Whenever I’m making a trip to particular office in London, I always look forward to having Nusa Kitchen soup for lunch. Knowing that I can get delicious and nutritious soup really brightens my day. Yesterday, every single one of their veggie options was also vegan. Good work Nusa! So there were at least three to choose from. I went for something that I cannot remember the name of(I’d been up since 5am so detail was beyond me at that point), but it was a Malaysian type soup, with coconut and spicy flavours, and fine noodles. You are always offered the option to sample the soups, which is great if you’re not sure, or never tried a particular soup before. You can choose between rice or bread with your soup. The server on that day offered me bread — presumably to suit the soup, as rice AND noodles probably isn’t the best combo for a soup, but when I declined(I don’t eat bread), she said I could have a piece of fruit instead of the bread. How nice! I chose a banana, and along with a fresh juice(carrot, apple and ginger), that made an excellent healthy afternoon snack. They sell other healthy snacks too, although the protein energy bar made from crickets is a step too far I think. I love them for selling the Chi chocolate coconut water, which is one of my favourite things ever, and another nice little treat to make my London days a bit more of a pleasure.

So I never really liked soup until I stumbled across Nusa Kitchen. But I have now been converted. Nusa is by far The BEST place for soup in the city. If you get here anytime after 12.15pm beware there will be a long queue to get your soup. They change the menu every week and let you taste their awesome flavours before you decide what to go for. Also u might think soup — u aren’t gonna fill up — not true they portions are sizeable enough and is plenty for lunch! I come here at least once a week and have never been let down.

I just discovered Nusa hidden in an alley near my office last week, and I’ve gone here almost every day since. I’ve had four different soups and they were all delicious. There is a line at lunch rush, but they’re quick and it goes pretty fast. You pick your soup(only one large size, or jumbo size it for an extra couple quid) and they ask if you want bread or rice to go with it(depending on what they’d recommend for that soup) and I always say yes, because why not. I also like the snacks they offer, especially the chocolate covered dried edemame. I did try the veggie spring roll salad one day, and that was a mistake. Gross. My advice, stick to the soups, that’s what they do super well. So the cause for not five stars is the salads and the fact that you can’t get a smaller size, which would be nice for some of the super filling creamy soups. But overall I’m a fan and it’s my new lunch spot!

I visit frequently from NYC for work and I have been meh about a lot of the quick eats lunch food in downtown London. It’s fine but I’m not blown away. But the Nusa soup was a game changer. This is the kind of soup you would consider buying 2 portions of not because you are hungry(the portions are good) but because it tastes so good you want to eat a second serving. Have the chicken chili. It’s the perfect amount of heat and spice.

The lamb basil soup is my favorite soup here. It is quite substantial despite it being soup. They will ask if you want rice and bread with your soup so it can be a pretty filling meal. I tried the vegetarian jambalaya once and it was not as good — sort of on the tangy side. Their menu changes so you can’t get the same thing every time. The line goes out the door quite frequently but it also moves pretty fast. Most people are inside trying soup so if you know what you want, it is easy to bypass the line once you get inside. They do have tall tables but only 2 or 3 and high chairs. I have been able to eat inside once, but most of the time i get it to go since there are so many people inside. I miss this place so much! spicy lamb basil on a cold winter day hits the spot

My close friends know that I LOOOOVE soup and have a deep love for SF Soup Co back in the States. Nusa really has some awesome flavored soups and all very diverse. I had the indonesian chicken soup, which admittedly was heavier than most, but it was just the right amount of spice as well as other greatly balanced flavors. The cool thing is also that they let you try all diff flavors before you buy… rare for a lot of places. I cant wait to go back and try the five other flavors!

What’s a soup? Isn’t it that liquid appetiser that you get in restaurants as a first course … something that you need to have in winter when you catch a cold. But can you really have it for lunch ? Apparently, you can. At Nusa you get first class soups for lunch … its impressive quality and variety has, within a short period of a few quarters, turned it into one of the most popular lunch places in the Bank-Liverpool Street area. For between 4 and 5 pounds, you get a large container of healthy soup, with a little bit of rice and an extra piece of bread. If you don’t want the bread, you can get an apple or a banana instead. Excellent value for money. Also there are concoctions from every part of the world. From african to indonesian … from creole cuisine to bolivian … the variety is outstanding. They change the menu every week … prompting me to come back very often. Except for one occasion when i hated the moroccan soup i bought, the experience has always been pleasant. On the whole, probably the most balanced lunch-place in the city.
