New Look

It’s very important to know exactly where to go when a surprise night out in the city’s sprung on you and you’re wearing that old, holey Primark get up that makes you look a bit like a potato in nightwear. TO THE SHOPS. But if you only have time for one shop (allowing for optimum cocktail drinking time), which would you choose?
New Look is one of the few shops I know I can go to and find something I like in. The Moorgate/​London Wall store is just the right size — it feels spacious and not at all cramped, with plenty of choice — but without being so big you’d struggle to actually choose something.
I also find the store to be relatively quiet in the evenings after work, making it a much nicer and quicker experience whether you’re looking for something specific or just having a casual browse. The staff are also super lovely — last time I visited, I was complimented on my hair and the time before that I had a great chat with the sales assistant about unicorns and Secret Santa. I approve.

New Look was my 20 minute layover between commuting (its right outside Moorgate Station, steps from the back entrance) and a massage at Blue Cow Yoga (DO IT). While there wasn’t much to entertain me in a non-​food, non-​drink, non-​bankerboy way in this area of The City… New Look was positioned perfectly.
Also, I like to play a game. I’ve played this since I was small and was in church (bored) and would try to assemble imaginary outfits for myself based only on the parishoners. Not an easy task in late 80’s, Northern MIchigan Americanaland… but it’s a challenge I’ve now transferred to «cheapie» stores. I always think «I can find an outfit that works here,» — and I did.
To be honest, it wasn’t as hard as it first would appear. The first floor is frankly full of trash and «casual wear» which should be avoided for the most part if you care about your appearance. The basement is where its at. There are some very cute dresses and non-​NewLook brands to peruse, and I scored a really lovely black sweater and black pants to round out a few outfits and refresh some old staples. The prices are fair (I wouldn’t say «super cheap» — but for London, it pretty much is. As much as I’d like to support indie designers in the ‘Ditch, sometimes you just need a black sweater for under 30 quid and call it a day.
Sales staff ignored everyone (near closing time) but the gal that checked me out was sweet. Don’t know if I’d go as far to say that if I needed something in a different size or something that they’d be «helpful» — but good enough, surely.
My tips for shopping at any store that caters to a «younger» crowd (oh my god, am I old? I’m old):
1. Arm yourself with self-​esteem and realize that if you are over the age of 18, you’ll prob have to go up a size or 4. Seriously, don’t take it personally… and really, don’t even bother trying on any pants with a definite waistline, unless you plan on crying your way home with a Big Mac and Ben ‘n Jerrys. For real. It’s just how it is, so be prepared!
2. Use your imagination to pair some of their: ahem: racier items with some classic items you might already have… for example, a hot pink lace cami is a little garish on its own, but cover it with your own (grown up) blazer, and its hot. Be creative!
*also, it’s a much calmer and less chaotic alternative to H&M, with pretty good accessories (scored a coral scarf) and some good 2-​time shoes (meaning they’ll fall apart after two times, but if you need some neon stacked heels… how often are you really getting out in those things? Twice.)
Done and done, add it to the rotation if you are in the area.

Loved the latest selection. Bought myself a jacket at a really good price. I can’t wait for the next weekend to come so I can come again.

I’m usually bored easily when I shop at New Look locally, as the quality of clothing is only fit for casual wear, but this one is so big and there’s a much better selection of clothes. I found a funky chunky cardigan. I grumbled to myself, as I was expecting the price tag to be around the £40something mark that the likes of Oasis and Warehouse are audacious enough to mark theirs up to — £19.99 — bargain!
It’s a good feeling to get a bargain in the City… especially with Xmas around the corner. Me happy!

I am impressed by the large choice of accessories and shoes. The quality is not excellent but the price is so cheap. The clothes are quite nice and cheap too. The only disadvantage is the low quality but that is fine if you like change your shoes or accessories often.

I think the Moorgate store of New Look is excellent. Look at New Look in 2004, it was shocking, all terrible quality. The recent items are great, like someone said, you can get a real bargain in there, they only introduced the leather shoes in the past couple of years. Underwear is fab too! I use the store for work clothes, avoid shirts, handbags/​purses and jewellery, but in general its great, and far less costly than my normal favourite shop Oasis. Fab for short term fashion items that you are going to wear a lot at one time. You get the odd awful item, but the prices are similar to Primark and there is such a difference in quality.
I think the staff are a little unhelpful in the Moorgate store, but overall its really good, a nice modern layout, and they have the most lines I have ever seen in a branch. Overall, much improved, I would have never gone in a New Look a couple of years ago, now in my lunch hour I’m always in there!

