Odeon

In the past few years, I have been attending film première events at this Odeon cinema, which is located at the far end corner of Leicester Square, next to the Hampshire Hotel, and right next door to a betting shop.
It’s an okay cinema, nothing too spectacular. Personally, I’d rather go to the Soho Curzon cinema.

For the price i don’t feel this cinema is value for money.
There is barely any leg room, its lucky i’m quite short. You can’t pass people once they are seated, so good luck getting to the bathroom half way through the movie.
The popcorn was a little stale, and the cinema wasn’t particularly clean.
I definitely would not go back.

It’s an Odeon in Central London. ’nuff said!

I really struggle with the cinema in London. This is for a number of reasons; where I’m from £16 gets you and your family in to see a film and a bag of sweets, not just one person, leg room is bizarrely at a premium and whilst I’m not expecting cutting edge customer service at a cinema, the minimum of a smile or even just recognizing that I, like them, am a human being and can converse outside of monotone would be nice.
Odeon unfortunately has all of the above in abundance. I was greeted at the ticket stand to be told that I had to go to a different ticket stand as this one wasn’t working… just before the employee got back to reading their book. Score 1 for employee engagement I guess. When I got my tickets (wordlessly handed over) and we made our way to the seats which were actually relatively decent (hence the two as opposed to one star). The final frustration for me though came when I went to get our snacks and after «can I help you?» there followed 90 seconds of service without any words exchanged (not even saying how much the price of the food was, which was also extortionate but you expect that from a cinema).
All in all, if it hadn’t been Orange Wednesday then I would have really resented paying the full price for this cinema. Staff are not necessarily unhelpful but very dismissive, and I genuinely can’t understand why they keep conversation to a minimum. Decent seats though.

I may have just slated the other Odeon cinema in the Leicester square… but I quite like this one.
It is still pricey (£16 each) but the seats are comfy, with more leg room that the other, larger Odeon. The seats are also well set up so even if a really tall person sits in front of you… you can easily see over their head. They have a good space upstairs with photos of all the famous film stars covering the walls… if you arrive early, it’s fun to have a look.
This cinema is also pretty good for events. In front of the screen is a stage, so you can easily give announcements before the film. I used to work for Pokémon UK, so had the pleasure of introducing life sized Pikachu and Darkrai to a cinema full of enthusiastic children here. You would not believe how excited people get when faced with a life-​sized Pikachu in Leicester square… it was hilarious.

there isnt much i can say about this place without being nasty, its small, (50 seater screens)
it cost about a tenner and non of the staff want to work in there.
if you want to pay loads of money for a small screen then go on to Vue west end at least there a member of staff doesnt sit in the screen with you!

The film starts late, about 20 minutes after scheduled. If you like trailers, I guess that’s fine.
After queing for tickets for 5 minutes, then wanting to buy a drink, we were informed we’d have to queue up again in the ticket queue to pay for it — absurd — drink abandoned.
Screen 1, while a reasonable size, isn’t great quality. The sound is too loud and certainly isn’t Dolby.
The ‘premium’ seats are, well, hardly premium. You have the opportunity to become a close acquaintance of the stranger next to you. I think premium really means with drink holder.
Why pay £16 per seat for this experience?
Find another cinema.

Very small and cramped rooms present really bad value for money.

We saw ‘W’ here and whilst the screen was huge compared to the ones we are used to and yes, it is in Leicester Square, it is ridiculously overpriced. And I didn’t find the seats as comfy as our local Cineworld, despite paying for Premier Seats.

I went here for the first time last night. The Odeon Mezzanine is next door to the main Odeon cinema in Leicester Square, and contains about 5 small cinema screens, each with around 50 or 60 seats.
Although the cinema screening rooms are small, the seating plan was well designed so that even though I was on the front row at the side I had a good view of the screen.
The film and trailers only started about 15 mins after the schedulted start — which isn’t unusual for large cinema chains, but I can’t complain as I’m often late turning up.
Prices are typical at £9.50 for an adult (Monday to Friday evenings).

The Odeon West End is a very hit and miss cinema. It is small and it can get very crowded inside, so it’s best to buy your ticket and immediately head towards your screen to avoid a possible crush.
I’ve only been here twice, the first time was good and I had no problems whatsoever with the quality of the screening or any of the other patrons. The second time however was different and I haven’t been back since.
I went there to see a film première which was being held as part of the London Film Festival. Some of the stars were there as well as some other famous faces. The problems started during the second reel of the movie. When it started the bottom half of the picture was at the top of the screen and the top half was at the bottom. It stayed this way for around a minute until people started booing loudly, at which point it was fixed. The problem continued throughout every change of reel and it completely ruined my enjoyment of the film.
If they can’t get it right during a LFF première, and if mistakes such as this can go unspotted until the crowd get rowdy, what must it be like during regular screenings? Maybe it was just that one screening, maybe the person responsible was sacked, but it made me so annoyed that I’ve never been back and I never will.
