Richmond Green

I had some time to kill before checking in to my hotel so I had a little wander around and came across Richmond Green.
The name gives it away — it is ‘just’ a green so no frills. There is a little fountain monument, and plenty of trees and benches around the perimeter.
The perfect place to while away a bit of time reading or just people-​watching as it’s wasn’t too busy early on the Sunday afternoon I visited.

When I normally come to Richmond it’s the park I’m heading for, but it was a delight to discover The Green. It’s flat, with a great pedestrian and cycle path, with lawn mowed grass, with benches and trees surrounding it.
It’s away from the high street and you can get to it through the lanes. It was also great to discover all the independent shops from clothes, jewellery and ice cream. Their is also a Pub when you need that cold refreshing drink. You also have Richmond Theatre in front of The Green.
I was blessed to go on a beautiful summers day, so you would see the cyclists, book readers, families picnickers and dog walkers etc.
If you need some solitude, and you can’t be asked to go to Richmond Park, then Richmond Green is the place to be.

Oh you poor souls, this is a little patch of turf stuck betwween a pile of buildings. Its flat and featureless, I feel so sorry for you :)

Great park for a picnic. For all those cycle enthusiasts it’s a great place to get those miles in.

Great place to go when the sun comes out. All the pubs start serving in plastic cups and the green comes alive.

Parking around here is mainly residents only but the available bays are quite expensive.

Richmond Green is a beautiful public space in the middle of Richmond, where you can get a pint from the nearby Cricketers Inn and go and watch the cricket. During the summer months the place is packed with picnickers and sunbathers, looking to get a taste of village life within the boundaries of Greater London.
The green is hidden from the main street and can be found by following a winding side street down to the green. One of the things that you probably should do before sitting on the green is buy a ice-​cream from the fabulous Gelateria Danielle only then can you really appreciate the view.

Voted the best Green in London! Und es ist so wahr. So gruen und so schnuckelig. In England hat jedes Dorf sein Green. Eine gruene Wiese eben umrandet von Hausern, meistens mit einer Kirche und natuerlich einem Pub. Richmond Green ist umrandet von alten Baumen und Gorgeous Georgian Houses.
Im Sommer spielen sie hier Cricket in weissen Pullovern oder faulenzen auf der Wiesse. Bei Kindern und Hunden sehr beliebt. Ein wahrer Augenschmauss!

So relaxing for a walk or a picnic after a hard day’s shopping! Lots of eateries and pubs nearby too! =D

Fantastic summer spot for a nap, sunbathing, watching the girls go by, a game of football or even Volleyball. People picnic, chill out or have a drink and watch the cricket. Hidden from the high street by a series of alleyways, this is a great place to get away from it all without actually spending all your time trying to get to the park.

After an extended walk along Richmond’s delightful riverside, or a busy bout of shopping, you might be ready for a peaceful wander and a sit-​down. Richmond Green has a fair smattering of benches and good space for picnic-​ing on its verdant grounds.
Aside from being a good place to take a break, in the summer you can spectate the cricket here or relish an ice or sorbet from Gelateria Danieli, mere yards away. In all weathers, you can watch locals walk their dogs and gaze longingly at the wonderful aspirational houses (residents include Sir Richard Attenborough).

Richmond Green is a lovely little public space not far from the busy high street of Richmond. On any sunny day you’ll find families pickicking, people reading the paper, etc.
That is, until the cricketers show up. The game’s been played here since 1730, and still sees a lot of local club action.
There are a couple of pubs, a library, and lots of houses around its edge.
