This was my first visit to the latest Patty & Bun sight and there a a few specials on the menu that I hadn’t seen before. After working my through almost the entire menu before now my decision was practically made before I even sat down! The Patty Melt was fantastic. Basically a pulled pork toastie served with pickles, this was fantastic, especially after the addition of a bit of hot sauce. Sadly the duck nuggets didn’t come up to scratch. Particularly greasy and not exactly packed with flavour. I think I’ll stick to the brisket croquettes next time.

So I can’t take Patty and Bun for lunch or dinner or what they normally do. But for breakfast sandwiches, it was just what I wanted. They do a small breakfast menu of only breakfast sandwiches, usually combining eggs and meat onto perfect, and I mean perfect, bread. Toasted buns that are the exact right amount of bread to meet combination. It’s also a small space, with a little bit of seating inside and outside. It wasn’t crowded at all when we came though, so easy enough to grab a seat. I was a little disappointed by the menu, which had lots of options on it that they don’t do in the morning(that should be clearer spelled out) and then even some of the things they said they did, they didn’t have the ingredients for, so weren’t actually doing that morning. Blarg. However, I love a good breakfast sandwich and they do a damn good breakfast sandwich.

Patty & Bun, that burger chain you find in typical lunch fare places such as near Oxford Street and Liverpool street, have opened up a branch in an Arch next to London Fields. My first impressions were«huh? Why are they opening out here? There’s no offices, shops and the crowds that descend on London Fields tend to do so only in evenings and at weekends». Well, at lunchtime on a Wednesday it actually seemed to be quite busy so I clearly don’t know where to open burger joints. I had the chicken burger having had enough red meat for one week, along with the rosemary fries. The chicken burger was thin on meat and heavy on fat. It wasn’t what I was hoping for. A buttermilk chicken burger, in my opinion, should be thick without too much of the fat it’s fried in making it’s way into the meat. This one failed on both counts. The fries were salty to the extreme and required two glasses of water to eat them. I’ve had patty & bun’s beef burgers before at their other locations and like them even if they are a mess with all the sauce oozing out the other side of the bun when you bite in so I’m willing to give it another shot at some point. I’ll just avoid the chicken in future.
