In the end, the food at Newman Arms is an interesting one for me, is it better than your everyday pubs? Totally, but is it anywhere near the level of a top gastropub? Places like the Smokehouse and Anchor & Hope are a mile ahead right now. I failed to understand why most of the press and bloggers are rating it so highly, is it because of the unique concept? For me, just that alone isn’t enough if the cooking failed to deliver. I hope it was a one off hiccup as in terms of the ingredients, it was of a really high standard, just the execution was not quite right on the night.

A small pub with an upstairs dining room tucked into a side street near Goodge Street. It looks and feels as if it has always been there(and probably has). All dark wood fittings and low ceilings. The stairs down to the gents are actually stone. A nice amount of beers on tap and the nuts are a bargain! Friendly staff make it an enjoyable experience. We were heading to a pop up dinner there and needed to wait for our sitting. The normal menu specialises in Cornish sourced ingredients and we were told that the Sunday roasts are very good, I’ll have to come back for a proper meal.