As you enter you are hit by the abundance of stock! Clothing everywhere!
I always head straight downstairs; I find the clothing upstairs to be casual and quite flimsy — but probably good for summer stuff.
Downstairs you have the whole selection of clothing for work — business skirts, jacket and shirts. Large selection of footwear — all colours shapes and heights! Dresses, daywear and nightwear. I most recently bought a lovely black Mac with a feminine belt and buttons for £30! I was very impressed!
Have a browse you might be surprised!!!

New look tends to have some pretty good stuff and some very bad stuff. It is relatively cheap and so are the clothes, but if you rummage hard enough you will definitely be able to find something worth your while. Best in store is the extensive and very affordable selection of shoes. If you need some urgent party shoes, this will always be a good place to venture. Annoyingly enough however, for some silly reason New Look has decided that fluorescent, neon green is the way to go for the colour of their shoe shelving units which is really just blinding and makes it harder to properly choose a pair of shoes. It also occasionally collaborates with British designers such as Giles Deacon which can be quite exciting.
This particular New Look is a huge store, located on 3 floors. It is located in a rather strange area, namely in the middle of the City, right next to the financial centre of London, but I guess even City women enjoy a bit of cheap shopping once in a while!
So if you are ever in the area, pop in and have look, but don’t forget some sunnies to protect yourself from the outrageous neon green.

I am a big fan of new look, the clothes are stylish yet reasonably priced.
This particular store is ideally located next to Moorgate station and is very spacious with three floors (2 womens, 1 mens) however it gets very busy esp at lunchtimes and the staff are a little slow then.
The big downside is the helpfulness of the staff, on several occassions my colleagues and I have asked if they’ve had various things in stock which they go to look for, never to return. I was also kept waiting ten mins the other day while one sales assistant stood behind the counter marking some vouchers even though it was extremely busy.

I’m not really the right target audience for New Look, not being a teenager, or a fan of cheap disposable fashion.
However i’ve been bowled over by the limited edition line, i’ve brought a beautiful dark pink ruffle shirt (as featured in Grazia) for £30, and each time I wear it I am asked if its Marni/​Valentino etc
I do like the shoes also — I brought a pair of black patent wedges that are more comfortable than the identical pair of wedges I brought (for £100 more!) at LK Bennett.
Hint — buy from the website. Its superb and the userability, layout and functionality is very very good (M&S please take notes!)

This is one of the best New Look stores. Firstly, it’s huge, with 2 floors for women and 1 for men. They have all the usual clothes, plus size, maternity, tall and underwear ranges, makeup, gifts, belts, jewellery and a large shoe department. The queues can be very large, especially at lunchtime, but the staff are usually helpful and efficient.
The clothes are all reasonably priced and affordable — the shoes are also a bargain — you can get leather high heels for around £30.

This has 3 floors — two for ladies one for men. Its layout is really modern and looks great. Its such a big store it has great stock variety and you will always find a bargain in there. They stock many trendy clothes and they are all affordable.

New Look is a great fashion store for women, girls and now men as well. With affordable prices, fashionable shoes for £20 and accesories that are catwalk inspired its a must have stop shop on any high st shopping expedition. I recently visited the moorgate branch and have to say I was slightly dissapointed. The shoe selection was great with a good sale and wide choice as was the accessories selection. The clothig however was quite drab and didnt do the store justice. There is a wide range of casual wear, few dresses and i found the clothing to be new looks basics rather than fashion inspired pieces.

When I first moved to London I loved New Look because they stocked sandals in my size, but apart from that the clothes were pretty cheap and basic. Years on, they’ve improved things completely now it’s a bargain shoppers paradise! Yes, you can find the odd item which borders on cheap and nasty, but mostly, the clothes are well fitted, and great value. Their tshirts and jeans are great staples, they have excellent coats and jackets, and you can find the odd gold fashion find. Unlike Primark, where the clothes look like they’ll fall apart in the wash (and don’t get me started on the shoes) New Look keep it above trashy, and most of all, their shoe range is fantastic these days! And they still have my size! Their Moorgate store is my favourite, because it’s so big, stylish, clean and inviting. NB you can now shop online too which is even more good news.

From the Outside, it stands out form all the city buildings because of the colours from inside the store that reminds me of disco dance floors. Probably the trendiest looking New Look I have been into. Apart from the nice and inviting layout of the store, I love going to this Newlook because it is more quiet than the Flagship store in Marble Arch. The way the everything is displayed makes it easy to find things and the assistant are not too busy to help you, which helps. NewLook are of course best for quality, trendy and funky fashion for Man, women and kids. They are one of the best high street retailers at the moment and they are just getting better with their fashion collections every time.
