If you are in need of a quick cheap noodle fix(and if you are ever hungry after midnight!), head to the New Welcome Noodle House on Lee High Road in Lewisham. I’m not sure why the description says Blackheath as this quick stop in is in the heart of Lewisham. I highly recommend the Aromatic Duck as a starter before diving into one of their noodle dishes. It is not fancy and has the Chinese take away tacky décor so I wouldn’t recommend it for a first, second or even hundredth date but it has good, cheap, easy chinese and is open late. The staff are very nice. One older man was super quiet until I tried to bust out some mandarin on him and then he became Mr. Chatty… super nice and wanted to educate me on Chinese culture in London. I loved it! While there, why not try the Tsingtao Beer… also very nice and comes in a fancy logo glass… see photos. Overall, I wouldn’t make a special trip to Lewisham to check this out but if you are ever in the hood or on your way home late from work(pub), dinner(pub) or the gym(pub)…and need a bite… try it out!!!

I’ve been coming to this Noodle bar since 2000. Tucked up the road from Lewisham’s main shopping quary, the number 261 bus stops right outside, or there’s restricted parking on the main road. The seating is in a bar style: long tables with around 16 chairs each are against both sides of the restaurant. It’s usually pretty quiet in there, as people tend to come in alone or as a couple to relax and have a quick, cheap, tasty meal. I thoroughly recommend number 6(if I recall correctly on the menu); grilled pork dumplings. They are the BESTEVER. Succulent and juicy — if I wasn’t on a health kick I’d eat these every day. The Won-Ton noodle soup is also pretty good(not as good as central London restaurant’s versions though) as long as you add some soy sauce to it. I tend to order the chicken in oyster sauce with boiled rice and no veg: and the staff are very nice sorting out my not straight forward request. Again, it’s lovely nosh but I’d recommend you eat it fast as the sauce tends to curd up once it loses heat, which isn’t very appetising to look at. Unfortunately I think ‘value’ cola or lemonade is served as it NEVER tastes good, yet the charge is around £1.10 a pop for the stuff. That’s quite a big let down. Also, only cash is accepted. In this day and age, I think that’s pretty poor and the noodle bar would get a lot more custom if debit/credit card payments were embraced.
