History

Established in 2013.

Newtons’ transformation has seen it change hands from one family to the next as brothers Toby and Ben Childs take the restaurant helm and combine the traditional with the modern: «We’re passionate about good food, good service and quality drinks. We really value the local community and can’t wait to get stuck in and properly become an integral part of Abbeville Road!»

ith enthusiasm by the bucket load, the new family in town have given the food menu a complete overhaul and the cocktail menu has been given a new lease of life, with an extensive and enticing classic cocktail list featuring alongside the wine list.

Warm, comfortable bar with couches abound to lounge your Saturdays (and/​or Sundays) around. The drink list will leave you pensive, and not all that expensive, but with the lagers and ales it’s not all that extensive.
Joking aside, it’s a nice bar, and I would likely come back for food, but I do wish they’d stock some choice options for beer. Note to bar manager: Duvel is not a «craft beer».

Although a little noisy, as the main room is quite small and echoey, the food is fair to good, occasionally very good. We particularly enjoyed the mussels in a wine and cream sauce. Attentive and friendly staff.

I’d certainly concur with other reviewers — neat and tidy, friendly and efficient staff and inoffensive reasonably good bistro food at roughly speaking the prices you’d expect to pay. Chez Bruce it is not. Popular with families at the weekend; this can mean you’re surrounded by squalling, bored sprogs at Sunday lunch. A good place to take your mum, if she’s visiting.

This place used to be a local posh eatery for me, and I do have a real soft spot for it.
With crisp white table linen, great service and fairly good food, and also reasonably priced and bang in the middle of the Abbeville road, it’s a good meal out however you look at it.
That’s right. Fairly good food. It’s not amazing. The burger is better at the abbeville pub, and the steak’s not really worth paying out for. Good fish and chips, though, but when you’ve so much choice, it could probably up it’s game a bit.
