Background: We had taken the first Eurostar from Paris to London, then the Underground to Piccadilly Circus to catch a hop-on, hop-off bus tour. Before we got on the double decker bus, we needed a bite to eat, so one of the tour company guys directed us to Piggy’s around the corner. Such a great tip! Based on how we found Piggy’s, as well as the place itself and who was eating there, my impression is that this is a more authentic place, as opposed to one for tourists. There’s only one little table for two and then a counter to sit at, but the folks behind the counter were super nice. We got a breakfast plate with tea, and a breakfast sandwich on a bagel.(See pic.) Both were delicious! In America I’m used to getting sausage«patties» with these types of meals, but no, even my bagel sandwich had real breakfast sausage, sliced. SOGOOD. So it was a great, hearty start to our day, and a nice debunking of the myth that England has no good food. ;P

I love Piggy’s baked potatoes! They’re not too greasy, not too plain, not too raw, not too overdone — just perfect. The café itself is(almost) perfect. I visit Piggy’s about once a week for either breakfast or lunch. The service is wonderful, and as a regular it’s nice to be recognised and have my favourite orders memorised. I can’t recommend this place enough.

GREAT breakfast. When I moved to London, I was introduced to the delightful world of bacon butties after a lifelong addiction to Sausage McMuffins from McD. Piggy’s offers tons of options and all of them are great. I would always go for a Bacon Buttie with egg and cheese after those long nights out in the surrounding areas. Owners and staff couldn’t be nicer and it’s a great way to support local businesses. Sandwiches and jacket potatoes at lunch are also great, but in true expat fashion, I usually went on the hunt for fish ‘n chips at noontime.

This isn’t the worst place to get lunch if you’re in the area. But i find their sandwiches and baked potato fillings a little uninspiring. I want to like them more, but their just a bit nothingy. However, what this place really excells in is breakfast. If you’re hungover, and you know you need to eat something horrible, then their bacon and egg muffin are perfect. Just the perfect size to stop you feeling hungry, but not so huge that you’ll feel sick. Plus, they’re only £1.80 or so which is even better. That’s the only reason I’d come here. I’m not entirely convinced by the service, but I’ve only ever spent five minutes in here so that’s not a huge issue really. Yum yum yum om nom nom no hangover. That’s all you need to know.
