Patisserie Valerie

I ordered 3 gateaux and honestly I couldn’t find anything negative to say about them!
5 stars for the strawberry, 5 stars for the millefeuille and 4 stars for the chocolate one (only because the other 2 were amazingly better)
If you have a sweet tooth you will not be disappointed!

I adore everything that is made from chocolate– from chocolate bars to fudge. So I’m simply in love with the tasty cakes there. This place is one of my favourite and I can’t wait to try another piece of delicious cake, no matter that the prices are a bit high for me. The service is ok, the interior too. If you go there, try the Pear and caramel mousse cake and also the White chocolate dream gâteau.

Fairly good, I’ve bought their cakes in the past. A new branch has opened up nearby and some people that I know are happy about the news. The only cake that I didn’t like very much was the Tiramisu slice that I had. It was decent, but not worth its price at all. Would have had no problem if only it had tasted better.

I bought some cupcakes today to celebrate a special event. When I peeled back the paper I could feel how hard and dry they were. When I actually bit into it I wondered how old they were. I love cupcakes and these were the driest, oldest cupcakes I have ever purchased. They so disgusting, I couldn’t take more than one bite. The cakes were like old props for a movie and were a terrible disappointment for a special occasion.

Was a great place to stop in and get a few sweet items to take away. Very french, very good. Chocolate croissants were fantastic.

I like Patisserie Valerie because there is always one where and when you need one. This location was perfect for an after dinner craving for some ice cream in the middle of February (I mean, why not?). I have been to many Patisserie Valerie locations and this one in Covent Market is especially charming with its beautiful and tempting window display tucked into the market. I love the mint chocolate chip ice cream and the Napoleons are always to die for!

They have a «tea for two» menu! You get two tea pots, 5 types of finger sandwiches (2 each so each person can try), 2 regular scones, 2 fruit scones, jam, 2 eclairs, 3 other desserts (small cake like things), and of course, the best part, clotted cream. Clotted cream is dreamy stuff. Smear that on a fluffy scone and some jam… heaven. It all comes out on a tiered plate holder. Our least favorite part were the desserts/​sweets, not that they were bad, but we were full by the time we got to them and they weren’t amazing (not worth stuffing an already full stomach). I think the whole thing was around 13GBP a person. You can also pay a few more pounds to add prosecco to it all.
This wasn’t on their normal menu. We saw a separate menu showing this and asked for it. So if you go for tea, ask them for the «tea for two» menu.
note to fellow Americans — british scones are not the same as the scones we normally see (or at least I’ve normally seen). They are not dry crumbly things! They are most and soft. The closest thing I can liken them to are KFC biscuits :)

The desserts are quite good even if there are many better places around! The atmposhere is a little bit akward and you will feel like being in a different and old age.

Go into this wonderful, wonderful old tea-​room (circa 1926), up the creaky old stairs, settle into a table by the windows overlooking Soho streets & luxuriate. As you can tell from the pictures, I like cake. And the cakes here are stupendous, again as you can see from the pictures. Cake and a pot of tea or lovely coffee is £5. This place serves all day breakfast for £7.95 for the full English works and just egg dishes for around £4. They serve croque monsieurs, soups, past, etc. too bur its mostly overpriced. There’s a good deal in the £9 for two courses pre-​theatre dinner. That can be any two courses you choose. The delicious cakes are about £3 a slice, the coffee selection is great and the atmosphere is wonderful.

I don’t like to go to chains on a weekend. There are so many new and individual places to visit in London it just seems like a waste. But my friend and I were wondering around looking for a proper tea and found Valerie instead.
Not the whole shebang of layers of tea cakes and scones (though that was an option)
just two pots of earl grey and two mounding strawberry tarts.

They were busy on a Sunday afternoon but I don’t think I should need to flail my arms around to get someone’s attention to take our order. oh well. The tarts alone are worth the wait. Let alone the cakes… the cakesdroooooool

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside (or inside) but the pastries were surprisingly delish and reasonably priced. My son enjoyed his hot chocolate and I enjoyed my abbreviated British tea experience. I never really have been a scone person (they are usually soooo dry and crumbly to me, who likes that?) but the ones served with my tea were very good here. I was sad they did not have clotted cream to go with them as I had been looking forward to trying this mysterious garnish (never seen it stateside with scones before) but apparently on Friday they are out for the week (at least that’s what the server said). Also really good was the Mille Feuille. Again, not something I usually order because all the ones I have had in the past are pretty tasteless and boring but because another Unilocaled recommended it, I tried it, and can concur, it was pretty darn good. This place definitely delivered for a quick, tasty snack where I didn’t get fleeced for all my pounds and left with boring, tasteless food (my experience at most other establishments in London during my short trip).

