feel duty bound to give this bar a write-up because I’m like a taxidermist i.e. dedicated. Old St and the surrounding area is notorious for its cheeky selection of cool bars and clubs. Sadly for me, Roadtrip doesn’t really enter into that mix. Having been invited to a free gig, i thought I’d give it the benefit of the doubt. Sadly though i was bitten like a playful toddler and an aggressive horse. Once you enter into the darker than dark entrance you are given two choices. Either stay upstairs and listen to the good music but fight someone for a place to stand/sit or head downstairs where you will have an equally unpleasant time wrestling for a place to jig, but the tunes are samey and repetitive. The drinks are expensive — You’re looking at 13 nuglets for a double something and something. If you were the Burbs and had been thrown in to the Old st mix this place might be good as a place to judge all the other, much better, venues on Old st, by. All in all, I rather regretted dropping £50 in RoadTrip as by the end of the night I felt I should have just bought a litre of white lightening and gone and hung out with the kids on Tufnell Park. Good value. A 6 drink round was 21 quid. Nice atmosphere. Close to underground.

A relatively new bar situated on a corner on Old Street just past the Holiday Inn Hotel. A great outside seated area with heated lights to keep you warm on these cold winter days. The busy intersection can keep you amused if you are having a drink on your own or just choosing to people watch. The interior consist of a complete mix of styles, a ram skull chandelier, black and white floral ceiling and a selection of different armchairs, stools and chairs. A very relaxed atmosphere great for groups. They have a small but fresh and delicious deli counter where you can have fresh sandwiches and salads made or just order a few random bits! A great place and a nice change to the pretentiousness you do find in many Shoreditch bars and pubs

Roadtrip is a new bar to the Hoxton hood. It is a creation of Paul Daly, the designer and owner behind Zigfrid in Hoxton Square. I love the design and feel of this bar with ample outdoor seating, a plus. Though it’s a great neighborhood pit stop, I wonder if Roadtrip is going to have the following that Zigfrid has. It might be a location thing since the last bar there was always empty. I hope that is not the case as it’s a fresh new bar with style and appeal.