I really like the atmosphere here.
The coffee is fantastic! Their cappuccino can be enjoyed with no added sugar.
I had heir classic Club Sandwich that came with fries and a salad: more than I could finish.
It got quite busy while we were there, but it was never hard to get the attention of a server.
Decent prices for London and a great location!

This place is full of sugar crack. The cupcakes, the fresh cream fruit tarts, the disgustingly delicious cakes. It’s like diabetes central. But my god, is it addictive.
I don’t know who the fuck this little old Belgian lady Valerie is, or if she had ginger hair, if she put her house up for sale to move to London way back in the 1800s, or if she ever had a good lawyer. But like the song goes, if she hadn’t been to jail — she should have been, because this delicious place should be illegal.

Wonderland of pastries and cakes. Great selection for breakfast and very reasonable. Great find.

There are several locations of this patisserie, but this one is my favourite (I’ve been going for 12+ years). I used to live walking distance and would go at the week-​end for their delicious Italian coffee, light breakfast and GORGEOUS pastry selection. I’d sit upstairs in the corner looking out onto the street (good for people-​watching), enjoy my breakfast, read, and was left alone to my thoughts (the staff are gracious in this regard). There is something very cosy about this place, je né sais quoi, in the midst of people buzzing about. And of course, the food is quite nice (to your palate and wallet). Have I mentioned the pastries (see: Mille Feuille)?

I went there without knowing this was a very popular place in London. I had no expectation and I went there to take a real English afternoon tea. I order a tea and I ask if they have, bu any chance, anything gluten free. Answer was: Yes! They have a brownie GF! I was delighted!
I will go back for sure!

Have I seriously never reviewed Valerie?! Let’s be honest. If I could fill a tub up full of Valerie’s custard and dive in and rub it all over my body… well, that would be a waste, I’d rather eat it. But point is, their baked goods are fantastic.
I feel like I’ve told this story before. Did I never review Valerie? Really? Anyway, I wanted a Mille Feuille, and being a French Canadian, know how to say it right. But I guess asking for one in English with the French pronounciation confused the crap out of the cashier, so I had to repeat it. She was like, «oh yes yes yes, mille feuille.» So I asked what they call it in English (in Montréal, they also go by «Napoleon»). She then scrunches up her face and spits out in the most disgusted way, «Vanilla Slice», like it made her mouth dirty to say it. That’s how real this place is.
Anyway. Their Mille Feuilles are hands down the best. Everything else is good too, truffles, cakes, gelato. I’ve even had their toasted bagel and cheese sandwhiches. Yum.
Get this. A take-​away scone is 80p. Yeah, I know, it’s flour and water, but Euphorium sells their takeaway scones for £1.80. On upper st we came across some non-​assuming café that taxed me for £2.60. So an 80p scone, just the right size, and texture… yes.
You what else I love about Valerie? The logo. That’s right, you’re looking upskirt at a frilly underwear-​wearing shapely young lady.

A little disappointed this time around. I got one of their sandwiches and it was so unbelievably dry. Although I must admit the salad was dosed in dressing which was pretty good. My friends wanted a tart to go but when we went to the window to take a peek at the pastries, we noticed flies all over some of the pastries and that totally scared us away. Not too sure about the pastries they serve…

I’ve had a breakfast here before and that was good, this time I had the Thai Vegetable soup… ’twas yummy and came with some bread!
p.s the waiter was just so sweet! i dropped my fork on the floor… twice…hahaha…and he was adorable and when i asked what cakes they had he personally took me to the window and told me each and every single one! and then when i said ‘actually im ok for a cake’ he wasn’t angry at me!

Immer wenn ich in London bin, führt mich mein erster Weg zu Patisserie Valerie. Ein richtiges english breakfast mit gegrillten Tomaten und schöner kann ein Tag nicht starten oder ein Fruitscone mit französischer Butter am Nachmittag. Egal was ich hier bisher genossen habe, soweit ich mich erinner war es immer gut. Ich mag auch den Trubel der dauernd herrscht. Witzig sind auch die Geschäftstermine die am Nebentisch inkl. Laptop abgehalten werden! Sehr empfehlenswert.

An edible Soho institution throughout the last century, this patisserie oozes the charm and tradition of a French tea room in the heart of Paris.
The staff always look rushed of their feet, and they were certainly on call when I managed to devour a moist multi layered croque monsieur on a bed of salad with a vinegar dressing. That was only for starters, as I tucked into a spongy éclair I really could not finish after several attempts. Modestly priced, a peaen to pastries in London.
It’s a great spot for a business tête à tête, above this Soho branch is a separate first floor café — between 7am and 12 noon every day the upstairs room is reserved for pre-​booked breakfast meetings.

Les desserts sont assez bons, mais pas géniaux.
Le service laisse à désirer, malheureusement (ça dépend des jours).
Le décor est assez sympa, et vu qu’ils restent ouverts jusqu’à 11 heures du soir, c’est une assez bonne manière de finir une sortie en beauté (relative).
